A former New Jersey sheriff has been indicted on child sex abuse charges.
A Warren County grand jury handed up a six-count indictment.
The indictment claims that in the mid 1980s, while working as Warren County sheriff, Edward Bullock sexually abused a 10-year-old boy for several years.
Russo says a lot of the abuse happened inside the Warren County Courthouse.
"Involves removing from a holding cell in the courthouse. The abuse actually took place in the sheriff's office," Russo alleges. |

Aside from the school budget, Burlington voters supported every other ballot item on Town Meeting Day, including ... three proposed charter changes aimed at gun safety. The gun measures would allow police to seize the weapons of anyone suspected of domestic abuse, ban guns in liquor establishments and require gun owners to lock up their guns at home. All three passed by wide margins. Because they are charter changes, they must be approved by the Vermont Legislature, and that would require lawmakers to be willing to allow local communities to establish their own local gun laws. House Speaker Shap Smith says it's too late in the session to take it up. And given its sensitivity, it needs to be addressed in a thoughtful way. |

But the police departments recommendation that City Council terminate Hoffman is not based solely on that accident.
During the hearing, council learned about other reprimands he received from the department and other incidents in which police officials said alcohol played a role in his belligerent behavior including one where he allegedly grabbed a man by the throat and threatened a south Bethlehem bar owner and his bouncer.
Those incidents and reprimands sporadically occurred during most of the years Hoffman was with the police department, beginning in 2005 when he threatened a Philadelphia police officer who handcuffed and detained him.

Burlington, Vt. might be getting some new gun restrictions after voters there passed three new gun control measures Tuesday as part of Town Meeting Day. The three articles will allow police officers to confiscate guns, ammo or weapons from suspected domestic abusers, ban firearms from locations with liquor licenses and require firearms to be locked when not with the users. Before Burlington can add the new gun control measures to the charter, the state legislature will have to approve them.

Instead, a less-taxing solution, on both Ms. Harris and the state's coffers, may be for the Legislature to simply join with the majority of the nation and craft better determinate criteria that actually allow the issuing of permits to carry concealed firearms to responsible, law-abiding citizens. Doing so, rather than leaving it to the courts, leaves less uncertainty and a level of control for the gun-shy state without infringing on constitutional rights to keep and bear arms. |

A National Rifle Association lobbyist and other gun rights activists urged a state Senate committee Wednesday to back a bill that would allow people to carry guns on campus, arguing that it would make college safer.
University of Alaska now requires guns to be kept in locked vehicles on its 16 campuses or, for dorm residents, stored in locked areas. UA President Pat Gamble on Monday told the committee the system works well and warned of problems with the legislation filed by Sen. John Coghill, R-Fairbanks. |

Facebook Inc and its photo sharing subsidiary, Instagram, will delete posts offering to buy or sell guns without background checks.
In an effort to curb what gun control advocates say is the increasing use of the social networks to circumvent checks and controls on firearms sales, Facebook and Instagram will also bar users under 18 from viewing gun offers posted by individuals or groups.
"We will not permit people to post offers to sell regulated items that indicate a willingness to evade or help others evade the law," Facebook said. |

Connecticut has some of the most strict gun control laws in the nation, passed in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Highlights of the law include a prohibition on the sales of firearm magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, a ban on many guns deemed by cosmetic looks to be "assault weapons," mental and criminal background checks to buy a gun, certificates for gun and ammunition sales, and a firearm registry for certain types of guns. |

In the latest victory for firearms advocates, a federal appeals court has tossed out Yolo Countys policy requiring citizens to prove they face a threat of violence or robbery before they can get a concealed weapon permit.
In an unpublished memorandum issued Wednesday by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a three-judge panel found Yolo Countys policy impermissibly infringes on the Second Amendment right to bear arms in lawful self-defense.

Prieto did not immediately signal whether he would actively seek to salvage his policy.

On Jan. 14, Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial, Neb., proposed Legislative Bill 879, a bill that permits teachers and staff to carry concealed handguns in public and private schools and universities in the state of Nebraska, as long as they have 24 hours of training. In addition to training, teachers would need school board approval to carry a handgun in the classroom or on campus. Growing up in rural Nebraska, I have been around firearms my whole life ... Though I believe people have the right to keep and bear arms, I dont believe firearms belong in Nebraska schools even in the hands of teachers and staff. |

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gives Americans the right to bear arms outside the home for self-defense. So said a three-member panel of, wonder of wonders, the notoriously liberal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The ruling, which applies to California and other western states, struck down a San Diego County policy which requires that individuals show a pressing need in order to obtain from the County Sheriff, who gets to decide what constitutes a pressing need and what does not, a concealed carry permit. The 2-1 decision found that an applicant need only show a desire to defend oneself. |

A new bill allowing people to keep firearms locked and stored in vehicles parked on school property passed the Indiana state House on Monday, earning praise from pro-Second Amendment groups and the ire of opponents.
The legislation, Senate Bill 229, strikes language prohibiting people, including school employees, from keeping a firearm locked in a vehicle on school property. Passed by the Indiana House of Representatives with Republican support, the bill moves to a conference committee.
Senate Bill 229 passed the House 74-24 late Monday night as lawmakers battled a midnight deadline to act on Senate bills, The Indianapolis Star reported. |

Fresh from a major victory in their battle to legalize concealed carry, Second Amendment activists flocked to the Illinois capitol Wednesday to fight for rights in Illinois.
After seeing the states first concealed carry law go into effect earlier this year, a number of pro-gun groups arrived in Springfield to lobby against some of the many restrictions on carry under the new act.
We promised that we would get concealed carry, we promised it would be statewide and we promised it would be shall-issue, said Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. We have achieved all these things. Its been quite a year for us, and were very happy about these things. |

A bill to allow people to carry concealed firearms on college campuses received backing from a law enforcement group the afternoon before it is set for battle on the House floor.
Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman said the Idaho Sheriffs' Association is throwing its support behind the legislation after a "vast majority" of 38 Idaho sheriffs who responded to a poll said they favored it.
Six of the state's 44 sheriffs didn't respond, and Zollman wasn't sure at a Wednesday news conference exactly how many voted for it. Police chiefs, student groups and the heads of all eight public Idaho colleges have said they don't want the bill to become law. |

Recent actions by Murthy add to the NRAs concerns:
A recent letter sent to Congress by "Doctors for America," and signed by Dr. Murthy, urges mandatory licensing "for anyone purchasing guns and ammunition including mandatory firearm safety training and testing."
Under Dr. Murthy's scheme, further regulations would place "limits on the purchase of ammunition," and establish a "mandatory waiting period of at least 48 hours."
...
Now that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has changed the rules so that it will take only 51 votes to confirm, Dr. Murthy is expected to win the nomination in a walk. |

The bill heard by the committee Tuesday, March 4, would provide that a leaser could legally keep a weapon and not be in violation of the lease agreement. The bill also would provide that a landlord would not be responsible for damage cause by the tenants use or possession of a firearm.
The bills sponsor is Rep. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane.
