Arkansas hunters killed a record 55 elk during the 2016-17 hunting season, according to Wes Wright, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission�s elk program coordinator. The tally represented a 15 percent increase in harvest from the 2015 season and was the result of the statewide elk season established in 2016 to prevent further expansion of the herd.
�We had 11 elk taken on land outside the Core Elk Management Zone,� Wright said at the monthly commission meeting held Feb. 16 in Little Rock. �Nine were in Pope County, one was in Van Buren County and one was down in Little River County.�

A proposed bill could make it legal to carry a concealed weapon on college and university campuses in South Carolina. A proposed bill by Rep. Steven Long (R-Spartanburg) could allow anyone with a concealed-weapons permit, or CWP, to bring a firearm onto college or university property.

A man who stole 35 guns from a Jefferson County gun shop last June was sentenced late last week. Eric Michael Perez, 20, was sentenced to serve nearly 6 years (70 months) in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Bob Troyver and ATF Special Agent in Charge Debora Livingston.

Floridians with concealed-weapons licenses would be able to carry firearms into areas now deemed �gun-free� under an array of measures that will be championed by Republican lawmakers during the first legislative session since mass killings at an Orlando nightclub and a Fort Lauderdale airport.
Proposals have been introduced to allow the more than 1.7 million people with concealed-carry licenses to bring guns to places such as college and university campuses, airport terminals and government meetings.

A man who repeatedly shot another man last year as part of a dispute that didn�t directly involve him at the start was ordered Monday to serve eight years in prison. Delonte Rashad Eura, 29, of Stafford County was sentenced in Fredericksburg Circuit Court to a total of 18 years with 10 years suspended. Judge Gordon Willis� sentence exceeded the recommended state sentencing guidelines, which called for a prison term of between three and six years.

The Pinkest Party on Earth is sticking to its guns. They say they won't allow firearms inside Central City Park again during next month's festival. This festival released a statement Tuesday about guns in the park after a Gwinnett man emailed county officials, challenging the policy.

A Republican state lawmaker is threatening to drop his membership in the West Bend Sunrise Rotary Club because of the service organization's prohibition against sponsoring gun or knife shows. Rep. Bob Gannon said Tuesday that he was temporarily leaving his local Rotary club with the expectation he would eventually quit because he can't support the anti-gun policy. Gannon is an outspoken support of gun rights.

A man has been charged with manufacturing multiple weapons using a 3D printer in a Sydney home. The 27-year-old man was arrested at a unit on Bronte Road, Waverley on Tuesday where police seized four 3D-manufactured pistols including a Glock and Sig 250, two 3D printers, two air pistols and computer equipment.

A new smart holster design could make police body cameras more responsive in the moments they're needed most: when an officer draws their firearm. A man armed with two BB guns was arrested at gunpoint near the post office Monday morning, authorities said. A person reported seeing a man with a firearm around 11 a.m. near the post office at 11135 San Pablo Avenue, said El Cerrito police Sgt. J.T. Wahrlich. No injuries were reported.

A Springfield man who fatally shot a member of a rival street racing club over a sticker has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison. Benjamin Rivera was sentenced Monday to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 20 years for the May 2013 shooting of Angel Llorens.

The Alabama House of Representatives has approved a bill that would let hunters use bait for deer and feral hogs. House members voted 69-18 for the bill Tuesday. It now moves to the Alabama Senate.
