"When the Communists take over will they let us keep our guns?"

"Guest workers programs, immigration amnesties, sanctuary cities, and overlooking immigration violations -- including violations committed by American business owners who knowingly hire illegal aliens -- are all indications of a merger between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Such a merger has been implied in the Free Trade of the Americas Act and in the Council on Foreign Relations' report entitled, 'Building a North American Community'. The palatable and therefore politically correct term for this merger is 'open borders.'" ...

"Yet her agenda is the basic platform on which Kansas Democrats will run in November 2006 and in the next presidential election year, 2008."

"'While every law-abiding Kansan has a right to keep and bear arms, hidden weapons make it harder for law enforcement to do its job, and they make Kansas' workplaces less safe' she wrote in her veto message. FULL TEXT BELOW:

A sniper scare in Pittsburgh is over.

Police say a 9-1-1 caller who thought a man was on a downtown rooftop with a rifle was actually looking at a man with a pellet gun who was looking for pigeons.

Several downtown streets were cordoned off while police SWAT teams fanned out to search nearby buildings.

Even the mayor was on the scene in a bulletproof vest, while police chased down witness reports of sightings, and finally closed in on a building in the city's theater district.

At the end of a tense hour and 45 minutes, the man's supervisor explained to officers that the man sometimes brings his pellet gun to work with him, to shoot nuisance pigeons.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

In his letter ["The right to bear arms, the right to self-defense: Essential," March 7], Alan Rose states, "Several years after World War II, Japanese Adm. Yamamoto admitted to U.S. Adm. Chester Nimitz that our Second Amendment played a significant part in Japan's decision to not invade the West Coast of the U.S."

Adm. Yamamoto died April 18, 1943, well before the end of World War II.

Aside from the Second Amendment, the other common thread I see through this discussion is the attempt by many writers to present personal beliefs as fact, ignore real facts, or just plain make them up.

This is true on all sides of the issue, as both sides accuse each other of writing fiction or propaganda when each side is guilty.

"It is important to remember that there are rules about statutory interpretation. In construing a statute, courts look first to the plain meaning of the text itself. If the language of a statute has a plain and unambiguous meaning, the court's inquiry ends right there."
