A few years ago, when I was first introduced to the Canik brand of semi-automatic pistols, my initial response was more ho-hum than yee-haw. Lacking previous experience with the companys products, I thought they were just another set of less-expensive imports. I mentioned this to Mark Keefe, NRA Publications editorial director, and he was quick to say, in so many words, Gil, dont knock them until you try them! With this in mind, I requested a C-100 9 mm pistol for an evaluation. It was a compact, all-steel CZ 75 clone made by Canik and imported by TriStar, which proved to be a better gun than the price tag would suggest.

Second Amendment supporters often have to make difficult decisions. Not in the sense of Glock vs. Colt vs. Springfield Armory, but more along the lines of how to address a given piece of anti-Second Amendment legislation. Take for instance the Stopping the Fraudulent Sales of Firearms Act, known as S 3776 and HR 6997. The legislation purports to prohibit the importation, sale, or manufacture of firearms by means of false or fraudulent pretenses, representations, or promises.

All of good training relies on communication. Some of our information gets communicated by spoken words, some teaching is by printed page, some transmission of knowledge is by videos and slides, and some education happens by demonstration and hands on experiences (remember, there are students who learn best by touching, rather than by words). Recently, I wrote about an older friend (older than me anyway) who volunteered to teach me about using my muzzleloader. Al used a reloading metaphor to prepare me to learn how to load and shoot the muzzleloader. He built the analogy across time. |

Im not a collector of anything, really. I like looking at collections of guns, but I prefer shooting them. I really like looking at collections of ammunitionyes thats a thingmaybe even as much as shooting the stuff. Attached to the dashboard of my truck, theres a little bobblehead-type figurine. Shes been riding with me for five years, and her name is Casey. Heres the story of how we met, and some insight on the hobby of ammunition collecting. |

Tomorrow, the Senate Committee on State, Veterans, and Military Affairs is scheduled to consider The Vote Without Fear Act, House Bill 22-1086. Please contact committee members and respectfully ask them to OPPOSE this unnecessary measure.
House Bill 22-1086 The Vote Without Fear Act - The title itself is enough to know that sponsors and supporters of this measure hate your Second Amendment rights. HB 1086 looks to ban the open carry of a firearm at voting locations in the Centennial state. It is the intention of this measure to prohibit you from exercising one of your constitutional rights while engaging in another. |

Welcome to todays Photo of the Day! Here we have an early Mossberg firearm in the form of the Brownie pistol. These little guys came onto the scene in 1920, but were patented by Oscar Mossberg in 1919. Oscar Mossberg at this point was in his 50s and already had a life rich in firearm-related adventures with other manufacturers. For example, he worked for the Marlin company before it was actually Marlin! In a way, this pistol had a life before it was a Mossberg branded gun. Oscar Mossberg had actually licensed a similar design with the same operating mechanism to the Shattuck Company who produced the squeeze-firing Unique Pistol.

Newly-revealed Russian outrages including the attacks on a maternity hospital and innocent women and children further reinforces the necessity for all European nations to have an armed and trained populace, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today. Several news agencies are reporting these barbaric attacks, said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, which should erase any doubt about the intent of the Russian invaders, and the need for every able bodied citizen to have the tools to fight back. |

A bill introduced in Topeka on Monday would ban so-called "ghost guns" in the state of Kansas. The Johnson County, Kansas district attorney said that type of gun was used in the shooting at Olathe East High School. In a Senate committee, Overland Park Democrat Cindy Holscher introduced the bill exactly one week after Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe called on lawmakers to look into ghost guns.

Buried in the omnibus spending bill that hurriedly passed both the U.S. House and the Senate last week were two provisions that no doubt delighted anti-gun groups: expanded enforcement of the NICS background-check system and the recruitment of local and state officials to enforce federal gun-control laws. The measure that passed the House earlier in the week arrived at the Senate at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. By 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, 68 Senators had voted for it under pressure to avoid a government shutdown. |
