City of Belle Meade considers change to gun ban law after a gun rights activist walked down a city thoroughfare with a loaded pistol in his hand. The mayor says the city is closing a loophole that allowed Leonard Embody, whose state carry permit was revoked earlier this week, to carry the military-style weapon down city street. The NRA-ILA is encouraging the public to voice concerns over this change.

Calling guns in bars a "recipe for disaster," the state's police chiefs have pleaded with Gov. Bob McDonnell to veto legislation that would ease Virginia's concealed weapon laws.

Virginia Beach police Chief Jake Jacocks Jr. sent a letter to McDonnell last week on behalf of the state association of chiefs comparing the combination of firearms and alcohol with drinking and driving.

"We can fully expect that at some point in the future a disagreement that today would likely end up in a verbal confrontation, or a bar fight, will inevitably end with gunfire if you sign this legislation into law," Jacocks wrote.

A man coming home from work early Monday morning killed one would-be robber and sent a second running for his life in Ocoee.

A man who appears to be the homeowner ... returned home shortly after 8 a.m. and started cleaning his driveway of the blood left behind by the assailants.

Ocoee Police say the victim returned to his house in the Orchard Park neighborhood on Pomegranate Court around 12:30 a.m. and noticed a suspicious car near his driveway. After pulling into the home, two men, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, allegedly attacked the homeowner.

It is a matter of record that too many members of professional law enforcement, especially administrators, simply do not trust citizens to be armed and enabled to defend themselves from criminal attack.

Notwithstanding this too-common attitude among some law enforcement administrators, many street cops understand that they can rarely be present to stop a criminal attack to interpose themselves between a criminal and his intended victim no matter how they sincerely wish to protect people.

Why do some police administrators distrust armed citizens?

Numerous problems with the no-fly list are probably why even liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union believe the list is unconstitutional.

There might be some disagreement and difference of opinion about exactly what our Second Amendment rights mean, but one would hope that most Americans would agree that no right explicitly protected by our Constitution can be removed or abridged in the manner the Brady Campaign suggests. We can be pretty sure that when our founders wrote "shall not be infringed" into the Bill of Rights, they didn't mean subject to cancellation at the whim of an unelected government bureaucrat with a list.

WV: Gun bill gives Manchin 'pure heartburn'

Gov. Joe Manchin wouldn't come right out and say it, but there appears to be a good shot that he will veto a proposed sales tax holiday on gun purchases in West Virginia.

"I can't look struggling children and families in the eye and say 'I'm sorry that I can't help you, but by God you don't have to pay the sales tax on guns'," Manchin said.

The so-called "Second Amendment Appreciation Act" quietly slipped through on the final day of the legislative session with heavy support in both houses. It would exempt guns from the state's 6 percent sales tax during one October weekend each year.

March 1st, 2010 marked the one year anniversary of Virginia Gun Owners Forum (VGOF), an online forum community at www.VaGunForum.net.

After the 2008 elections and the democrat controlled senate many gun owners feared that their ability to purchase and own firearms would be legislatively restricted, so Rick Sandlin began work on VGOF with the vision of creating a one stop shop for all information relating to firearm ownership in Virginia.

Over 1200 individual users frequent VGOF, a bulletin board based forum to discuss anything from the latest Bushmaster rifle to state & national gun politics.

Republican legislation that would decouple adoptions from gun ownership gave Democrats a forum Tuesday to lambast the state ban on adoption by gay and lesbian couples.

Republican bills advancing in both houses would prohibit child welfare workers from asking couples who want to adopt children whether they own guns. Sen.Thad Altman of Melbourne, one of the sponsors, said asking people about gun ownership violated their Second Amendment rights.

"That's a private matter," Altman said. "A person has a lawful right to own a weapon."

Pelosi to use Jedi mind trick to pass health care bill

This morning America awoke to news of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's latest plan to pass President Obama's unpopular and massive health care "reform" bill. It's pretty ingenious - Pelosi will just "deem" the bill as passed by the House without actually holding a vote on the bill. . . .

Gun owners should be particularly worried at this procedure. Pelosi could easily use this Jedi mind trick to pass without a vote anti-gun legislation such as banning private sales of guns at gun shows or banning scary but otherwise normal rifles often demonized by some as so called "assault weapons."

As Obi-Wan Kenobi warned us, "the force can have a strong influence on the weak minded."

Business owners, holster those guns: Colorados "Make My Day" law still does not apply to the states workplaces.

For the fifth consecutive year, a legislative committee defeated an attempt Monday to broaden the homeowner self-defense protections to places of business. This time, it was the House Judiciary Committee that shot down House Bill 1094, sponsored by Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, by a vote of 6-5.

The Make My Day law, passed in 1985, gives homeowners immunity from prosecution if they use deadly force on an intruder who has entered their dwelling place illegally and who they believe could use physical force against them.

As the Supreme Court sifts through the Second Amendment case, McDonald vs. Chicago, anxious gun owners look to take on state and federal gun laws across the country. The decision made by the Highest Court will unsnap gun-ownership laws; and possibly prompt additional cases in addition to the more than 15 federal and state gun cases currently filed across the country.

The McDonald case was filed by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and the Illinois State Rifle Association (ILSFA) and Dave Workman of the SAF explained even though the National Rifle Association (NRA) was able to argue their position before the Supreme Court it has never been their case.

Dover Police Chief Jeffrey Horvath agreed, arguing that in situations where the state is the landlord, the state can make the rules.

If they want to set those rules, they should be able to set those rules, he said. They are providing the home, you dont have to live there...

...

The NRA has stated, and Im not necessarily an NRA proponent, guns dont commit crimes, people commit crimes, Topping said. But on the other side of that coin, if theres a handgun readily available in a [public] housing development, it may elevate a crime that wouldnt be elevated if the gun wasnt there.

From a law enforcement perspective, I think the less guns my officers have to deal with out there, the better off they are.

No More Gun Rights and No More Gun Control

I am constantly reading on the Net and in the media about so-called gun rights and gun control.

...

It is relatively easy for most people to hate an object. You can make up lies about an object, demonize an object and attempt to regulate and control objects. You can do so without fear of insulting the object, hurting its feelings, being sued by the object or facing any repercussions, its just a defenseless, soulless object.

When we replace gun rights with gun-owner rights, however, the issue becomes personal. Where many people and politicians [as opposed to people] find it easy and guilt-free to demonize guns as objects, it is far more difficult to for them to demonize a large segment of the population, gun-owners, as people.

Even with thousands of supporters of firearm rights expressing their opinion at IGOLD last Wednesday, anti-gun legislators continue to push for laws that would have little to no effect on actual criminals and only restrict the law-abiding gun owners of Illinois.

Thankfully, not all of the legislators have fallen for the myths of the gun control lobby. Many of them support the Second Amendment rights and have filed bills in support of your rights.

Please contact your state representative this week regarding the bills below. You can find contact info for your representative here. If youre not sure who your representative is, please find out at the Illinois State Board of Elections.

The Georgia General Assembly has before it two seemingly disparate bills, but enactment of either of them will have dire consequences for education in Georgia.

One is SB 308, just approved by committee, which would eliminate the current ban on firearms within 1,000 feet of a university campus.

The second, SB 386, would require that pay levels for schoolteachers will be based in part on results of yet another series of tests for students and in part on yet-undetermined factors, but not on the levels of education teachers themselves have attained to prepare themselves for the classroom.

A note on some of these pro-life, or "conservative," or "centrist" Democrats in the House...

Periodically I'll discuss with Cam the value of just how un-conservative a Republican you can stand, compared to a relatively-conservative Democrat. The NRA, for example, endorses plenty of Democrats, because they emphasize that they're a single-issue organization. They focus on gun rights; you could be a raving ... on all other issues, but they'll still back you. Howard Dean, for example, got an "A" rating from the NRA.

I understand the logic of that position. As a nonpartisan organization, it makes perfect sense.

Amazing, isnt it? According to these SPLC loons, millions of Americans who simply want the federal government to leave them alone and stop wasting so much of their money are one step removed from baby-killers like Timothy McVeigh.

Nice

In other words, feel free to protest the ongoing generational theft thats taking place in Washington D.C. just dont be surprised when somebody calls you a racist murderer for doing so.

Some politicians claim you have a right to health care. You dont.

Rights dont cost other people money.

You have a right to free speech. That doesnt require government (or me) to publish your autobiography.

You have a right to practice your religion. But the government wont build you a church.

You have a right to bear arms. Not a free gun.

In fact, you dont even have a right to food!

If everyone has a right to food, then we have no grounds for denying free food to every able-bodied, 25-year-old who simply doesnt feel like working. Food is their right!

Strauser entered a local business with a loaded handgun, which brought about the request for the proposed ordinance in the February board meeting. She stated that she had not broken any laws. "I am sorry if me displaying a firearm to keep from breaking a CCW law concerns someone. I believe the concerns should have been addressed, but they were not addressed appropriately."

Strauser stated she had the handgun on her because her life was threatened by a local man. She said he had not broken the law yet, but if she "waited around" he would attack her.
