"U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is urging Customs and Border Protection to assess the threat to border patrol agents should the easily available .50 caliber sniper rifle find its way into the hands of Mexican drug smugglers or other criminals."

The threat posed by the easy availability of the .50-caliber sniper rifle could endanger our border patrol agents and hinder our ability to control our borders... Given the range and lethality of these weapons, how would the Border Patrol carry out its mission should these weapons be used by criminals, smugglers and human traffickers shooting across the border?

"A simple clause in the Gun-Free School Zones Act, turned millions of Americans into accidental felons, says Reason magazine. In 1995, the Supreme Court overturned the law -- which made it a federal crime to possess a gun within 1,000 feet of a school -- saying the law exceeded Congress' power to regulate interstate commerce. To counteract the ruling, Congress simply placed a requirement that the firearm must have traveled in interstate commerce. Now millions of Americans have a criminal record."

"Some people desperately want to believe that the Constitution gives them carte blanche regarding gun ownership, while at the same time pretending that this somehow makes them part of a 'well-regulated militia' ['Confused about Second Amendment? Blame Congress,' March 6]."

"True, we once had a civilian militia and it did win a couple of battles, but gun owners then had just as much repugnance for government regulation as they do now, and the idea was quickly recognized as a failure and was abandoned."

"If it had been a success, our country would be defended by a 'well-regulated militia' today, wouldn't we?"

"I believe that honest, law-abiding citizens should pretty much be able to do anything so long as it doesnt impact on their neighbors." -- Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, voted for concealed carry.

In looking at the other states, there has not been a significant problem with concealed carry. In fact, the overall crime rates, for violent crimes, have reduced in a majority of those states, and I would have to believe that is a contributing factor to that. -- Rep. Lee Tafanelli, R-Ozawkie, voted for concealed carry.

For those people who want that permission to carry, it is a big deal. Im happy to provide them that freedom today. -- Rep. Anthony Brown, R-Eudora, voted for concealed carry. (KABA Note: Is this guy even aware of how ignorant and arrogant he sounds?)

I dont think putting more guns in the hands of people in public places is going to lead to greater public safety. -- Rep. Paul Davis, D-Lawrence, voted against concealed carry.

"Dave Lawson is familiar with guns. He's run the Shooter's Choice Firearms training facility for 11 years; before that, he worked as a Delaware State Trooper. For that reason, he has strong feelings about a new bill in the Delaware House. The proposal would limit how much say a judge has in approving concealed weapon permits."

"Right now, after someone has met the predetermined requirements, it's up to a judges personal discrection [sic] to decide if the permit should be issued."

"Lawson says that change is fine, since those who apply for firearms are those that are already obeying the law."

"The devil is in the details."

"The technical details in the case of the Easton police shooting are tedious, but we must grapple with them before deciding whether a state investigation of that shooting might be a whitewash."

"The probe ended with a statewide grand jury report and a press conference by state Attorney General Tom Corbett. Both said one police officer was negligent when he shot and killed another officer inside police headquarters last year, but that '[did] not rise to the level of criminal negligence or recklessness.' So no criminal charges will be filed."
