A bill that would give gun buyers a break on the state's 6 percent sales tax passed quietly on the final day of the legislative session.
Known as "The Second Amendment Appreciation Act," it creates an annual sales tax holiday on firearm purchases during the second weekend in October.
The bill puts Gov. Joe Manchin in an interesting position. In 2005, he eliminated an annual sales tax holiday weekend for parents on purchases of school clothing and school supplies begun during Gov. Bob Wise's administration.
To be consistent, he'd have to veto the gun bill. But opposing a measure that passed by large margins in both houses with backing from the National Rifle Association might not be politically popular. |

In the video below, we learn that Rebecca Peters, director of of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), is working with the United Nations and governments around the world to grab guns. Peters and IANSA are funded by the globalist George Soros.
Rebecca Peters was Chair of the National Coalition for Gun Control, which campaigned to tighten Australias gun laws in the 1990s, writes the Umut Foundation, an organization dedicated to Individual Disarmament in harmony with the European Union. |

Ive always been confused by Starbucks, the great American institution and symbol of yuppies and carefree consumerism.
This is the place where the smallest cup of coffee is called a Tall. Depending on what you order, you can easily spend two or three bucks for a cup.
In other words, its the sort of place with the kinds of products mocked by right-wing opponents of vegetarians, elitism and free-range chicken potpies. That's why I was surprised to learn that some gun-toting, Second Amendment-loving customers were sitting in Starbucks, sipping tea.

On what it will mean if the handgun ban is overturned
"It would mean that no state can infringe on the right to keep and bear arms. What that means is hard to say. Does that mean that you and I have the right to buy a Stinger missile? Does that mean we have the right to buy a tank? My sense is I don't think that's what the Supreme Court is going to mean. But they are going to have to refine what they mean by 'keep and bear arms' over many years, and this area of the law which had been settled for decades, that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual's right to keep and bear arms is suddenly wide open. And gun control is not just politically on the ropes; it is legally very much in question everywhere." |

A recent New York Times op-ed is proving to be simply the latest in a long string of such pieces proving that the editors at the supposed paper of record simply do not get it. Opining under the headline Preserving Reasonable Gun Limits, the editors of the New York Times demonstrate a breathtaking disregard or misunderstanding for the nature of constitutionally guaranteed liberties in the United States. |

For the fourth time in as many years, the Colorado Legislature killed a bill Monday to extend the states Make My Day law to businesses.
On a near party-line vote, the House Judiciary Committee said the measure that would allow store owners and their workers to use deadly force just went too far.
House Bill 1094, introduced by Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, and a candidate for the GOP nomination for the 4th Congressional District, said the measure would help protect business owners and their employees from unscrupulous people who enter their shops. |

I like black snakes. Oh sure, I get a little upset with them when they invade the bluebird house in the front yard, but overall, Id say a black snake is beneficial to have around. Copperheads are another matter; I kill copperheads on sight. I dont know if this applies to copperheads, but in some places, its illegal to kill a rattle snake. If I lived there, I would be guilty of that law from time to time and Id have to rely on luck and keeping my mouth shut to stay out of trouble.
In the Sixties, I had a small Smith and Wesson 2 Kit Gun. The Kit Gun was touted to be the perfect tackle box gun for shooting snakes while fishing. |

Several weeks ago hunting buddy Bill Boone was showing me a very nice over-under, 20-gauge shotgun he'd recently bought at a good price from a gun store. I'd heard about Mackey's Landing Firearms but had never been there yet so I decided it was time to I head for Jamesville.
Since our beginnings as a colony of England, Americans have been fascinated with guns. Guns were tools to harvest food, provide protection from predators, and a means of securing our freedom and independence. Guns were so important to our people that our Constitution guarantees that we Americans will always have an individual right to keep and bear arms.
The Jamesville store lays claim to being the world's largest gun shop. |

Wow, your Guns in national parks editorial must have been an easy one to write! Im sure all you did was brush off the editorial you wrote after the passage of the Law Abiding Citizens Self-Defense Act of 1996, which allowed South Carolinians who underwent fingerprinting, an FBI background check and took an eight-hour certified safety class to carry concealed firearms. After all, back then you wrote that allowing more citizens to carry firearms would lead to shootouts at stop signs, bloodshed over parking spaces and overall mayhem, all because more people were packing heat as you put it. |

Anchorage 2ATF has been involved with the carry on campus issue. Legal contends its the right of students to carry weapons for self defense as affirmed by the U.S. Constitution and State of Alaska Constitutions as well as state statutes. UAA is in violation of state law by its policy of no weapons on campus.
...
The 2nd Amendment Task Force Network and affiliated organizations say its time to get this situation resolved before a tragic incident occurs. Many also think that the Board of Regents will use more delaying tactics with Mr. Hines since they wield so much power over him. Many are suggesting we start immediate armed protests on campus with media attendance to bring this issue to resolution. |

Thousands of Illinois supporters of the Second Amendment traveled to the State Capitol in Springfield last week for Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day.
The main focus of IGOLD, as it has come to be known, is lobbying state legislators for a right to carry law that would make it legal to carry a firearm for personal protection.
The estimated crowd of 7,000 included several hundred southern Illinois attendees who took advantage of the more than 18 charter buses making the trip from all corners of the state. |

We wrap up our series with Wyoming Speaker of the House of Representatives Colin Simpson with a look at a failed bill that has attracted its fair share of controversy. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has more.
House bill 113 was dubbed the concealed carry bill, and it would have allowed Wyoming residents to carry a concealed gun without a permit. While the bill passed in the House of Representatives, it ultimately died in the Senate. Speaker of the House Colin Simpson co-sponsored the bill, and he says that the Senate's decision to kill the legislation didn't come as a surprise to him. |

It should be noted that documented cases of self-defense typically do not include those situations where a potential incident was prevented by the mere fact that someone was armed. If you have a documented event related to a concealed handgun license holder involved self-defense story not listed here, please contact us via the Contact Us links. This is a work in progress. Less than 48 hours after a co-owner of Allied Music of Ohio turned the tables on a gunman trying to rob his establishment Friday afternoon, a similar scenario played out Sunday morning at a South Toledo grocery store - only this time, with a deadly result.
Toledo police said a would-be robber who entered Bengals Food Mart, 2625 Airport Hwy., about 10:15 a.m. was dropped by gunfire from one of the store's clerks.
The clerk's identity was not released. Authorities also said they were not immediately sure of the identity of the man who apparently had intended to rob the store. |

Liberals don't like the concept of American exceptionalism. The liberals want to teach what's wrong with America (masquerading under the code word "social justice") instead of what's right and successful. The SBOE voted to include describing how American exceptionalism is based on values that are unique and different from those of other nations.
The SBOE specified that teaching about the Bill of Rights should include a reference to the right to keep and bear arms. Some school curricula pretend the Second Amendment doesn't exist. |

An assistant attorney general says a bill that's intended to protect Alaskans who use deadly force in self-defense or defending property could contribute to vigilantism.
Annie Carpeneti, head of the law department's criminal division, says her department is "confused and concerned" by Rep. Mark Neuman's self-defense bill.
The Republican from Big Lake says he wants to protect law-abiding citizens from ending up in court justifying self-defense. Carpeneti says the state already has strong self-defense laws and that Neuman's bill would encourage unnecessary violence. |

The Associated Press reports that when a rapist attacked a female jogger in Malibu last week, her only defense was to jump off a cliff.
She had just finished running when a man attacked her from behind. Police say she may have struggled for as long as 30 minutes, when she finally broke free and went over the cliff. Fortunately, it wasnt completely vertical, and she was able to control her descent enough so that she only suffered some bumps and bruises, but did not break any bones in the fall. |

"I'm seeing some Republicans who have been part of the establishment, who never committed a restoring act in their tenure and who have actually been part of the problem, working the crowds, and making sure their names are associated with leadershipwhether they've actually made a career of leading in a Constitutional principles-first way or not. I've witnessed speeches that were really collections of platitudes, the speaker pandering to the passions of the crowd with the right buzz words, but never really saying much that couldn't be equivocated into something entirely different by a skillful weasel-worder applying the right spin." |

Three men were robbing the Super Y party store at the corner of Middlebelt and Ecorse roads at 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the customer, 37, and his fiancee, 35, both from Highland Park, walked in, Romulus Police Chief Michael St. Andre said.
The couple made a random stop at the store as the robbery was taking place, St. Andre said.
They were ambushed and the female was ordered to the ground at gunpoint, St. Andre said. He began pleading with the suspect not to shoot her.
Instead, one gunman pointed his weapon at the man, who grabbed it. They struggled, and the witness shot the gunman twice, according to investigators. The gunman then stumbled out the front door, collapsed and died, St. Andre said |

(A whimsical look at the recent Census 2010 letter arriving in our mailboxes.)
By now, perhaps you have received your warning letter from the Census Bureau...
You might wonder why a gun rights writer wants to venture into this topic, but remember that taxation is another way to ban guns, by reducing disposable income available for self-defense tools and training. Certainly, the anti-gun Brady Campaign understands this. |

Sunday morning a little after 10am, a man entered Bengals Food Mart on Airport Road in Toledo wearing a woman's wig and threatening clerks with a handgun. According to witnesses, the robber fired at the clerks before one of them returned fire killing the suspect.
This was the second time in two days that a criminal was shot during an attempted robbery in Toledo. Friday, another robber was shot while trying to rob Allied Music. That criminal survived and is currently being held in the Lucas County jail. |
