An off-duty Las Vegas police officer shot a home invasion suspect in the leg at his Henderson residence Sunday afternoon. Henderson police believe the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Carlos Chacon, was fleeing an earlier home invasion in the same neighborhood, department spokesman Keith Paul said. Paul said the two men were armed with handguns. |

Lawful concealed weapon carriers validly carrying a defensive weapon in the state where the national park is located must have the right under the Second Amendment to carry their concealed weapon inside national park boundaries.
Recent Supreme Court precedent clarifies the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms as an individual right. Anyone concerned about the supposed dangers of concealed weapons in national parks should examine the state crime statistic in which the park is located to determine how many concealed weapons license holders were charged with violent crimes committed with their concealed weapon.
The truth is there is no danger from these weapons. |

It's a case of dueling rulings.
On Thursday, a federal judge ruled that Seattle's ban on carrying firearms in city parks and community centers passes constitutional muster. But last month, a King County Superior Court judge ruled that the city cannot ban firearms in those areas.
In this instance, the King County ruling takes precedent. Despite Thursday's federal court decision, the city's gun ban is still on indefinite hold.
"We are still bound by the state court injunction," said Mayor Mike McGinn. "But the significance of the federal court ruling is this is not a constitutional issue. This is an issue of state law." |

Carrying a firearm into a municipal building is legal, but is it wise to openly display a gun at a heated public meeting?
The presiding officer of the Borough Assembly said openly displayed sidearms at a meeting on Feb. 25, when emotions ran high, didnt bother him. But some assembly members said it concerns them. Borough officials said no one complained to them about the firearms, however.
On the agenda at that Feb. 25 meeting was the introduction of an air pollution control plan, and it drew more than 100 people to the meeting, including vocal opposition. Many criticized the plan and some criticized the municipal leaders. People held picket signs. There was shouting at assembly members and at the mayor. There were threats. |

Wyoming has joined a growing list of states with self-declared exemptions from federal gun regulation of weapons made, bought and used inside state borders but lawmakers in the Cowboy State have taken the issue one step further, adopting significant penalties for federal agents attempting to enforce Washington's rules.
According to a law signed into effect yesterday by Democratic Gov. Dave Freudenthal, any agent of the U.S. who "enforces or attempts to enforce" federal gun rules on a "personal firearm" in Wyoming faces a felony conviction and a penalty of up to two years in prison and up to $2,000 in fines. |

In a world where the average citizens Second Amendment rights are constantly being undermined, we need all the help we can get. For the time being, were safe at least in Indiana.
...
On Feb. 22, the Indiana Senate voted 41-9 to pass House Bill 1065, also known as the Indiana Emergency Powers Bill. The bill prevents law enforcement and military personnel from confiscating legally owned firearms and ammunition from law-abiding citizens in a declared state of emergency, such as during a natural disaster or attack.
Another provision in the bill allows employees the right to keep firearms stored and locked in their vehicles while they are at their place of employment, guaranteeing that they wont get fired as a result. |

To me, these are the words of the Founding Fathers who lived over 200 years ago. Is there anyone out there who can say they got it all right?
When they wrote the Second Amendment, they also forgot to include in those Amendments the "right" for people other than white males to vote.
Thankfully, that got corrected, albeit almost 100 years later for black men and 150 years later for women.
My point is, the Constitution has been amended more than 25 times since it was written, mainly because they should have included many things in the original document. |

A South Toledo, Ohio store clerk reportedly shot a wig-wearing robber in self defense.
Police say that on Sunday morning, a robber who was wearing a woman's wig entered Bengal's Food Mart and threatened those present with a handgun. The store clerk grabbed his self defense gun and fired, killing the robber and ending the violent, according to police. Neither the store clerk nor any bystanders were harmed.
Once again, gun ownership has allowed a law abiding person who was going about their peaceful business to defend themselves from unprovoked and violent attack. |

Richard Callaghan gives away a trigger lock with every gun he sells at his Mechanic Street shop in Marlborough, but he wonders why he's required to use one when he's in his own home.
"If you are physically there, you are in control. When you're not home, you're not in control, and you should have it locked," said the owner of Callaghan Firearms. "If you have the gun for protection, why would you lock it when you're in the house?"
Bay State gun owners will continue to be required to keep firearms either equipped with a tamper-resistant lock or in a securely locked container after a ruling by Massachusetts' highest court this week. |

You may not know Leonard Embody's name, but you might know his recent troubles with the law and guns.

"I'm a private person," Embody said. "I didn't want to be in the spotlight. I didn't want my name in the news reports."
Embody's name and story have been appeared in news reports and online blogs for months. He was thrust into the media spotlight last December when he carried an AK-47-type pistol into Radnor Lake State Park.
"It wasn't modified in any way except for a sling, and I had painted the tip orange on it," he said.
His gun-carry permit was current and the gun was legal, but park rangers stopped Embody and detained him for three hours. He was later released with no charges filed. |

On Thursday, a federal judge rejected a constitutional challenge to Seattle's ban on guns in city parks, noting that the U.S. Supreme Court has not said that the Second Amendment applies to cities and states as well as the federal government. That will almost certainly change after the Court decides McDonald v. Chicago, the handgun ban case it heard last week. But since McDonald involves a blanket ban rather than restrictions on where guns can be kept or carried, the Court's ruling still will not resolve the question of whether regulations like Seattle's are consistent with the Second Amendment. |

The cat: Common, popular house pet or exotic, dangerous animal? A number of animal activists have contacted state officials in an effort to head off a potential reclassification of feral cats, which could end the growing number of programs that trap, neuter and return them back into neighborhoods or the wild, and allow them to be hunted. The state Fish and Game Council has condemned the idea of leaving cats in the wild and now another committee that reports to the state Department of Environmental Protection is studying the issue of TNR programs.

WASHINGTON Two guns used in high-profile shootings this year at the Pentagon and a Las Vegas courthouse both came from the same unlikely place: the police and court system of Memphis, Tenn. The use of guns that were once in police custody to attack police officers highlights a little-known divide in gun policy in the U.S.: Many cities and states destroy guns gathered in criminal probes, but others sell or trade the weapons in order to get other guns or buy police equipment. John Timoney, who led the Philadelphia and Miami police departments and served as New York's No. 2 police official, said he doesn't believe police departments should be putting more guns into the market.~~ Oh, there's a surprise!

In my prior post I noted some rather amazingly loony-left language from our new Environmental Protection commissioner on the subject of global warming. I wish I could say Bob Martin is an exception to the rule in the Christie administration. But that administration's looking more liberal by the minute. Paula Dow seems to be doing her best as attorney general to move the Gov to the left. Note this release from the New Jersey Association of Rifle and Pistol Clubs: ... This is a fascinating fight for those who believe in the Constitution and the right to bear arms. So why is the "conservative" Christie administration on the wrong side of it? |

West Virginia lawmakers want to give gun buyers an annual break from the state sales tax.
The Legislature sent the governor the necessary bill Saturday after it passed the Senate 25-9. It earlier won House approval 96-2.
The bill sets the sales tax holiday during the first weekend of each October. Supporters say it should help businesses that sell firearms, particularly in border counties.
But Sen. Jesse Guills, R-Greenbrier, said it would make West Virginia the butt of jokes. Other critics include the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, which faulted Oklahoma lawmakers for a similar proposal earlier this year. It frowns on temporary tax measures. |

A phone call from a police negotiator that jolted David J. Pyles awake in the predawn hours of Monday continues to jangle the nerves of observers monitoring the way authorities took the Medford man into protective custody and seized his firearms.
Pyles told Starrett he initially thought the early morning call must be a prank, but looked out to see his yard surrounded by police.
"They asked him to come out and said they wouldn't handcuff him, arrest him or take him off the property," Starrett recounted.
However, Pyles said, he then was handcuffed and taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for evaluation.

New York City has sent out undercover investigators to catch gun dealers violating background check laws. But West Virginia lawmakers want to make it a crime for investigators to conduct such sting operations in West Virginia.
The Legislature passed a measure Saturday that targets anyone who tries to entice a firearms dealer or private seller under circumstances that the individual knows is unlawful.
The bill addresses a tactic employed by New York during stings conducted last year at seven guns shows in Tennessee, Ohio and Nevada. |
