NEW YORK (AP) - February 4, 2010 -- A former New York City counterterrorism detective who says he was unfairly fired as a result of a failed drug test he blamed on his wife's marijuana-spiked meatballs has lost a court bid to get his job back.
A state appeals court upheld Anthony Chiofalo's (chuh-FAH'-loh's) dismissal Thursday. The 22-year veteran was suspended in 2005 after failing a random drug test and was fired in 2007.
Police department lawyer Edward Hart says there was more marijuana in Chiofalo's system than the meatballs could explain.

Bozeman, Montana Police Officer Mark Ziegler responded to a shoplifting call at the local IGA the evening of January 29. On his arrival he learned that a man had filled his pockets with food, pencils, and maybe things for his kids.
Ziegler arrested the man, wrote him a ticket for theft, then released him after asking why he had been stealing. He learned that the 32-year-old unemployed father was desperate to feed his family. Ziegler asked for the mans phone number and told him, Give me 15 minutes.
The officer then ran to Walmart, bought a few dozen frozen pizzas at his own expense and delivered them to the mans house. |

On Thursday, state Sen. Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a press conference to tout legislation that would make it a crime to carry a gun while intoxicated -- CWI instead of DWI -- regardless of your proximity to any sort of tree. Under the proposed law, possession of a weapon by anyone with a blood alcohol higher than .08 would be a class A misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail and a $10,000 fine. |

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - February 4, 2010 -- A Tennessee sheriff's deputy arrested on a drunken driving charge wound up in a dog house before he was taken to the big house.
The Kingsport Times-News reported the details of a Tennessee Highway Patrol arrest report, which said 47-year-old Samuel Monroe Bledsoe was kicking the windows of a trooper's cruiser on his way to a hospital for a blood test.
The report says Bledsoe was then locked inside the cruiser's K-9 cage for his safety.

On Wednesday, Delegate David Walker, D-Clay, introduced at WVCDL's request House Bill 4235, which eliminates the requirement of a license to carry a concealed weapon. HB 4235 also partially strengthens preemption, cleans up confusing and contradictory hunting laws regulating handguns, restores firearm rights to individuals who have received a pardon, expungement, or certain forms of relief from disabilities for a disqualifying crime, and maintains optional concealed weapon licenses for West Virginians to be able to carry in other states via reciprocity. |

In light UK firing Michael Mitchell last April after police found a firearm in his car, I feel UK is infringing on the rights of the individual as well as the rest of its students and faculty.
The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed to citizens of the United States by the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights. If someone on campus has their First Amendment right to freedom of speech infringed upon, there is a raucous uproar over the issue. However, when the Second Amendment is taken from us, some people tend to overlook the issue. |

Patricia Stonekings life path seems to have taken a natural flow.
The Bonner Springs resident naturally got involved with firearms through her family of hunting enthusiasts; she naturally found a role as activist for firearms that led her to lobby the Kansas government to change laws; and she naturally made a career out of educating people about proper firearm use.
Each milestone has led her to where she is today the first woman to be elected president of the Kansas State Rifle Association and the first president to hold the position for three consecutive years. |

Spring on the streets of Washington is shaping up to be, well, loud. On March 20, anti-war protesters will mass to demand that all U.S. troops be withdrawn from Iraq, Afghanistan and, now, Haiti. On April 15, the Tax Day Tea Party will assemble to protest big government. Four days later, the Second Amendment March will hit the streets to advocate the right to keep and bear arms. Advertisement
In between, there will be the March 27-April 11 National Cherry Blossom Festival, which will celebrate puffy, pink blooms. |

What does it reveal about an organizations philosophical extremes when it publicly slams a political figure the group embraced only months before, giving that politician a dismally failing grade?
Ask that question of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, which days ago announced that it was giving President Barack Obamaa man who is on record in support of bans on semiautomatic sport-utility rifles and even licensed concealed-carry by law-abiding citizens who have passed background checksan F because he has yet to implement even one item on its extremist political agenda. |

Yes, you already know the answer, or at least we all hope you do. The best concealed weapon you could possibly carry into any situation sits squarely on top of your neck, between your ears, just millimeters below your scalp.Your brain, your mind, your gray matter. Capable of something like 100 trillion calculations per second, yet can leave you frozen, unable to react when faced with an event you have no experience with. Bravado abounds when we discuss what we would do in a given situation, yet very few of us as gun owners have been or will ever be forced to make the split second decision that determines if we or someone we are facing down lives or dies. And most of us hope we never do. |

The National Rifle Association was on the outside looking in when the Supreme Court handed gun rights activists a landmark victory in 2008.
After the court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to gun ownership and that the District's handgun ban was unconstitutional, it was an upstart band of libertarian lawyers that celebrated on the marble steps and received the glory for the breakthrough decision.
The NRA, the nation's premier and most powerful gun rights group, has worked hard not to be in that position again. And because of an unusual intervention recently by the justices, its attorney will be in the mix when the court considers the next big guns case next month. |

A few weeks into her first term in Congress, Michele Bachmann stood around a radio booth as a news reporter described her as an evangelical Christian who had the potential to be "very outspoken" on social issues.
Bachmann approached moments later to inform him, "I'm also a tax attorney."
As the Minnesota Republican rises to prominence in the national Tea Party that meets this weekend in Nashville, the two sides of Bachmann's political persona have been fused into a mirror image of the newly charged conservative reaction against government spending and much of the rest of President Obama's domestic agenda. |

Lawmakers in firearm-friendly Texas are embroiled in a debate over how to make the state Capitol safer: get rid of guns or encourage even more.
The discussion comes after a man last month fired several shots on the steps of the towering Capitol in Austin. State troopers tackled him and no one was wounded, but the incident spotlighted a predicament for lawmakers in a state where carrying handguns is not only legal but largely cherished.
Lawmakers, some of whom regularly show up for work armed, have to sort through an array of safety options. They range from prohibiting guns in the Capitol, making everyone who steps into the building go through a metal detector, to exempting those who have a license to carry a concealed weapon. |

The Washington-based Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence group is working to urge Starbucks to prohibit customers from carrying guns in all California Starbucks.
Carrying a concealed weapons in California requires a special permit, but it is legal to openly carry an unloaded handgun and ammunition with some exceptions around schools. That is exactly what some pro-gun advocates are doing here in the Bay Area.
The push on Starbucks comes in response to those gatherings. Some are calling them "brazen displays of handguns by gun enthusiasts at several California stores, which have frightened some customers and alarmed law enforcement officials," according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. |

Marie Antoinette's alleged answer of "let them eat cake" to the question of how to feed starving peasants during the French Revolution may have sped her journey to the guillotine. But that was most probably due to the fact that there was no cake to eat.
Starbucks on the other hand is open for business and serving gun owners without discrimination, unlike some other commercial outfits like Peet's Coffee & Tea. . . .
So if you are a gun owner, the next time you need a cup a joe, drink at Starbucks. . . . And as you saddle up to the cash register to get that latte, just look that barista in the eye and nicely say: "Thanks . . . and thanks for supporting the Second Amendment too."
The wink is optional ;)

Looking around on his Hyves-page (Hyves is a social networking website similar to FaceBook) we found the following lovely photos in the family album:
As you can see, theres a picture of the Kaaba the cube-shaped building in Mecca, Saudi Arabia towards Muslims pray when performing the traditional prayer behind a boy who is pointing two guns at his own head. Thats bad, but what makes this even worse, assuming that the guns Muhamed holds in his hands are real, is that its illegal to bear arms in the Netherlands. |

The Barre Auditorium was a sea of camo and rifle bags Saturday as an estimated 2,400 people from across the region poured into the 2010 Central Vermont Gun Show to buy, sell and trade everything from a $2,495 Civil War rifle to feather jewelry and organic oatmeal.
An estimated 1,100 are expected to attend the show today.
"It's been pretty steady," said John Simanskas, who has organized the show for 28 years. He said the economic slowdown hasn't affected the business, adding, "I heard gun shows are really booming this year."

The hand-wringers at the Brady Campaign must have figured out what the rest of us have known for quite some time. Having been rendered all but entirely irrelevant, at least for the time being, the group is resorting to weird publicity stunts, in a vain attempt to again be taken seriously by its former not-so-secret admirers in the national anti-gun news media.
Last month, the group gave President Obama an F for failed leadership on gun control, accusing him of squandering the opportunity to push for tighter gun control laws. Now its attacking Starbucks for allowing people to carry firearms in its stores as provided for by state law. |

President Obama has the chance to give new meaning to the phrase "carry-on" as it applies to air travel. Here's hoping he pulls the trigger.
The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) is the country's largest nonprofit group that exclusively represents federal law enforcement officers. Its 26,000 members work for an alphabet soup of national-security entities: the FBI, DEA, and FEMA, for example. Not to mention Homeland Security agencies like Border Patrol, Secret Service, and the Transportation Security Administration.
The FLEOA has just asked the president to allow all appropriately certified federal, state, and local officers to take guns aboard domestic flights. |
