Bored after three years of dance, and uninterested in various other random activities shed tried over the years, DArcy Allen was 11 the first time she went to the shooting range with her dad.
I came out to try it once and I havent actually stopped, said Allen, now 16, who traded her dance shoes for a .22-calibre rifle and has been joined by her brother and two younger sisters as a regular at the East Elgin Sportsman Association in Aylmer.
There is a huge difference . . . an incredible rise in women coming into the sport, said J.R. Cox, who owns two 1,000 member clubs the Shooting Edge in Calgary and Target Sports in Toronto.

The York County Sheriff's deputy who shot a 70-year-old man reaching for his cane during a traffic stop last month wept and begged God to forgive him after he fired about six shots at the man, according to the deputys dash cam video released Wednesday afternoon. During a news conference at the York County Detention Center, Sheriff Bruce Bryant said deputies reviewed video of the incident time and time and time again and feel that Deputy Terrance Knox did nothing wrong when he fired his service weapon during a traffic stop on U.S. 321 in Clover at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25. |

First of all, watch this video, and make sure to watch all of it, listening to the exchange between LEOs near the end. Then Ill make several observations. First of all, take note of the sentence crafted by the LEO who showed up after the incident: You done what you had to do. This is a sad commentary on the intelligence and educational level of these LEOs. This is a serious rather than a rhetorical question. ... Second, take note that without even having seen the evidence and without knowing anything at all about the situation, the blue wall is closing in. It happens immediately. You done what you had to do. There is nothing more important than going home safely at the end of their shift. |

Conceptually Guncoin weds two of the freedom movements most popular tools: guns and cryptocurrency. So, on the face of it, the existence of Guncoin makes sense.
Guncoin claims to exist out of a real public need. In the United States it is very difficult to find conventional payment processors willing to serve online firearm dealers. When a third party payment processor is willing to process a transaction it involves an incredibly high fee. |

Activists have been pushing against a crop of new gun-related bills in Ohio, including one they call a Stand Your Ground law. And they invited the mother of a Florida teenager killed in a high-profile shooting to lobby with them. Lucia McBaths son Jordan Davis was shot in 2012 in a dispute over loud music. McBath says the man accused of shooting him used Floridas Stand Your Ground law as his defense, and Ohios law is similar to it. |

Today, the New Jersey Attorney General filed a brief in the Drake right to carry case, urging the U.S. Supreme Court not to take the case. Drake is the pending federal challenge to New Jersey's unconstitutional carry law, brought by the Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs (ANJRPC) and the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), who have asked the Supreme Court to hear the case.
At the heart of the lawsuit is the idea that citizens should not have to prove "need" to exercise a fundamental Constitutional right. New Jersey's "justifiable need" standard requires the applicant to provide evidence of prior attacks or threats before a carry permit is issued by a judge a virtually impossible standard for most people to meet. |

Marin County Sheriff Robert Doyle said he doesn't plan to loosen how permits are issued until the issue has been conclusively decided by the courts. He said he's not sure how may people have applied for permits since the ruling as most of the inquiries in Marin have been phone calls.
"We've had more requests than usual since the ruling. We've told people they can apply, but we're going to apply the same standard of demonstrating 'good cause' until it's finally been decided by the court," Doyle said. ...
Doyle said he's a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but believes concealed-weapons permits should be reserved for those who have some sort of verifiable threat in their lives. |

The Rev. Al Sharpton on Monday led a group of activists through the streets of Tallahassee to the Capitol building to protest the states controversial Stand Your Ground self-defense law.
Prior to the march, the civil rights leader and baptist minister addressed a crowd of approximately 2,500 people who were fired up about the statute that removes ones duty to retreat and allows one to use force, including deadly force, if one reasonably fears for his/her life. |

Despite all the lethal mayhem caused by the Stand Your Ground laws now on the books in nearly two dozen states, the gun lobby is inviting more trouble.
In Georgia, for instance, a pernicious bill approved by the House authorizes an array of dangerous laissez-faire gun provisions. One would allow convicted felons who kill someone with an illegally possessed gun to seek justification under the states Stand Your Ground law. A second would allow concealed guns on college campuses, despite the opposition of 78 percent of polled Georgians. |

Attorneys for Marissa Alexander are asking for a Stand Your Ground hearing to argue that she fired a shot at her estranged husband in self defense.
It will be the second time Alexander, 33, seeks immunity from prosecution under the states Stand Your Ground law, which allows the use of deadly force instead of retreating if the person is afraid for his or her life. A previous claim in July, 2011 was rejected.... |

What I take issue with is the lip service that the Pilot pays to the Constitution. "We are not opposed to the 2nd Amendment," the Pilot insists. And that is all it says about the matter. But in two recent cases, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the 2nd Amendment protects the right of an ordinary, law-abiding individual to carry a gun for self-defense. |

Michelle Nunns got a gun problem.
The Democratic Senate hopeful in Georgia, one half of the That 70s Show ticket looking to bring the party back to prominence in the state, seems to have a problem telling voters where shes at on the Second Amendment.
In a weekend interview, she voiced opposition to recently passed Georgia legislation loosening restrictions on carrying firearms in the state, which passed by an overwhelming margin. That in and of itself is unlikely to win any of the rural conservative votes needed to pull off an upset. |

Yesterday, Senate Bill 232 passed unanimously in the state Senate Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee by voice vote and will now be considered by the full Senate.
SB 232, sponsored by state Senator Brandon Smith (R-30), would require that when a chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) signoff is required for the transfer of a firearm or other item regulated by the National Firearms Act (NFA), certification must be provided within fifteen days as long as the applicant is not prohibited by law from receiving the firearm or other item. |

Fortunately, that proved to be too much even for the Legislature to swallow.
Not so, however, with House Bill 2339, which cleared the Republican-controlled House this week, on a 34-22 party-line vote.
The bill would allow people who have concealed-carry permits to bring their guns into libraries, recreation centers and most any other public building unless said building is outfitted with metal detectors and armed guards. Public schools and colleges would remain off limits. |

Supporters of a bill to extend gun rights in Alabama will have to wait until next week to see if they can muster enough votes to pass it in the state Senate.
The bill by Republican Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale would allow people without a pistol permit to carry a loaded handgun in their vehicles. The bill topped the Senates work agenda Thursday, but it drew extended debate from Democratic senators opposed to it and other bills farther down the Senates work agenda. The Senate adjourned Thursday night after proponents couldnt get enough votes to end opponents filibuster. |

It's a package of bills that law-makers say concerns public safety and the second amendment: The Right to Bear Arms.
Currently the records of those who have concealed pistol licenses are available to the public, but that could change.
A total of 81 representatives voted Thursday in the Michigan House to make gun records confidential instead of open to the public under the Freedom of Information Act.
Despite bi-partisan support this topic still has some questioning the logic. |

On Wednesday, the House voted 34-22 to approve HB 2339, which would allow conceal-carry permit holders to take their handguns into most public buildings and events. Guns would be permitted in government buildings unless those places provided gun lockers, armed guards and metal detectors, a huge and unrealistic unfunded mandate on Arizona towns and cities.
The House also passed HB 2517 to play the heavy. This bill would impose a $5,000 civil penalty on any municipality or government official enforcing gun regulations that go beyond the scope of state law. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them. Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States; With a Preliminary Review of the Constitutional History of the Colonies and States before the Adoption of the Constitution [Boston, 1833]. |
