City prosecutors declined to charge a 39-year-old Washington man with attempted murder because it appears the man was acting in self-defense.

A fight at a Waikiki hotel Tuesday sent a 38-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, police and paramedics said.

The evidence supports the suspect's statement that he was defending himself, the prosecutor's office said.

Found to have unfairly restricted concealed-weapons possession, San Diego must soon defend its law before an 11-judge panel of the en banc 9th Circuit.

The rehearing order Thursday sets aside a February 2014 decision from a three-judge panel that San Diego's ban violates the Second Amendment.

A safety advocate that intervened in the case on behalf of San Diego applauded the development.

Unless someone starts to waive their gun in the air or jokingly shoots blanks, eighth-grader Isaac Richardson doesnt see a problem with gun owners openly carrying firearms in schools.

In fact, he is in full support of the Second Amendment and everything it stands for.

Peoples Second Amendment right shouldnt be taken away from them, said Richardson, who attends Parker Middle School.

While there are many gun advocates out there who would agree with Richardson, there are still many who believe guns have no business in a gun-free zone.

The House voted down a bill 44-56 Friday that opponents said elevated gun rights above all other rights.

Rep. Matthew Monforton, R-Bozeman, called his House Bill 598 the "Gun Owners Access to Justice Act" and said it would invigorate Montanans' right to keep and bear arms."

Through the bill, if someone filed a suit against the state because he or she thought his or her Second Amendment rights were infringed upon by the state and won the case, the state would be on the hook for the legal fees of both parties.

With the Senate focused on the 2016 budget, Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) has proposed an amendment that would ban federally mandated gun control.

Lees amendment would ban any future gun control from lawmakers that fails to garner two-thirds of senators in support. It would also ban regulations issued by agencies like the ATF.

According to The Hill, Senators David Ritter (R-La) and James Inhofe (R-Okla) have also introduced their own amendment. More narrowly drawn, theirs focuses on the ATF by prohibiting that agency from attempting to ban bullets that are primarily used by hunters and sportsmen.

Imagine what it would be like to live in a state where people didnt need a government-issued permit to carry a firearm.

Would there be shootouts on the street? Gun crime rates soaring? Danger lurking around every corner?

Or would it be like every other day here in Maine where no permit is required to carry a firearm that is openly displayed, and gun crime rates are far below the national average.

Allowing guns on college campuses and in K-12 schools is firing up Floridians, but more than half of them say they oppose measures that would make carrying concealed weapons on school campuses legal, according to a new poll.

Two proposals currently making their way through the Florida Legislature would make it legal to carry guns on school grounds. One would make it legal for students aged 21 and up with concealed carry permits to have their weapons on campus, and the other would allow for "school safety designees" to bring guns on K-12 campuses in order to protect against violent crimes.

The Senate passed the measure last month, but the House made a technical change in committee that senators must review. The Senate signed off, 31-8, about two hours after the Houses vote.

Ohio is not one of 10 states that have proposed bills that would allow students to carry a concealed weapon on campus but there is debate over whether it should be and some argue that doing so could help prevent sexual assaults.

So far in 2015, 10 states have proposed bills that would allow students who are licensed to carry a concealed weapon, to do so on their college campus. Those states are Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Nevada. Bills allowing for guns on campus are already gaining significant ground in states like Florida and Texas.

Women in Mississippi may soon be better armed than men, unless men start carrying man-bags.

The House on Friday passed one of the first House-Senate conference reports, or final agreements, filed this session. Senate Bill 2394, which originally only reduced fees for concealed carry permits, in its final version includes language to allow concealed carry of a gun in "a purse, bag, handbag, satchel or other similar bag or briefcase or fully enclosed case."

The Senate is expected to approve the agreement and send it to the governor.

It could be a good year for gun rights and gun owners. The state Legislature is proposing to make Florida one of the few states offering tax breaks for purchasers of guns, ammunition and gun club memberships.

A massive House tax cut package would exempt target and skeet shooting club membership fees from sales taxes, and create a sales tax holiday on July 4 for rifles, shotguns and ammunition.

State officials estimate the club fee exemption will cut state and local tax revenue by $1.2 million, but haven't estimated the effect of the sales tax holiday.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788.
