Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has introduced bill H.R.4034 in the House, yet another gun show regulation proposal. This one would require background checks through licensed gun dealers for all gun sales, require show promoters to be registered and licensed, require vendors to be identified and reported, and even requires non-gun dealers to report information about the guns they sold (but not the name of the purchaser).

Penalties for violations range from 2 to 5 years in prison.

"A federal grand jury in Brooklyn indicted Charles Schwarz on Monday on perjury charges for allegedly lying when he testified that he played no role in the torture of Abner Louima."

"The indictment signals that federal prosecutors are not giving up on their case against Schwarz, whose two convictions in the Aug. 9, 1997, attack on Louima were thrown out on appeal. Schwarz, who was freed on $1 million bail earlier this month, will face two counts of perjury, prosecutors said."

The EU embargo (which I'd never heard of before, how about you?) was restricting handguns which are almost exclusively defensive. At the same time the EU was pouring tens of millions in the the PLO where it's clear it was going for HEAVY arms.

Do you want to depend on any NATO/ EU/ FED's/ State to keep you or your family alive? What happens if the decision is made for you and you now qualify under the 'three-fifths of a person' (or any other status, such as your church is not BATF approved) rule?

"A sweeping new campaign-finance law will confront the Supreme Court with restrictions that are constitutional only if the high court rules that some speech is not speech. The court has long ruled that government limits on political contributions do not infringe on First Amendment rights to free speech."

"THE WAR ON TERRORISM IS ON ITS WAY TO CLAIMING ANOTHER VICTIM personal freedom. Since September 11 the American people, especially those who chose or are forced to fly, have put up with inconvenience, harassment, and abuse in the name of safety from terrorists. Unfortunately its become worse than I predicted."

"On September 11 I wrote, "As the concern for security mounts we may find that the civil liberties upon which this country was founded will be sacrificed on the altar of safety."

"Tonight's History Channel presentation of "The Magnum" is designed to trace the genealogy of what "Dirty Harry" Callahan called "the most powerful handgun in the world."

"That, in itself, is unlikely to force many to deviate from their normal viewing habits. Most local gun aficionados already know very excited about being around the guns and actually being able to film a bullet going down range; they thought that was pretty cool."

"Making schools safe sounds like a simple goal, but doing it touches on a wide variety of complex issues: Would stricter gun control laws be an effective deterrent? How much blame should parents bear for children who slide off the track? Are our educators themselves educated enough to prevent such crises and handle them properly if they occur? And to what degree has violence in public schools inspired families to practice home schooling?"

"It packs a larger wallop than a 97mph fastball and the impact can resemble a punch from a heavyweight boxer. But the compressed beanbag filled with lead pellets fired from a 12-gauge shotgun is more suited for less-lethal munitions by police officers seeking to resolve a situation - such as hostage and barricades and people violently resisting arrest -without resorting to deadly force."

A looooong transcript, the gun conversation is about halfway down the page.

"Anything you're going to talk to me about -- guns, I want to say it's after Columbine. Children were killed, and I am a mother, and I was devastated by that fact. That's number one. And I'm not excusing my behavior, and I stand by what I said, although some of my comments in retrospect seem a little outlandish."

She also admits to having armed personal guards. Such a nice lady don't you think? [/sarcasm]
