The very foundations of the gun control movement were rocked today by the results of a survey taken by the National Association of Chiefs of Police (NACOP). In a nutshell, the survey shows that the nation's top law enforcement officers believe that average citizens can be trusted to responsibly own firearms; that criminals ignore gun control laws; and that concealed carry laws reduce crime. |

"The Senate on Thursday gave its blessing to the renewal of the USA Patriot Act after adding new privacy protections designed to strike a better balance between civil liberties and the government's power to root out terrorists."
"The 89-10 vote marked a bright spot in President Bush's troubled second term as his approval ratings dipped over the war in Iraq and his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina. Renewing the act, Bush and congressional Republicans said, was key to preventing more terror attacks in the United States." |

"Georgians would be allowed to shoot first if they feel threatened, under a bill passed today in the state Senate."
"The bill, sponsored by Sen. Greg Goggans, R-Douglas, says people trying to defend themselves, other people or their property need not attempt to flee before using deadly force."
"The state already has a similar law for people protecting their homes. But the Goggans bill, endorsed by the National Rifle Association, would allow Georgians to use deadly force as long as they are in a place legally. If a firearm is used, they must legally possess the weapon." |

"When liberals are not trying to pass Nazism off as 'fascism,' they are attempting to pass it off as an extreme form of 'conservatism' and an inexorable byproduct of Christianity. In 2003, on his show 'Scarborough Country,' former congressman and current MSNBC personality Joe Scarborough shed light on a college textbook that grouped Rush Limbaugh and Ronald Reagan with Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini as 'conservatives.' Now how exactly could Hitler, a man who was a strong supporter of social welfare programs, gun control, animal rights, government funding for the arts, and bans against smoking in public get away with being called a 'conservative'?" |

"Today, to carry a concealed gun in Laramie, you need to apply for a permit. If House Bill 78, which has passed the house and is currently in the senate, becomes law, you could carry without a permit if you are a Wyoming resident 21 or older who can legally own a gun, are physically able to safely handle the gun and have not been committed to a facility for drug or alcohol abuse in the past six years. You would also have to inform police that you are armed if you are stopped."

" 'Guns kill people' was what the makers of the movie Lord of War kept hammering into our minds. In the opening scene, our viewpoint is manufactured into a bullet. Then, from a bullet's-eye-view, we take a voyage overseas, get smuggled across a border by dark-skinned ne'er-do-wells, loaded into an assault rifle and aimed at a young, innocent boy. We never see anyone pull a trigger. What we see is the last brief trajectory in the life of a bullet, down the barrel of the gun into the brain of the cowering boy. Splat! Intense."
