... "'A sensible approach to gun laws dictates that firearms with reasonable recreational, self-defense and sporting uses be protected, but military-style guns are proven to be nothing more than killing machines in the hands of irresponsible civilians,' he asserts, as if doing so means he knows what hes talking about. Still, his use of the word 'dictates' says much." ...

"It seems a truism, so obvious as to not be worth saying, that gun rights advocacy is associated with 'conservatism,' and the push for more oppressive gun laws is associated with 'liberalism.' This was not always the case. As UCLA Constitutional Law Professor Adam Winkler writes in The Atlantic, California's passion for 'gun control' can be said to have begun with conservatives attempting to disarm the Black Panthers. Going back much further than that, John Locke, the 'father of liberalism' (although admittedly, Locke's Classical Liberalism was a brand almost directly opposite what goes by that name these days), was clearly no advocate of a "government monopoly on force.'" ...

"We who travel with firearms need to be careful not to run afoul of the fifty-piece patchwork quilt of United States gun laws. This goes double on commercial aircraft and triple when we travel to other nations. Take it from someone who regularly has to go up to airline ticket counters and say, 'My name is Massad Ayoob and I have two handguns,' though I try to phrase it more diplomatically than that."

"The AR-15 platform has indeed gotten a bit stale. Everyone and their illegitimate cousin twice removed makes a version of the gun these days, and for most manufacturers all they actually do is grab a barrel from one supplier, a receiver from another, slap their branding on it and call the thing new. And for most consumers, thats good enough. But Adams Arms has gone a few steps further. Not only have they completely re-designed the gas system to use a piston instead of direct impingement, but they go to the trouble of making their own parts barrels included. While thats all very impressive, as always the proof is in how well the gun actually runs. And even on that end, the company does things, well, differently . . ." ...

"The rise of the rugged, reliable zero-to-low power variable rifle scope in the last decade has been a fantastic development. Scopes like the Burris MTAC, Leupold VX-R Patrol and Bushnell SMRS can meet your aiming needs from sitting-room distances out to 300 yards and beyond. From CQB to DMR to hog and coyote hunting, they bridge the gap between red dot sights and magnifying optics. But most of them bridge that gap verrry sloooowly. And thats where a good scope throw lever comes in . . ." ...

"Every year, about 100 children die from an accidental shooting, and in about 85% of those cases, the shooter was another child. Many thousands more, children and adults alike, have been killed by guns that are illegally trafficked or stolen."

"The technology to eliminate these senseless deaths already exists, and we believe it should be required."

"The Handgun Trigger Safety Act would achieve this goal. ..." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: And the lying liars are lying again. According to the CDC, from 2006 - 2010 there were 221 actual children (0 - 12 years old) accidentally killed with a firearm, or 44.2 per year. To achieve the "about 100" number you have to include "children" up to age 17.
But before we start worrying about guns, how about we do something about the 5,982 "children" (using the author's definition) who accidentally suffocated in that period? Or the 4,470 who accidentally drowned? Or the 1,916 who died in residential fires, the 1,713 accidentally poisoned, the 585 who died bicycling 576 who died in falls?
Sorry Scooter, but you are going to have to come up with a better rationale to support your anti-gun agenda than recycling "it's for the children".
