Things are different now. The year of the Covid19 pandemic unleased civil unrest on a scale not witnessed in the United States since the 1960s. Make no mistake, there is an insurgency within our nation that has been biding its time, and the time is upon us. While riots and violent demonstrations have been mostly confined to urban centers so far, there had been movement into suburbs as well, and we must consider the possibility of this trend expanding. In this new normal, a home defense plan must also take into consideration large groups of violent people invading the neighborhood and perhaps threatening your own residence.

In 1877, Smith & Wesson introduced .38 S&W (9x20mm) ammunition designed for its First Model, a single action, spur-triggered revolver. Introduced in the 1850s, metallic cartridge revolvers became an overnight success. Most were either large caliber guns or pocket pistols that used .22 or .32 short loads. The .38 was able to offer more power than the previous rounds, making it more appealing to the military as well as the general public.

The House is set to vote next week on House Bill 477, to establish a lifetime carry permit in Alabama. The sheriffs are still trying to do everything they can to deny this choice to citizens, or at least make it unattainable. Unfortunately, they previously convinced the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee to increase the cost from $200 to an outrageous $500. |

The Republican-controlled state Senate gave HF 756 a 31-17 thumbs up, largely along party lines, just days after a similar 60-37 vote in the state House. It now heads to the desk of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, a Republican who has a history of signing pro-gun legislation.

In the summer of 1787, close by the steamy Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, fifty-five perspiring men, unpaid volunteers representing themselves, their families, and communities, worked in a room with the windows closed so they could speak freely. They were laboring to write a constitution for the now united, no longer rebellious colonies, that were independent states with their own stamps and virtually worthless paper money. They wanted a more perfect union than that which the defective Articles of Confederation had produced. They were gentlemen farmers, merchants, lawyers, some highly educated. These men could pick up a text in classical Greek and sight-translate it into Latin. |
