Whether its for personal protection or out of pandemic boredom, interest in firearms has shot up dramatically in the past year.
According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minnesota sheriffs issued more firearms permits with 96,554 in 2020 than in any other year since the states Personal Protection Act was enacted in 2003. |

Youre sitting in your car, in your driveway. It is after two in the afternoon and you missed lunch. You stop to eat lunch in your car when two strangers walk up behind you. They have a gun and order you out of your car.
You own a handgun. Youre armed. The story isnt clear if you shoot your attackers from inside your car or if you opened the door and started to get out when you defend yourself. Your attackers drop their gun and turn away. You back out of your driveway, but run into the ditch across the road. Your attackers car is running. You jump in their car, drive a few blocks, and then stop to call the police.

Proposed by Kansas Attorney General, Derek Schmidt, House Bill 2058 seeks to recognize all out-of-state concealed carry permits, and allow those who have been licensed to carry a firearm for self-defense, to do so lawfully in Kansas. This legislation recognizes that visitors to Kansas should not be left defenseless simply by crossing a state line. As amended, HB 2058 allows individuals who are 18 to 20 years of age to apply for a Kansas concealed carry permit, and also authorizes the attorney general to issue an alternative license to carry a concealed handgun, to qualified applicants during a declared state of disaster or emergency. |

Republicans in the Iowa Legislature are again working to rewrite the states gun laws with a bill that would allow people to buy firearms and carry a concealed handgun without first obtaining a state permit.
The measure continues moves to lessen restrictions on gun ownership that have been a priority for Republicans since the party took control of state government in 2017. |

A proposed law to make Kootenai County in northern Idaho a Second Amendment Sanctuary gained no traction among county lawmakers earlier this week, with one commissioner dismissing the effort as a right-wing political stunt.
Commissioner Leslie Duncan sponsored the legislation, which called for a County Code amendment to recognize any federal or state law or regulation that clearly infringes upon an individuals constitutional right to keep and bear arms as invalid in Kootenai County. Listed examples included confiscation and the registration of firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition. |

Kinzinger, therefore, may be trying to shift left and be a more moderate Republican and part of that involves selling out law-abiding gun owners to the point of going along with some (if not all) of an anti-Second Amendment agenda. Part of it is the fact that Second Amendment supporters have been losing ground in the suburbs, particularly since the Columbine shooting.
But Kinzinger could have made a choice to stand for the Second Amendment and make his case to his voters. After all, Chicago is a very nearby and very obvious failure of gun control laws when it comes to reducing violence, especially with the very onerous burdens on law-abiding citizens. In addition, there are plenty of federal laws that could make a difference. |

Yesterday, the New Hampshire Senate held a floor vote on pro-gun legislation that fixes the handgun purchase process in the Granite State. Thanks to your strong support, this bill passed and will advance to the Senate Finance Committee for review this session.
Senate Bill 141 resolves New Hampshires longstanding problem with delays during handgun purchases, by abolishing the state gun line system that the State Police currently use for handgun purchases. Instead, the process for purchasing a handgun will now mirror buying a long gun, which goes through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). |

This (HR 8) is another step in the march to strip Americans of their guaranteed Second Amendment rights, and it will not make our communities safer.- Rep. Michael Cloud, Facebook, March 10, 2021
Rep. Cloud, we should all want to control the misuse of firearms to make our communities safer. And, in fact, the majority of Americans clearly want something tangible done by Congress. However, your legislative efforts have been aimed at doing exactly the opposite, expanding so-called gun rights via your Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act. |

The House Judiciary Committee passed a bill Friday morning aimed at protecting the state from federal gun control overreach, but law enforcement expressed worries that the bill could hamper task force efforts to fight crime.
HB 2694 is called the Second Amendment Preservation Act. It says no state agency, political subdivision or an employee of either of those acting in an official capacity may "knowingly and willingly participate in any way in the enforcement of any federal act, law, order, rule, or regulation regarding a firearm, firearm accessory, or ammunition if the act, law, order, rule, or regulation does not exist under the laws of this state." |

On Wednesday, we had a hurried and reckless hearing on AB286 which restricts law abiding CCW holders in Nevada from defending themselves and their families, making our communities less safe. We are working with every Second Amendment advocacy group and conservative leaders to stop this repeated pattern of the rushed committee hearing and last-minute votes with as little public scrutiny or objective vetting as possible. Legislative Democrats are notorious for doing whatever it takes to get there way. This must stop, and protecting our fundamental rights needs to be our focus. |

Contrary to what Gen Z shooters might think, traditionally styled lever-action rifles are not just relics or a way to get your cowboy fix. Theyre real deal hunting rifles honored and appreciated by those who hunt with their feet as opposed to feet-per-second. Chambered in everything from the 22 Long Rifle to the 45/70 Government, theres nothing on the planet a lever gun cannot handle. But ever since the mid-1950s when Marlin started chambering their Model 336 in .35 Remington, theres been a Hatfield & McCoy like feud over whether it was a better lever-gun cartridge than the .30/30 Winchester. |

The Shawano County Board will welcome in the community and take a vote on becoming a sanctuary county for the 2nd Amendment, or the Right to Bear Arms.
The issue has been a topic of discussion since last year when other counties in the state did the same. The resolution was brought before the Public Safety Committee last year, and has been on hold due to COVID-19.
It has been a whole year now, so it is time to make a move, County Board Chairman Tom Kautza said. It did pass through a committee and was moved to the full board so I always felt it deserves its day in front of the board. |

The regulation of owning and carrying firearms has been a hotly contested issue since Florida being founded as a US territory in 1821. Why was and is it such an issue? Simple.
Chattel Slavery.
Florida was founded as a slave territory and its entire economy functioned through this barbaric practice. You cant have a slave society if the very people you are putting in chains have access to arms. So, laws were put in place to create a system that would prevent their escape and ability to rise up against those that oppressed them. |

Would a waiting period have prevented this horrific crime? Its impossible to know for sure. But heres one observation made after the suspects arrest that ought to be remembered: When asked about the shooters possible motivation, Cherokee County Sheriffs Capt. Jay Baker said the young man was having a really bad day. That suggests Mr. Long was acting impulsively and argues for putting reasonable restrictions on gun sales to address this very possibility. How often do domestic arguments escalate to the point where a quick trip to the local gun store is suddenly a real possibility? How about for those contemplating suicide? |

Under the bill, Iowans would be able to acquire a firearm from a federally registered dealer by either presenting a valid permit or by completing a national instant background check every time they buy a firearm. They could also acquire the weapon through a private seller, who would face a class D felony instead of an aggravated misdemeanor (as under the current law) if the purchaser is not eligible to carry a firearm. A class D felony carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, have to pay a fine of $750 to $7,500, and lose their right to carry or purchase a firearm ever again, Holt said. |

The City of Columbus has postponed its hearing on proposed gun control legislation originally planned for March 23rd. The most egregious of the proposals is to ban magazines with a capacity over an arbitrary number of cartridges, which will undoubtedly ban most standard-capacity magazines in use by law-abiding citizens. Of course, any such legislation they might pass will be in violation of Ohios preemption law, which prevents localities from making their own gun control ordinances. This ensures that citizens across the whole state have access to the same Second Amendment rights, and prevents the creation of a confusing patchwork of laws that is hard to understand and obey. |

The South Carolina legislature has two prominent bills in progress which would restore significant Second Amendment rights in the state. South Carolina is one of only five states which ban the open carry of handguns in most public spaces. The other four states are California, Florida, Illinois, and New York. Open carry in South Carolina has a majority of sponsors in the House, can likely pass the Senate, and would likely be signed by Governor Henry McMaster. A spokesperson for Governor McMaster has said he would proudly sign the Constitutional Carry Bill. It seems likely he would sign the open carry bill. |
