"The bottom line? It is fair to say that time and again, a generation of senators has filibustered gun control legislation -- or, more importantly, prevented gun control from being considered by threatening to filibuster it. Without the threat of a filibuster, we would almost certainly have national gun registration... at the very least."
"Now, in order to force confirmation of seven judges, the Senate is considering abolishing the filibuster outright." |

"Republicans, their ranks expanded in the Senate with the help of the National Rifle Association, may be close to gaining legislation to shield gun manufacturers from lawsuits claiming they put weapons into criminal hands."
"The Republican-controlled House passed the legislation during the previous Congress, and GOP senators would have if Democrats hadn't attached to it a reauthorization of an assault weapons ban."
"With seven new Republicans in the chamber, Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, thinks he has the votes to get the legislation through without any detrimental Democratic amendments. Gun control groups already are fighting to head off the effort." |

"...The moral of this sordid tale? Your choice at this moment is to acknowledge your responsibility as a human being deficient in fangs and claws to justly deter such unwarranted assault by any disparity of force, and recognizing the universal principle that action always beats reaction, understand that no mercenary force of proxy-guardians can ever be there in time to save your precious life, your sacred honor, or your human dignity."

"On Tuesday, the remnants of the million moms mustered around the country to jog our conscience about the daily mayhem, the 82 Americans who are shot to death each day, including eight kids under 18 years old."
KABA Note: This is an outright lie. According to the CDC, less than THREE people under the age of 18 died by gun fire each day in 2002. 977 in total. 279 of those shootings were suicides, and ergo, these kids weren't shot to death. They killed themselves.
"One thing Heller and the other moms wanted me to help them make clear is that they are not 'anti-gun.' Instead, they stressed, they are 'anti-gun violence.' "
"OK. Point noted. But the victory goes to the gunslingers: If not even the mothers can come right out and say they hate the bloody guns, then it is clear: The bloody guns have won."
KABA Note: And here we thought the victory goes to those thousands of people who stop dangerous thugs each year by using their guns, and preventing yet more tragedy.

"Sen. Jarrett Barrios (D-Boston) will file a bill banning the sale of two types of guns in Massachusetts: a 'cop killer' handgun and a rifle capable of disabling aircrafts."
"Barrios, who chairs the Joint Committee on Public Safety, said the .50 caliber rifle - a weapon capable of firing a five and a half inch round into a target outside the George Sherman Union from Danielsen Hall - opens the door to potential terrorist attacks on 'easy targets' around Massachusetts, such as Logan International Airport and the Liquid Natural Gas Tankers in the Mystic River. Barrios and others said the danger of the 'cop-killer' Five-seveN handgun is its ability to be easily concealed and used by criminals to pierce bulletproof vests." |
