Coinciding with President Trumps recent visit to Warren, Second Amendment advocates held a Jan. 30 rally in Taylor to stand for gun rights.
Firearm owners gathered at Big Rock Archery across from Top Gun Shooting Sports to hear speeches on how state legislation could help or harm their cause.
Inside the lobby, information booths and merchandise tables were set up by various organizations, including the National Rifle Association, The Well Armed Woman and Gun Owners of America. While the event was not billed as a political rally, booths sold Trump gear and representatives from the Wayne County 12th District Republican Committee attended. |

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is an organization that supports some regulations on guns. However, the lobbying groups deputy chapter leader Kendra Staub wanted to make one thing clear during her recent talk in Anderson County.
We completely support the Second Amendment, she said. She likened it to the fact that even though she had not personally shot venison, she had enjoyed the taste. |

Too bad, Peggy Smith of Concord says, that Beto ORourke dropped out of the presidential race last fall.
The former Representative from Texas, motivated by a shooting massacre in El Paso six months ago that claimed 22 lives, essentially sacrificed his campaign soon after the tragedy. He transformed himself into a far-left crusader, alienating moderates, intent on tightening gun control laws, tighter even than proposals from the progressive sector of the Democratic Party. |

Monumental lobbying efforts by gun-rights proponents moved the needle in Richmond on a promised assault weapons ban but sweeping changes are still on the horizon.
On Friday a marked-up, edited and re-worked assault weapons ban cleared its first hurdle and moved out the House of Delegates Public Safety Committee. House Bill 961 proposes to add language to the state code that will define an assault firearm and put limits in place on the buying, selling and transferring of such weapons. The bill will also outlaw magazines that hold more than 12 rounds. |

The Colombian doctor was released after he allegedly killed three men who tried to rob him on a pedestrian bridge in Bogot. The event, which became a subject of national discussion, sparked a dispute in public opinion as to what is and isnt self-defense, as well as the carrying of firearms.
The man was released after voluntarily surrendering to the authorities hours after the event occurred. Although the public does not yet know the identity of the health professional, there is speculation that he is a well-known doctor in the Colombian capital. |

The decision said the Clovis woman was entitled to seek a defense of another jury instruction because her case involved alleged excessive force directed by police at her son.
The Court of Appeals said a trial judge erroneously ruled that defendants claiming to have been defending another person couldn't cite allegedly excessive force by police.
People acting to defend somebody else actually have the same limited right enjoyed by a person acting in self-defense, the Court of Appeals said. |

Count me as among the "Southern radicals" who support Americans' constitutional right to own weapons for self-protection, hunting or recreation. The sustained uproar over guns in the past two decades hasn't changed that opinion any more than would blaming my fork for gaining weight, or my car for a multiple-fatality interstate pileup.
Being a responsible gun owner, I firmly believe our ability to bear arms is ingrained by the Second Amendment outlined in the Constitution's Bill of Rights. |

Eighteen state attorneys general have joined in an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a Second Amendment Foundation petition for writ of certiorari seeking high court review in the case of Culp v. Raoul, which challenges the refusal by Illinois to take applications from non-residents for an Illinois carry license.
Plaintiffs are asking the Court to determine Whether the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms requires that the State of Illinois allow qualified non-residents to apply for an Illinois concealed carry license. SAF is joined by the Illinois State Rifle Association, Illinois Carry and several private citizens. They are represented by attorney David G. Sigale of Wheaton.

Florida semi-auto ban fails in 2020 with 19% of needed signatures, AmmoLand correspondent Dean Weingarten informed readers Tuesday. While touted in the legacy media and in proponents' advertising as a ban on assault weapons, the measure bans possession of virtually all semi-automatic rifles, many semi-automatic shotguns, but no handguns or pistols.
Weingarten does a great job of showing us how the petition was based on ignorance and fraud, so theres no reason to restate his work here. Instead, Id like to ask a question repeated in the classic Western, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:
Who are those guys? |

A bill banning the sale of assault-style weapons and possession of high-capacity magazines cleared a House committee Friday, drawing such an angry reaction from gun rights activists that the panels chairman had Capitol Police clear the room.
Sponsored by Del. Mark H. Levine (D-Alexandria), the measure would prohibit the sale or transfer of those firearms beginning July 1, and outlaw possession of the magazines six months later, on Jan. 1, 2021.
The legislation initially would have banned all possession of assault weapons, forcing owners to give them up. But the House Public Safety Committee modified it to prohibit only sales and transfers. Anyone who legally owned those guns before the law took effect would be allowed to keep them. |

Senate Bill 5, the Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Order Act, was passed by a margin of two votes on the New Mexico Senate floor Friday afternoon.
The vote began at 3:20 p.m. After a roll call vote, the bill passed 22-20, with two abstentions.
Six amendments to the bill, including the correction of two typos, were adopted, leading Sen. Mark Moores (R-21) to comment in the debate that the bill was rushed.
Red flag laws were passed in 17 other states and the District of Columbia. |

Ammo makers find new and useful variations on the familiar theme of shot, powder, wads, hulls, and primers every year, and its the new shotshells that excite me as I walked the aisles of the SHOT Show recently. This years class has something for everyone: deer hunters get new slugs; turkey hunters have two more TSS options; target shooters get a premium load; home-defenders can shoot innovative new buckshot; 16- and 28-gauge hunters have their own mixed-shot upland loads, and waterfowlers get a new bismuth load and what may be the wad of the future. Here are the shotshell highlights of SHOT 2020. |

As in many states, residents in parts of rural, conservative Virginia say they seem to inhabit an increasingly different daily reality than that of urban and suburban districts. That feeling of separation was compounded by last Novembers Democratic sweep of the states elected offices. Now residents in Frederick County are mulling a radical proposal: seceding from Virginia and joining neighboring West Virginia.
Few Frederickians actually favor a redrawn border. But the proposal speaks to the intensity of social and political polarization. |

Every year, SHOT Show sees a lot of drool-worthy releases in the form of firearms that cost more than my first car. These aspirational arms are great, and I hope to get my hands on as many of them as possible eventually. But the truth is that my budget runs more domestic beer than imported champagne, so I always look for guns that arent going to break the bank but will work every time I need them to. This year brought a bumper crop of affordable rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Here are some of 2020s best inexpensive firearms for the field or the range.

The 2020 general election is still months off, but at every Friends of the NRA event that First Vice President Charles Cotton attends around the country, members are rushing up to him to urge that the National Rifle Association get involved early.
Were hearing it now, he told me at the NRA-sponsored Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Cotton said members are always coming up to him to ask, Are you guys on top of this? We want to help." |

In a deliberate insult to the hundreds of Second Amendment supporters who took time out of their busy schedules to get to Richmond before 8AM today, Bloombergs bought and paid for House Public Safety Committee granted them a total of just five minutes to speak out against House Bill 961, the crown jewel of the Northam-Bloomberg gun ban agenda. They quickly rubber stamped this comprehensive gun ban with a vote of 12-9 after limited committee debate, before clearing the public out of the room so they can continue rubber stamping other gun control bills. Clearly, they dont want to face the citizens whose rights they are taking. |
