A disabled veteran in Florida who said he shot two homeless men in order to protect a pregnant woman will not be charged because he acted in self-defense, authorities said Wednesday.
Joshua Anderson stepped in during a fight between the men Tuesday night at a beach pier in Port St. Lucie, located along Florida's Atlantic coast. During the altercation, one of the men, later identified as Brett Jowers, allegedly pushed the pregnant girlfriend of the second man, Zachery Sly, to the ground, NBC affiliate WPTV reported. |

According to recent reports, a Dallas convenience store was the scene of a robbery attempt and shooting earlier this month.
The late-night incident occurred at an Exxon station when an unidentified store manager reported seeing a pair of men enter and approach an employee. As one of the subjects assaulted the worker, the manager stated that the other reached inside his jacket in a possible attempt to retrieve a weapon.
At that point, the armed manager grabbed his firearm and shot at both of the 30-year-old men hitting both targets. Both were taken from the scene to a local hospital for treatment. One suspect was shot in the arm, and the other took a bullet to his face. |

An Arizona House committee passed a bill Thursday that would prohibit state agencies and employees from enforcing any new federal "act, law, order, rule or regulation" restricting gun ownership or ammunition.
Senate Bill 1330 prevents the federal government from forcing Arizona to use resources and manpower to enforce federal laws, said state Senator Kelli Ward (R-Lake Havasu City), who introduced the legislation. It does not, however, block state agencies from "voluntarily" entering into agreements. |

The Obama administrations recent unilateral effort to ban M855 ammunition posed a challenge to Nebraskans Second Amendment rights and undermined the freedoms upon which our nation was built. Thankfully, the American people made their voices heard and put a stop to this deeply disturbing executive overreach.
Last week, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced it will not proceed with a ban on M855 ammunition. The decision comes less than a month after the agency first quietly proposed the ban.

Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal said Thursday its unlikely the Senate will consider a piece of legislation passed by the House that would make broad changes to the states gun laws.
He said the Senate has brought two bills a more broad bill that closely mirrors the House version, and a narrower bill that legalizes suppressors that are still works in progress and could address some important issues.
There are people in law enforcement who have suggested they see things that could be significant improvements in our current law from a law enforcement perspective things like training for people that are getting concealed carry permits and a uniform database, uniform concealed carry licenses, he said. |

"Our representative is certainly not a Democrat," said Andy Janecek on the Leon County Democratic Party Facebook page. "She has shown us here today she cares little about the wishes of the students she represents."
It shouldn't be unexpected that expressing your views on the Internet will bring on a wave of backlash, but what Rehwinkel Vasilinda said in the thread, and later in committee before she voted on the bill, was unexpected.
The fourth-term lawmaker told a crowded committee room how she once fended off an attacker by using a gun her dad had given her. |

With the National Rifle Association bringing 75,000 people to Nashville for its April 10-12 convention, the timing is seemingly right for the General Assembly to impress by passing a bevy of gun bills.
But so far this session, passing firearms-related legislation has been like putting the wrong size bullets in a pistol. Even if it fires the first time, its probably going to jam on the second round. |

Texas would allow people to carry concealed handguns on college campuses under a measure given preliminary approval by the state Senate, just a day after it passed a proposal allowing open carry of guns almost anywhere in the state.
Panned by most student groups and key leaders of Texas' top colleges including a retired Navy SEAL who led the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden before becoming the University of Texas' new chancellor the "campus carry" bill nonetheless was strongly supported by gun rights groups and the Senate's Republican majority. It sailed through on a 20-11 party line vote. |

Gun rights advocates are seeking support on Beacon Hill to legalize stun guns, following a ruling by the states highest court that upholds a ban on the non-lethal weapons.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Judicial Court ruled against a woman, Jaime Caetano, who was arrested with a stun gun in 2011. She told police she needed it for self-defense against an abusive ex-boyfriend. |

Core activists with the Evergreen States fledgling American Rights Movement (ARM) are strongly disputing a column in yesterdays Spokane Spokesman Review about the way an onerous piece of legislation was defeated, and about their alleged unwillingness to work with the sponsor of that bill, Rep. Laurie Jinkins, a Tacoma Democrat.
By no small coincidence, this flap erupted 24 hours after Rasmussen Reports issued a report on What America Thinks about Gun Control, that said more than half of likely voters continue to oppose stricter gun control laws. The Rasmussen piece also noted that 74 percent of Americans believe the Constitution affirms an individual right to keep and bear arms. |

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Friday, March 13, to pass legislation intended to keep firearms out of the hands of convicted felons and people with a court-identified mental illness.
The bill would prohibit people with convictions for certain violent crimes from owning firearms. It would also require that people with mental illness who are found by a court to be a danger to themselves or others be reported to an FBI database.
Gun Sense Vermont Executive Director Ann Braden said the bills passage out of committee was an historic victory for any firearms legislation to see this kind of movement despite opposition from the gun lobby.

Today Idaho Republican Senator Mike Crapo, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, will offer an amendment to the budget bill demanding that Operation Choke Point be defunded.
Its a move designed not only to put more pressure on Operation Choke Point, which continues to harass and starve legitimate businesses that the Obama administration considers high risk and politically incorrect (i.e., gun and ammunition dealers, tobacconists, porn shops, etc.) but also to smoke out the positions of those on the committee about the program. |

A bill to allow concealed handguns on college campuses got the go-ahead from the Texas Senate in a vote along party lines Wednesday.
The smoke barely clear from Monday's debate over a bill to allow handguns to be carried openly in public, senators voted 20-11 to give preliminary approval to the so-called "campus carry" Senate Bill 11.
"Our CHL holders are the most law-abiding members of our society," State Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury), the bill's author, said at the beginning of Wednesday's debate. |

Representative Patrick McHenry (R-NC) has introduced the Ammunition and Firearms Protection Act.
This Act will protect our Second Amendment Rights from being destroyed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE). Following massive public scrutiny because of Obamas plan to use executive action to ban .556 M855 ammo used by sportsmen and hunters in their AR-15s, the anti-gun liberals temporarily shelved the proposal. |

There are nearly as many guns as there are people in the United Statesup to 310 million held by private citizens alone. Even without the Second Amendment, guns arent going away. So is it possible, in a country with just as many guns as people, to decrease this kind of violence?

SB 347 is a gun law reform bill that removes restrictions on carrying weapons from people who can legally own guns. It does *not* eliminate the West Virginia concealed carry permit. It makes the permit optional while in West Virginia. It has become the focus of national attention, as phone banks paid for with former New York Mayor Michael Bloombergs money vie with grass roots activists in West Virginia for Governor Tomblins attention.
...
Update: The budget session ended an hour ago, on 19 March. Governor Tomblin now has until 4 April to sign, veto, or ignore SB 347, the constitutional carry bill.
