An escaped murder suspect finally met his end when he tied up the family of a father with a gun.

Authorities say Rafael McCloud, a 34-year-old murder suspect, escaped from a Mississippi jail March 2 after using a shank and stealing the jailers keys. He was on the run until he allegedly broke into a home and bound a family early Thursday morning, USA Today reports. But the father freed himself and fatally shot McCloud in the head.

The father was stabbed in the shoulder, but no injuries were reported for his wife and 4-year-old. McCloud has also been charged in the death of a 69-year-old woman. The husbands injuries were not life threatening.

Gun ordinances are more lax in Cedar City after city leaders realized they conflicted with state law.

Wednesday night, the city council voted unanimously to change the gun ordinances.

People can now open carry or conceal carry their guns in Cedar City's parks.

That's one of the most notable changes after city council member Paul Cozzens saw a study by Libertas Institute last year.

"In my opinion, anything less than a safe, you are downgrading your safety," Fowler Firearms & Gun Range Manager Jon Dezendorf said.

He says a safe should be used, even when the gun is intended for self-defense.

"There are safes that are actually critiqued just for that," he said, explaining some models allow easier access with keypad or fingerprint entry.

Protecting your gun doesn't have to cost more than the weapon itself.

"You could do a trigger lock for a few dollars, you could do a safe ranging from $30 on up to $300, $400," Dezendorf explained, "If you're able to afford the firearm, you'll be able to afford the safe."

Ed.: And the safe can be compromised with a paper clip.

As it stands, there are multiple bills going through the House and Senate concerning gun control policies. Four specifically involve the issue of open carry. As of Monday, March 7, all of them have been shot down, dashing any hopes of constituents who wanted open carry in Florida. The history of these bills and their contents follow.

It really shouldn't have come as a surprise. I mean, for a company known for quality holsters in which to carry one's self-defense handgun to come out with a sling for a carbine is just common sense.

Galco did just that with the company's Bungee sling. It's a single-point sling that clips to any number of quick-attachment points (or a QD mount), with an elasticized band that allows the rifle to be properly positioned whether it's being carried or shouldered.

A shooting at IBD Racing, an upscale auto shop, was in self defense, police say.

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. Monday at 10541 FM 1960 W #300 in Houston. Police say the intruder, who was shot dead, may not have been in the right place.

Witnesses say he was not a customer, but entered the shop looking for someone. The suspect was also angry and started threatening staff and customers.

A glimpse of the impact of such laws on the law-abiding was recently demonstrated in Great Britain. In England, self-defense is not a legitimate or good reason for ownership of a firearm. And cases of self-defense with a firearm are very often prosecuted. Not the criminal, but the homeowner. One of the most egregious example was a farmer by the name of Tony Martin.

Like Maier, I also am a hunter, fisherman, father and grandfather who has taught my children and grandchildren to safely handle firearms and yes, even pepper spray. Where I differ from Maiers perspective is that SB 174 has nothing to do with the family hunting tradition and desire to pass this heritage down to our children. It is much more basic than that. It is about every humans right to protect themselves -- that we have always had -- even before there was a Constitution or Second Amendment.

The passion underlying such condemnations may be understandable, especially in the wake of the horrific mass shootings that often prompt them. But this rhetoric does little to change the gun debate, and most likely reinforces gun owners worst fears about how liberals see them. Rather than demonize the N.R.A.s strategies, liberals should emulate them. The organization is, after all, the most effective civil rights group in the United States today.

Nothing underscores the hypocrisy of the gun control movement better than a case heard yesterday by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in which anti-gunners are challenging a 2014 law that allows Second Amendment groups to sue cities that adopt tough gun laws.

A Commonwealth Court subsequently overturned the law, but according to the Washington Times, Republican state lawmakers want the high court to revive the statute. However, in the interim, dozens of municipalities repealed gun-control regulations rather than risk a lawsuit, the newspaper said.

Despite setbacks in the mid-1980s, the gun control lobby stayed in the fight. Handgun Control, Inc. managed to recruit Sarah Brady, the wife of President Reagans press secretary James Brady, who was shot during a failed assassination attempt on the president. James Brady would later join her.

For gun grabbers the Bradys involvement signaled a small but important victory. As Kopel observed, the fact that they were Republicans offered the possibility of taking the gun control message to the Republican establishment.

Sen. Ron Latz (DFL-St. Louis Park) and Rep. Dan Schoen (DFL-Cottage Grove) introduced a new gun bill Thursday morning in a room packed full of cops, advocates from Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety, and their cooing babies.

Standing in the back of the crowd were the tearful family members of murder victims who had been gunned down in recent memory: Rachael Joseph, whose aunt was killed in Hennepin County court, as well as Pastor Rolf Olsen, whose daughter was lured to her death by a killer whod posted a babysitter ad on Craigslist.

While it may not be the most welcome news in terms of gun rights since the court kept most of the Districts strict gun regulations in place, it did refuse to rehear the case in its entirely in front of the full panel. It also upheld the panels original decision that struck down the quota on registering one gun a month (via WaPo):

Grisham told the Dallas Morning News that the group will not march outside of Obama's specific SXSW events. He said the group has banned the individual who wrote on the Facebook page to fire for effect if they see Obama. Grisham said the group does not condone violence except in self-defense. Screenshots attributed to Everytown for Gun Safety show the post by Kriss Elliott.

Very few of the existing state-specific firearms laws are associated with reduced mortality, and this evidence underscores the importance of focusing on relevant and effective firearms legislation, said Sandro Galea, dean of the School of Public Health at Boston University, an author of the study.

Implementing universal background checks for the purchase of firearms or ammunition, and firearm identification nationally could substantially reduce mortality in the U.S.

The Oklahoma House Thursday overwhelmingly adopted legislation that would permit gun owners to carry their weapons openly without a state-issued license.

House members voted 73-15 for the so-called "constitutional open carry" measure and sent it to the state Senate for debate and a vote.

The measure's author, Republican Rep. Jeff Coody of Grandfield, said it is similar to open carry laws in more than 30 other states and would allow gun owners to exercise their Second Amendment right to carry firearms openly, such is in a holster, without having to comply with existing state government licensing requirements.

If you think a handgun made in Eastern Europe is going to be of low quality and have a rough finish, you havent seen the Grand Power K100 Mk12 imported by Eagle Imports. The pistols interesting design and action, while not revolutionary, have some serious benefits not found on many other higher priced guns. While currently used by some foreign government agencies, the K100 and its siblings are also catching on here in the U.S. among competitors and people interested in self defense.

Pierce County prosecutors said Thursday they will not file charges against a 32-year-old man who fatally shot an unarmed man outside an Ashford bar last month.

Prosecutors said they do not believe they could disprove the man fired in self-defense.

The man was arrested at his Eatonville home when he called 911 to turn himself in hours after the Feb. 7 shooting of Paul Hawlett, 50. He was released from jail the next day while detectives continued their investigation.

Sales of pocket pistols continue to be healthy because the concealed carry movement is getting stronger as more and more Americans are taking responsibility for their own safety, and more and more states are recognizing our inherent right to self defense. Now Remington has jumped into that already deep pool with its new pistol, the Remington RM380.

This bill will remove all administrative penalties and references in other (non-SDA) statutes concerning the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act.

The measure will allow anyone 21 to lawfully carry a firearm in Oklahoma when carried in a holster or with a sling designed for carrying firearms.

HB3098 removes exemptions on where a person may carry a firearm, also making obtaining an SDA license voluntary.

Of the impact on public discourse, Arnold said, The First and Second Amendments are not mutually exclusive. The First Amendment allowed the protesters to speak, assemble, and seek redress of grievances while the press was allowed to report on it. The First Amendment also allowed them to speak about the Second Amendment by openly carrying firearms. It is terribly ironic that in this free speech case, a failed candidate for Oregons US Attorney is trying to stifle the free speech of the lawyers of the political protesters.

Sure, Sen. Bernie Sanders beat the odds and pulled off a significant primary win against Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's Michigan primary. But while most pundits credited disaffected white union workers and starry-eyed millennials with the Vermont senator's win, another issue could have pulled in many of the late deciders who cast their ballot for Sanders.

During Sunday's Democratic debate, Clinton tried to land some stiff blows against Sanders' support of Americans' gun rights and legislation that shields firearms manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits. His defense of the gun industry earned him a nod from the NRA, who applauded his advocacy of Second Amendment rights and citizen access to guns.
