PA: Open carry walk draws a big crowd in Brookville Pennsylvania

I want to tell you about a wonderful family event that took place in Brookville Pennsylvania yesterday.

It was called the Brookville Open Carry Walk and so many people showed up despite the cold that the police and fire department had to stop traffic for a time.

Notably absent were any counter protestors. Despite calls by the anti-gun group CeaseFirePA, not a single counter protestor showed up. I guess CeaseFirePAs 7 members were busy elsewhere.

According to event organizers Adam Smith and Angel Yount-Smith, the purpose of the event was to show that the media-backed stereotypes about gun owners are not correct. And I have to say mission accomplished!

340 Sheriffs Refuse To Enforce Unconstitutional Gun Control Laws

Including Sheriff John Cooke of Weld County, Colorado, 340 sheriffs have publicly stated they will not enforce gun laws they believe are unconstitutional.

In response to the passage of two new gun control bills in Colorado last week, Sheriff John Cooke told the Greeley Tribune that he "won't bother enforcing the laws."
One bill requires gun buyers to pay for their own background checks, a service that was previously free and now estimated to cost the buyer $10-$12 per purchase. The second bill puts a 15-round limit on magazines.
Cooke says of the new laws: "They're feel-good, knee-jerk reactions that are unenforceable."
Governor John Hickenlooper is expected to sign each bill into law this week.

Maketa said the proposed laws were hastily crafted and at least one would be unenforceable. A number of Colorado sheriffs are concerned the laws could lead to registration of gun owners, he said.

Maketa said his office keeps records of every concealed carry permit holder in the county as required by law, but he would never share it.

He said he would destroy the database if anyone tried to get their hands on it and would intervene if government agents started arresting county residents for exercising their constitutional rights.

Now, here comes the interesting part and to demonstrate that this has nothing to do with legality, but about disarmament. Wassell was released on his own recognizance, though he is charged with numerous felonies.

In other words, the court doesnt see Mr. Wassell as dangerous. They just want his guns, which is what this is about. They want a disarmed populace.

A chilling new perspective on the Sandy Hook attack that launched the current onslaught of gun control legislation from New England to Puget Sound suggests that mass murderer Adam Lanza planned the attack for very long time and picked an elementary school because he felt it was a point of least resistance, where he could rack up the greatest number of kills.

When the legislation to create New Hampshire's "stand your ground" law was debated in the spring and summer of 2011, the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police predicted that the bill would lead to "deadly encounters in public places." It has not. As with concealed carry laws, the predictions of "blood in the streets" have not borne out. Still, many legislators are determined to repeal the law, not yet two years old.

The availability of guns does not cause crimes. Owning a gun doesnt guarantee you will use it any more than owning a fire extinguisher guarantees you will use it. In John 18:11, after Peter cut off the ear of the servant of the High Priest with a sword he was not told to get rid of the sword but to put it back in the sheath. The Bible doesnt teach to turn the other cheek when it comes to protecting self and family.

Constitution Check: Can there be no exceptions to Second Amendment gun rights?

The Bill of Rights does not speak in terms of absolutes that is, rights without any exceptions. And the Supreme Court, in interpreting constitutional guarantees of rights, has said exactly that, repeatedly and even predictably. It may be that some defenders of Second Amendment gun rights would not accept as legitimate what the Supreme Court has said, but there is no denying where the court has stood, even on the Second Amendment.

The current law on the books only allows you that right in your home, apartment or place of business.

George Zimmerman's defense team on Monday asked Circuit Judge Debra Nelson to reconsider a request to question Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin's family, in a deposition.

At a hearing last month, Nelson rejected the Zimmerman attorneys' previous request for a deposition of Crump, who last March conducted an interview with the state's key "Witness 8," who says she was on the phone with the 17-year-old in the moments before his fatal encounter with Zimmerman.

The new motion is based on a recent disclosure that the witness falsely claimed she was hospitalized after the shooting. The defense now argues that her credibility is in question, so learning what Crump knows is all the more important.

Republicans who control the Arizona Senate pushed through a bill Monday allowing designated teachers, administrators or other employees in rural schools to carry a handgun and allowing retired police officers who work in schools statewide to carry guns.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Rich Crandall, of Mesa, was approved on 17-11 party-line vote over the objections of Democrats, who failed to persuade any Republicans to oppose the bill they believe will bring added risk to schools. Democrats instead argued for more trained school resource officers, added mental health treatment and more school counselors to help prevent school violence.

States like Illinois are notorious for their anti-gun agendas, while states like Texas are viewed as a sort of shooters paradise.

The young man in the photo is the 11-yr-old son of Shawn Moore. The gun is a .22 rifle, a copy of the AR-15, but a 22 caliber. The photo was posted on Facebook by a proud father. That Facebook posting apparently triggered an anonymous call to New Jerseys Department of Youth and Family Services (DYFS). On Friday night, March 15th, two representatives from the states social services office (along with four local police officers) came to the Moore home and demanded to see the familys firearms.

Bloomberg has not experienced an epiphany; these things happen slowly, but at least according to CNN yesterday, the co-founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns acknowledged, This year in America, 12,000 people will be killed with handguns. Four hundred people will be killed with assault weapons or high capacity magazines. So it is the vast bulk of - of the, uh, murders are done with handguns.

Well, thats not quite accurate. As this column reported, FBI crime data for 2011 the most recent year for which statistics are available handguns accounted for less than half of the total homicides.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it's not an individual right or that it's too much of a public safety hazard don't see the danger in the big picture. They're courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the constitution they don't like. Alan Dershowitz
