Apparently, the departure of Dan Rather did nothing to improve the quality of reporting or objectivity at CBS. Behold the latest anti-freedom ignorance...
"Fifteen years ago, Osama bin Laden sent one of his operatives to the United States to buy and bring back two-dozen .50-caliber rifles, a gun that can kill someone from over a mile away and even bring down an airplane."
"In spite of all the recent efforts to curb terrorism, bin Laden could do the same thing today, because buying and shipping the worlds most powerful sniper rifle is not as difficult as you might think." |

From GUNS Magazine, April 2005 issue:
"Direct contact should be avoided whenever possible ... If unavoidable, the victim should adopt a state of active passivity ... be careful what you say or do and give up valuables without a struggle. This allows the victim to take charge of the situation ... By doing nothing there is no chance of inadvertently initiating violence by saying something such as 'Please don't hurt me.'" |

"About 50 Oakland community activists Saturday honored Patrick McCullough, a man whose crusade against drug dealers on 59th Street has become a controversial symbol for broader citizen efforts to rid the city of its dangerous reputation." ...
"The 49-year-old made headlines last month after he shot and wounded a 16- year-old neighbor who was allegedly part of a group attacking McCullough in his front yard in a North Oakland block plagued by drug dealing."
"Last week prosecutors determined that McCullough, whom police had arrested on suspicion of felony assault after he wounded Melvin McHenry, appeared to have acted in self-defense. They also decided not to try to file charges against Melvin, whose family and attorney insist that McCullough provoked the incident." |

"A 12-year-old boy in our community recently brought a loaded gun to school, an incident that has become all too common throughout this nation."

"Regarding Wednesday's article titled "Barrios for ban on 'killer' weapons" ...: Why would you print a story like this? The facts are all wrong. A FN 5.7 pistol is not an assault rifle no matter which state you live in. It's a pistol that shoots an expensive and usually hard to find round. And when the story talked about .50 rifles, it said that it can be shot at scary things like airplanes and trains. Every gun can be fired at those things. Are you going to use that to ban every gun from the most powerful civilian round all the way down? After a while you will be saying that a .22 LR can hit a plane. It's so stupid. You know nothing about guns and shouldn't speak about guns until you have a clear view of what's going on." |

"Seattle denizen John DePalma was a little from Missouri on this business of a muzzle-loading shotgun for a South Dakota Merriams. "The recent spike in homicides and the continued slaughter of innocents such as Wander DeJesus have led city officials to wonder whether there is a better way to prevent some of these shootings. One way is to make it harder for gun traffickers to get guns."
"One considered particularly effective is a law to limit handgun purchases to one a month. This prevents straw buyers from going into gun stores, stocking up on 30 or 40 guns at a pop, then selling them on the street."

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our Founding Fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the second amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of the country. For that reason I believe the second amendment will always be important. --JOHN F. KENNEDY |
