"In a dramatic, almost wacky turn of events, the Senate overwhelmingly rejected S. 1805, a bill earlier this month that would have immunized firearm manufacturers and dealers against many forms of tort liability. The bill's own sponsors turned against it, as did its original NRA supporters, after opponents succeeded in adding two "poison pill" amendments one extending a soon-to-expire ban on so-called assault weapons, and another closing an alleged 'gun-show loophole' for unregulated sales of firearms."
"Pro-gun and anti-gun groups seemed equally disappointed. The NRA had lobbied long and hard for tort immunity, and lost. Gun-control advocates dearly wanted an assault-weapons extension and new gun-show rules; they lost too. Call us contrarians, but we're delighted on both counts. To us, this is a win-win situation a win for the Constitution and a win for law-abiding gun owners everywhere." |

"As any thinking American knows, nothing has done more to destroy Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches and seizures than the War on Drugs. ..."
"As the story goes, if you live a good clean life, obey the law, pay your taxes, and dont say, write, or read too many bad things about the government, you should have no need to fear that your liberties will be violated. Refusing police requests to search your person or property, running from authorities or through airports, withdrawing or depositing large amounts of money, purchasing or borrowing 'subversive' books, nowadays suggests evil intentions. ..."
"Pretending that an abuse of liberties is legal so long as its directed at 'bad' people is a recipe for disaster and only leads to the complete destruction of all liberties. As Tim Freeman said, 'When they took the fourth amendment, I was silent because I dont deal drugs. When they took the sixth amendment, I kept quiet because I know Im innocent. When they took the second amendment, I said nothing because I dont own a gun. Now theyve come for the first amendment and I cant say anything at all.' " |

"Last week, Kerry targeted another Bush state from 2000: West Virginia."
"Bush won West Virginia by 6.3 percentage points, although Democratic strategists say Gore lost the state by failing to address GOP-led charges that he favored strict gun control measures."
"West Virginia was in the spotlight last week when Kerry traveled to the state and criticized the president for 'shortchanging' veterans on health care while cutting taxes for the wealthy."

"The issue split the Nevada Supreme Court, which sided with law enforcement on a 4-3 vote in a case in which the man, Larry Hiibel, was convicted of a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and fined $250."
"Hiibel, 59, said he believes he was exercising his constitutional rights when he refused a sheriffs deputys 11 demands for identification."

"Democrats are still steamed about losing West Virginia in 2000 and want to return it to its Democratic roots. Bush's on-again, off-again steel tariffs could cost him, but even Democrats say the issue has more potency in neighboring Pennsylvania and Ohio. What Kerry has to worry about is a reaction to his support for gun control, which badly hurt Gore in 2000. Kerry has played down the issue, but the National Rifle Association plans to spend heavily in the state." |

"The woman knocked, and when the door didnt open, the two men kicked in the door, Groves said."
"At least one of them was armed with a handgun, he said." "The robbers tied up the occupant, a man in his 20s, and left him in a back room while the three ransacked the apartment, police said."

"An arrest in Utah last week of a 28-year-old woman who allegedly committed murder by refusing to undergo a C-section represents a shocking abuse of state authority and a dangerous disregard for medical ethics."
"In this case, prosecutors claim that Melissa Rowland a woman pregnant with twins rejected the advice of her physicians to have a caesarean section, allegedly resulting in the stillbirth of one of the twins. "Babies represent, more than anything else, hope. And there is, indeed, some small hope. More and more people are demanding reform in their public schools, are opting for private or charter schools, or are homeschooling their children. Many people are beginning to overtly express resentment of a government that's become as much 'Big Mother' as 'Big Brother.' Grassroots organizations are springing up overnight and across the country to address matters ranging from the repeal of the PATRIOT Act, to the shutdown of MATRIX, to the demand for the return of such unalienable rights as those of genuinely free speech or self defense."

"Libertarians posit that you own yourself and it's as simple as that. Anything else is contradictory and hypocritical. You own your body and the labor it produces. You own your time and how you choose to spend it. You own your decisions. You and you alone. You also own the consequences of them, at least you should. Your ownership ends at the tip of your nose, as does your neighbors responsibility for your well-being, and yours for his. We certainly believe in being good neighbors, respectful neighbors, but we don't accept that the world owes us a living. That is for us to eke out from the dust of the earth just like every human being from the dawn of time. We believe in the Golden Rule, and for some of us that might mean living in isolation in hopes not to be bothered. For most of us though, that means contributing to society, respecting our fellow man, being generous and kind, charitable, of our own accord, with the knowledge that someday we may be in need, and it is comforting, a form of insurance if you will, to work toward a society that lends a helping hand. But never once would we demand our neighbor provide for us at gunpoint should that day arrive. Charity under duress is not charity. We call it theft, and we don't like it." |

"Diaz, in middle age, has become a serious Jew and a major figure in the effort to stop the flood of deadly weapons engulfing the nation..."
The whole process of considering conversion to Judaism involves thinking about leading an ethical life, about the meaning and consequences of what you do... It means everything from what you eat to how you treat fellow human beings.
------- It's abhorrent that Tom Diaz is using Judaism as an excuse to disarm the citizens of America. Numerous rabbis confirm that the sanctity of life is affirmed numerous times in the Talmud (a 70-volume code of Jewish law). Gun control subverts and violates Jewish law. The right to self defense is mandated by Jewish law, and, consequently, so is the right to use the most effective tools available to defend one's life.
Diaz's attempts to use religion as a rationale for disarmament and tyranny are appalling. |

"Liberal Jews are for gun control; yet who is controlling the guns? The State. Id rather not contribute to the States monopoly on violence. If youre really worried that 'it could happen here' then arm yourselves and stand up not only for Jews, but whoever the State is oppressing. Blacks. Latinos. Immigrants. Moslems. But no, we expect the 'police' to protect us because, over the years, we have become 'official whites.' The logic goes that Israel exists just in case something WERE to happen. Ive actually had this argument, ridiculous as it seems, on several occasions with various people. The assumption is, I imagine, that if Jews were to become old-fashioned Diaspora Jews here, in America, that is, perceived enemies of the state, Israel would rescue them. Now, I really cant imagine how Israel, powerful as it seems compared to Palestinians armed with rifles and grenades, is going to take on the United States and 'rescue' a bunch of cowering liberal Jews that Israelis themselves despise. Not to mention that if the U.S. were to 'turn' on the Jews, the annual three or more billion dollars of 'aid' to Israel would not be forthcoming. And their military as well as their economy would collapse. Theyd have a whole lot more to worry about than 'rescuing' 5 million American Jews (and where, pray tell, would they put us?). The issue of gun-ownership is taboo in the 'progressive community.' But if the Jews in Europe had been armed in 1940, Hitler would have had a hard time fighting war on two fronts as well as an internal war against armed Jews. Imagine 100 Warsaw uprisings. ..." |

Eventually, mistakes were acknowledged and corrected. This time Bush tells us the war is endless. QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
For, in principle, there is no difference between a law prohibiting the wearing of concealed arms, and a law forbidding the wearing such as are exposed; and if the former be unconstitutional, the latter must be so likewise. But it should not be forgotten, that it is not only a part of the right that is secured by the constitution; it is the right entire and complete, as it existed at the adoption of the constitution; and if any portion of that right be impaired, immaterial how small the part may be, and immaterial the order of time at which it be done, it is equally forbidden by the constitution. [Bliss vs. Commonwealth, 12 Ky. (2 Litt.) 90, at 92, and 93, 13 Am. Dec. 251 (1822) |
