As this illustration by Oleg Volk suggests, the Evil Ones who are bent on disarming peaceable Americans face a dilemma.
If they base their prohibitions on weapon type and characteristics, as did the first Federal Assault Weapons Ban, smart manufacturers and gunowners can leapfrog over the legislative language and intent via relatively simple tweaks to firearm and cartridge design. As an example, see Barrett Firearms' response to California's ban on .50 BMG rifles -- the California-legal Barrett .416.
On the other hand, if the Evil Ones' motivation is "law enforcement safety", as they have claimed in their campaign against "cop-killer bullets", then they must base at least part of their upcoming bans on actual muzzle energy.... |

Codrea summed up the argument, and the philosophy that has garnered so much attention for Vanderboegh from gunowners who are drawn to firebrand leadership that says what they quietly believe.
"I can give numerous examples of Mike working within the system to effect legal and political change -- more so than many of his critics," Codrea said. "What they won't answer is what they are prepared to do if such efforts don't work. Those who don't even want to talk about that now ought to tell us why they think preparation is best deferred until it's too late. Since when is unprepared reaction a winning plan?"

State Police Lt. Richard Bolduc of Sandwich smiled as he left Barnstable District Court on Wednesday. If a judge dismisses a felony charge against him for improperly storing his service weapon, he might as well laugh at the justice system. Because if Judge Joan Lynch throws the case out, it would send the message that police are above the law. On June 25, Bolduc left his house and his service sidearm in an unlocked bureau. Bolduc's 12-year-old son took the gun, pointed it at a 5-year-old neighbor and pulled the trigger. The gun was not loaded, but police said they found a loaded clip in the same drawer as the firearm.
Imagine if the gun were loaded.

A Richards Avenue resident is being held on cash bail for a felony charge alleging he displayed his middle finger to someone who had a protection order against him.
Carlos Enriquez, 42, of 177 Richards Ave., is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on a felony charge of violating a protective order and a class A misdemeanor count of stalking. Both charges allege that on Jan. 24 Enriquez held up his middle finger to the victim while both were dining separately at the Friendly Toast, at 121 Congress St.

Charges against a city man who fired a pistol into the air to stop a group from assaulting his cousin should be dropped because the city ordinance limiting the discharge of guns flies in the face of state law and the Constitution, the defendant's attorney told a county judge during a hearing Friday.
Lancaster city's revised gunfire ordinance unconstitutionally restricts the right to protect oneself and others...
Representing the city, attorney Neil L. Albert said the city is entitled to regulate firearms discharge under state law and the charge against Swinton is appropriate... Swinton said his cousin was being attacked and beaten by a group of assailants and that he fired a warning shot to disperse them. |

The owner of Big Bobs Liquors will not be charged in the death of a man who was shot while attempting to rob the store at gunpoint in December, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. A thorough review of the investigation and evidence has revealed that the storeowner acted in self-defense and in the defense of another, Early said. He and his brother were put in fear for their lives. Two men entered Big Bobs store at 4 Richmond Ave. at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 10. At least one of the men pointed a handgun directly at a store clerk behind the counter. The storeowner, who was nearby, pulled out his own gun and shot one of the would-be robbers several times...Evan L. Rivera, 40, was pronounced dead later that night... |

The Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting will likely be packed tomorrow Tuesday. Thats when the sheriff plans to give an update on her departments concealed weapons permit policy. KPCCs Susan Valot reports.
Gun rights advocates have blasted Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens because she wants to tighten guidelines for concealed weapons permits. Hutchens considered revoking the permits, but county supervisors were concerned that revocations would show up in federal criminal databases, and raise suspicions about people whose jobs rely on security clearance.
Now, the sheriffs thinking of moving up the expiration dates on the permits. That way, theyd expire and not show up on the permit holders record... |

For the readers who don't know the story from the beginning, the following article is a follow-up of this blog posting I published on February 3rd: "Vigilant Citizens In Action: O. C. Gun Grabbing Sheriff And Her Deputies Caught Red Handed" Due to the enormous backlash generated by Sheriff Sandra Hutchens illegal actions among law abiding OC citizens CCW permit holders and gun rights activists, hundreds and hundreds of people are expected to attend the upcoming meeting taking place on February 10th.
But what exactly the Sheriff did to generate this kind of backlash?

Eight months into office, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens is locked in a bitter power struggle with the same Board of Supervisors that appointed her. And the two sides could soon end up in court. What started as a debate over Hutchens' plan to reduce concealed weapons permits has morphed into a multi-faceted fight with supervisors, who accuse her department of spying, bullying and misusing public property.
Twice in recent weeks, Hutchens has publicly apologized to board members... Supervisor Chris Norby responded this week by sending a mass e-mail accusing Hutchens of mounting a "misguided jihad" on gun-rights advocates, prompting calls from Hutchens' supporters for Norby to apologize. |

Virtually everything we do and say is monitored by the great Nanny State. Practically every service, every act is regulated by the State. Ask any independent business owner how many regulations, laws, acts, etc., demand fulfillment, and how many fees, taxes, permits, etc., are required by various government agencies and bureaucracies before he can perform a single task. For example, the federal government actually dictates how some restaurants can seat people or serve tables. Farmers are told what and how much to plant--and even to not plant. We cannot buy a gun, drive a car, marry the person we love, or even install a toilet without saying, "Pretty please?" to a dozen despots. And we still wave the flag every Independence Day and brag about how "free" we are. Again, we don't know the meaning of the word. |

Did we lose a third of the value of our 401(k)s in the past year because we're clueless boobs "not suited by background, ability or temperament to actively manage investments," Mr. Rutten? Or did our 401(k) funds collapse, like fishing floats in a tidal wave, because the government nannies who oversee the "private" 401(k) administrators saw to it we had no option but to plow our retirement funds into Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros.? Or, hidden away in the bond funds, a whole bunch of mortgage-backed securities -- you know, the "safe" stuff -- or directly into loans to Uncle Sam (government bonds), who then proceeded to turn around and loan our money to Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros., Citigroup, Bank of America ...?

Yakima's police chief faces another allegation of misconduct. A female police officer says she was sexually harassed by Chief Sam Granato. The city is now looking into that claim. Neither the lawyer for the officer nor the city will discuss the nature of the allegations. Granato's lawyer says the claims are untrue and unfounded. He says the chief is considering suing the accuser for slander.
This is the latest misconduct claim against the chief by a former or current police employee. Most of the claims and lawsuits allege retaliation. City leaders say they're still deciding whether to launch a formal investigation on the harassment claim. |

Remember Amy Winehouse clutching at her mother and looking completely gobsmacked when her song Rehab won a Grammy in 2008 for record of the year? That's how I felt when I saw that M.I.A.'s Paper Planes was nominated for the same prize this time.
By any standard, this jaunty track has to be the most incendiary, political single ever to land on this particular shortlist. It's about illegal immigration, drug-running and child soldiering, three of the hottest hot-button issues going. And unlike most political songs, there's no conspicuous moral to the story. The cheerful chorus has a bunch of kids singing with samples of guns and a cash register: "All I wanna do is BANGBANGBANGBANG, and click, KA-CHING, and take your money."... |

The House Judiciary Committee endorsed the resolution unanimously. The resolution would instruct Congress to stop trying to pass federal legislation that restricts firearm ownership.
Rep. Dan Zwonitzer, R-Cheyenne, the legislation's sponsor, said Wyoming citizens are concerned that Washington might begin imposing stricter gun control laws.
"A resolution like this isn't going to change much," Zwonitzer said, but added that the resolution would send the federal government a message. Zwonitzer said the resolution has wide support among Wyoming citizens. He said... |

On January 12, the FBI released preliminary crime date for calendar year 2008, indicating that the nation's murder rate has fallen to a 43-year low, and the nation's total violent crime rate has fallen to a 35-year low. The data suggest that since violent crime peaked in 1991, the nation's murder rate has fallen 46 percent, and the nation's total violent crime rate has fallen 41 percent.
Less gun control has coincided with less crime. Pretty simple stuff.
For most people, that is. |

WASHINGTON --- A federal jury in Memphis Friday found Arthur Sease IV, a former Memphis Police Department officer, guilty on forty-four counts of civil rights, narcotics, robbery and firearms offenses, Acting Assistant Attorney General Loretta King of the Civil Rights Division and U.S. Attorney Lawrence J. Laurenzi for the Western District of Tennessee announced.
The evidence at trial showed that from November 2003 through April 2006, Sease conspired with other Memphis police officers to use their authority as law enforcement officers, including their service weapons, to rob suspected drug dealers of cash, cocaine and marijuana. Sease and his co-conspirators would then resell the stolen drugs for their own profit. |

In a new bill introduced the first day of present session of Congress, and with zero coverage from the MSM, H.R. 45 (Blair Holts Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009) targets all gun owners in the U.S.A. This nefarious bill seeks to strip us all of our Constitutional Rights to possess and bear firearms of any distinction. It requires, within the first two years, that all new guns be registered. The bill goes retroactive after two years. Meaning that two years after the passage of the bill, ALL FIREARMS in a citizen's possession must be registered, not just those purchased after the bill passes, and this apparently applies to antique firearms as well...Why anyone would think such tactics have a place in a free society... |

State police said Thursday they don't know why Hinkel, 49, amassed such a huge collection of weaponry, a live grenade -- which state police detonated at the scene -- about 500,000 rounds of ammunition, gunpowder and military items. And he has not been charged with illegally possessing any items in the arsenal, although police were checking to see if the 259 weapons they seized were properly registered.
But Hinkel was charged in an earlier alleged assault on state troopers when they went to his home Monday to question him in connection with two recent burglaries at a farm in Upper Pittsgrove, said Sgt. Stephen Jones, a state police spokesman. |

In many non-progressive cities of America, children still learn to understand and appreciate freedom and democracy, and are taught learn to celebrate, rather than repudiate, American heritage and history...
By contrast, in San Francisco children learn that all injustice and human suffering originates with America. Hating America is a sign of intellectual and spiritual superiority, according to this towns goofy leftists...
Because of San Franciscos unhealthy liberalism and warped teaching ideals, it was necessary for the NRA to step in and teach the citizenry of this city a badly needed lesson about the Second Amendment...
All told, Gun Rights 101, cost San Francisco $800,000 at a time when the city is battling a budget deficit. |

f you're in a minority of 48 to 2 on an issue, you may be seeing truths that other people miss. Or you may be refusing to admit reality. In the case of Illinois' refusal to allow citizens to get permits to carry concealed handguns, it's the latter. But there is a glimmer of hope of change: The Illinois Sheriffs' Association has endorsed a law to afford Illinoisans this type of protection... In 21 years, Florida has had to revoke an average of eight licenses a year for crimes involving a gun--out of more than half a million permit holders at any given time. Says Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck, "If the United States had a crime rate like that, we'd think we were in Switzerland." |

Police have launched an internal investigation into how a condominium owned by Beatrice Cuello - assistant superintendent for administrative services and one of the top three cops in the department - came to be raided Thursday night by about 20 officers using "flash-bang" stun grenades. Cuello did not live at the condo, but her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend, a suspected gang member, did, sources said. They said Cuello had little contact with her daughter's 28-year-old boyfriend, who was arrested in the raid for allegedly selling guns from the home... |
