"The Second Amendment Foundation today applauded Virginia Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell for requesting legislation that would outlaw 'simulated straw purchases,' thus prohibiting the kind of vigilante gun sting operation mounted last year by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg."

"In a letter to Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, McDonnell noted that 'The recent activities by the City of New York in Virginia brought this issue to my attention. New York's actions were met with much concern by law enforcement and this office, and have resulted in much civil litigation against Virginia businesses.'" ...

"'I'm an idiot. I'm ignorant. My words obviously have come back to destroy my career.'"

"Thus was the observation of outdoor legend Jim Zumbo, who told Gun Week in an exclusive interview that he harbors no ill feelings toward the legions of angry gunowners whose backlash has possibly cost him his livelihood, and perhaps his reputation."

"'I did it to myself,' he said. 'I have nobody to blame.'"

"But in a candid conversation from his home in Wyoming, Zumbo said that the most important lesson he learnedand that he hopes will translate into action in defense of the Second Amendment in this countryis that 'When the gun community acts and decides to take on an issue, this is proof positive they can make it work. I am proud of them.'" ...

"While watching the news last night and the Jim Webb/Phillip Thompson issue was being discussed, I was surprised to hear an attractive young woman, an advocate of right to carry and owns guns herself say 'I wont be with a man that can't kill another man.' I was so astounded by her frank and open statement, more than just a breath of fresh air but a near gale that it made me wish more women would be allowed to speak so openly. However, that is wishful thinking since the MSM doesn't get into the stories I read each month in the NRA's publication 'American Rifleman' unless it is to the advantage of those that want to disarm all law-abiding citizens of America." ...

Equal rights under the Second Amendment

"On March 9, a good thing happened for people living in the central and inner cities of America: the DC gun ban was declared unconstitutional. The blanket ban on all operational firearms - and every handgun even if that gun doesn't work - was struck down as unconstitutional by a federal appeals court. As a guy who lived in the projects, served as mayor of Cincinnati, and who serves as a member of the National Rifle Association's urban affairs committee, I say, 'Three cheers for justice.'"

"Many cities have bad gun laws, and the worst is the DC gun ban. Under the ban, you cannot have any handgun, even in your own home. ..." ...

"From a federal perspective, the purpose of the militia is to supplement the regular military with additional men of fighting age who are familiar with military weapons used by ordinary soldiers - in other words, assault weapons."

"Traditionally, members of the militia were expected to provide their own private weapons. More recently, our government provides weapons and equipment for the National Guard component of the militia."

"Many people incorrectly equate the National Guard with the 'militia,' and mistakenly believe that the Second Amendment only applies to this 'militia.'" ...

"Gun Control: Democrats are noticeably silent as freshman Sen. James Webb packs heat and leaves an aide literally holding the bag. So why should their constituents not have the same right to self-defense?"

"Webb was selected to run against Republican George Allen last year in part because of his support of the Second Amendment. Webb sees the right to keep and bear arms as an individual right. It was part of the Democrats' plan not only to recapture the Senate but to make inroads into red-state America." ...

"The original intent of the Second Amendment is quite clear and straightforward: the Founders wanted to protect the right of individual Americans to own guns. The Amendment does not say, as critics contend, that only the 'militia' has the right to bear arms it says, quite plainly, that the 'right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'"

"If every citizen was armed, the Founders reasoned, it then would be a relatively easy task to form them into a militia should the need for the states to protect themselves from tyrannical overlords become necessary." ...

"Box cutters, ice picks, knives, meat cleavers, brass knuckles and explosive devices are among the lethal weapons undercover government agents manage to smuggle past airport security, according to aviation security experts. They say the serious security gaps underline the need to arm more airline pilots - and quickly."

"Despite extensive security measures put in place since 9/11, the experts note, the agents succeed in getting the dangerous items past airport security staff nine times out of ten."

"Determined individuals would even been able to sneak firearms onboard, taking them apart and putting them together again once on the plane, according to Larry Johnson, a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent." ...

"Wasting no time after a federal appeals court for the District of Columbia struck down a 31-year-old handgun ban in Washington, D.C., gun control proponents revealed the true nature of their movement."

"It's founded on fraud and fear of self-reliance."

"Despite what they may claim about not wanting to ban guns, they really do. Shrieks over the landmark ruling by Senior Judge Laurence Silberman that 'the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms' suggested that proponents of restrictive gun control felt a wooden stake being driven through the heart of their movement." ...

... "Jeffrey Johnson was shot with a Tec-9 semiautomatic, a weapon that it had been illegal to manufacture for a decade under the federal assault-weapons ban. Congress let the ban expire in September 2004. For its part, Florida has no state restriction on the sale or possession of such arms and is unlikely to pass one."

"It was one of the first states in the nation to adopt a law allowing individuals to carry concealed handguns, and two years ago it enacted what is known as the 'Stand Your Ground' law, permitting a person to preemptively 'use deadly force' against any perceived threat of attack." ...

"In the District of Columbia, it is unlawful to possess a handgun unless you are a law-enforcement official or (under certain circumstances) a retired policeman, or unless the handgun was registered in your name before 1976, when the gun ban was first enacted. Yet Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., seemed to hint at a March 27 press conference that he does not obey this law. When I phoned his office on March 28 seeking a clarification, spokeswoman Jessica Smith said the senator had none to offer. "Her false claim that she understands and strongly supports the Second Amendment is remarkably similar to the recent events surrounding the firing of a well-entrenched outdoor writer/TV personality Jim Zumbo ... because his actions did not support his false claim of 'strongly supporting the Second Amendment.'"

"As the law stands now, Cloudy would have to try to run away from an intruder before shooting. Something Cloudy didn't know. The new self defense gun law will give him the right to shoot first. There are some stipulations. A person must believe their life is threatened before using deadly force. The early victory has many business lobbyists, who managed to block the controversial idea just one year ago, worried that the NRA will be much tougher to stop this time around."

"'I would think that right now the bill stands a good chance of passing,' said Sen.
