What has this to do with President Bushs proposed "Freedom Corps"? A great deal. The very title of the initiative is an Orwellian coinage suggesting that freedom can only be achieved as part of a government-regimented program. Similar subterfuge is at work in the Presidents call for Americans to give 4,000 hours in federally supervised "service" to the "nation." |

Father Cirilo Nacorda comes armed with more than his faith to daily Mass at the Church of St Peter on the southern Philippines island of Basilan. Beneath his flowing vestments the stocky, 44-year-old Catholic priest packs his favourite .45 automatic pistol.
"Life is so precious. This is God's gift to us and I have to protect it," he says. "I believe God understands my predicament and why I need to do this. He knows my heart." --- A priest that knows that self defense is a God-given right. |

--- I wonder who wrote this article for the San Francisco Chronicle? Perhaps the Brady Bunch or the VPC. I hope the Chronicle starts telling me the origin of all weapons used to illegally murder people, including knives, automobiles, beer bottles, etc. This is not newsworthy! --- KABA NOTE: Except to prove once again that NICS (the 'Brady bill') does not work. |

"They make millions of dollars and live a lifestyle few can imagine, but some athletes just can't resist the risky lure -- and allure -- of guns."
Jon Vernick, co-director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research, said his organization has not studied the preponderance of athletes packing heat these days. He allows that perhaps it just seems that way because when an athlete is arrested, the story runs in the newspaper the next day. --- Media bias?! Really?! |

The screenings, which have been conducted for the past five years, include searching for certain words in orders such as "combat."
"Handguns" or "firearms" are not words that prompt red flags, the company said. |

A woman accused of shooting a man who allegedly molested her son will not go to trial. On Friday, a grand jury decided not to indict the woman, who shot Larry Howell in November.
The woman was charged with one count of first-degree assault, and assault under extreme emotional disturbance.
Prosecutors said Friday that they will not present the charges a second time to the grand jury, which effectively ends the case against her.
Howell has been charged with nine counts of sodomy. |

The lead "researcher," Dr. Matthew Miller, said "the study could not definitively prove that increased gun ownership alone was linked to the childhood fatalities."
But the "researchers" said "other factors were unable to account for the differences." |

--- American anti-CCW types have long insisted that this type of thing would happen in U.S. streets if CCW was "allowed", instead it is happening where guns are "banned" for self-defense (so of course criminals "illegally" carry them to intimidate the unarmed and to scrap with their rivals)... |

"People with permits to carry hidden guns now want to make our schools battlegrounds. It is not enough that weapons are now available to settle disputes in public areas such as highways, bars or clubs, but now we are being asked to believe that once someone has been authorized to carry a concealed weapon, that person will forever act rationally and prudently." |
