"Yesterday, I speculated about public reaction to some hypothetical gun maker problem analagous to Toyota's out-of-control-cars. I contrasted that with Violence Policy Center executive director Josh Sugarmann's . . . remarkable assertion that gun manufacturers are 'the last unregulated industry.'"

"As it happens, Sugarmann has just recently continued with that theme, with his 'Gun Industry Continues to Produce More Lethal Weapons.'" ...

"'The Federal government has no constitutional authority to be involved in school curricula or to control jobs in the market place. This is why we will abolish the Department of Education.'"
"What, GOP loyalists expect to turn stuff like this over to the Democrats and not have them use it?" ...

How Sensitive Is Your Park?

"Yesterday a federal judge rejected a constitutional challenge to Seattle's ban on guns in city parks, noting that the U.S. Supreme Court has not said that the Second Amendment applies to cities and states as well as the federal government. That will almost certainly change after the Court decides McDonald v. Chicago, the handgun ban case it heard last week. But since McDonald involves a blanket ban rather than restrictions on where guns can be kept or carried, the Court's ruling still will not resolve the question of whether regulations like Seattle's are consistent with the Second Amendment." ...

... "This latest polling data in the telephone survey says 69 percent of the people participating in the survey believe cities have no rights to ban handguns. Only 25 percent believe cities should have that ability."

"'The Rasmussen survey clearly shows Americans have grown weary of anti-gun municipal demagoguery,' says Second Amendment Foundation Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. 'A victory in our case before the Supreme Court should send a clear signal to gun prohibitionists like Chicago Mayor Richard Daley that arbitrarily disarming law-abiding citizens under the guise of fighting crime is an idea that has no place in this country.'" ...

"There are two types of columnists rational ones and those who go off half-cocked (pun intended). Dan Thomasson falls into the latter category." ...

"Texas gun owners, myself included, are not 'paranoid' as Thomasson suggests. We are law-abiding citizens who know that gun ownership is both a right and a responsibility. We believe in our right to self-defense because we know that when seconds count, despite their best efforts, police cannot be there the moment a crime occurs. According to criminologists, guns are used 2.5 million times a year in the United States to prevent a crime from occurring, a fact that we seldom see in print or on screen." ...

"Congratulations to the Cupertino Starbucks for its recent stand on gun rights. Starbucks was 100 percent right to acknowledge[sic]1 the Second Amendment of the Constitution that gives[sic]2 the individual the right for self-protection. The NRA is correct on this issue too."

"The NRA'S actions[sic]3 of placing Starbucks and their employees in the position to take sides on a constitutional issue[sic]4 should require they (NRA) be given the 'Horses' Rear-end Award.' As much as I agree with the NRA, there is nothing that can condone their[sic]5 actions of wearing their guns on their hips into a business establishment. ..." ...

Submitter's Note: With so many mistakes, where to begin?
1) Starbucks took no Constitutional position, they said they follow the law.
2) The Second Amendment gives nothing, it protects the pre-existing, G-d given civil and human right to bear arms.
3) It was not "The NRA" who did anything, it was some Californians obeying the law.

"(Its satire, folks.)"

"Austin, being part of Texas, also has plenty of gun owners. Travis County, comprised mainly of Austin, had 1,851 concealed handgun licenses issued in 2008, fourth highest in the state."

"So what does this have to do with 'Twilight'?"

"Your March 3 editorial regarding the Second Amendment is in serious need of clarification. You state that in its 2008 decision striking down the Washington, D.C., handgun law, the Supreme Court 'ruled decisively.' The vote was 5-41, hardly decisive."

"The current renegade Supreme Court majority overturned two centuries of precedent with its tortured reading supporting an 'individual' right to bear arms. ..." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
To have no proud monarch driving over me with his gilt coaches; nor his host of excise-men and tax-gatherers insulting and robbing me; but to be my own master, my own prince and sovereign, gloriously preserving my national dignity, and pursuing my true happiness; planting my vineyards, and eating their luscious fruits; and sowing my fields, and reaping the golden grain: and seeing millions of brothers all around me, equally free and happy as myself.
