In the good ol days, back before social media, before the World Wide Web and even before disco and unleaded gasoline, the number 1911 used in reference to a pistol meant a USGI M1911 or M1911A1 or one of a handful of Colts commercial spinoffs. With a few notable exceptions, you generally knew the writer meant an all-steel, semi-automatic pistol with a single-action trigger and a barrel 5 inches in length.

The allure of the .257 Roberts hit me early and lasted long. Ive owned a dozen or more rifles chambered in that cartridge. The problem was, I never had one I really liked. And, I never owned one that shot outstandingly well. One problem with the Bob as it is often called, is that factory ammunition is loaded to an anemic level. This is because early on when the .257 Roberts was in its wildcat stage, before Remington legitimized it in 1934, lots of rifles of questionable strength were chambered for it. Because of this, SAAMI the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute mandated .257 Roberts operating pressures be kept low.

The legislative session is only a couple months old, but some bills have already been deemed dead for the year. Because of a procedural deadline, bills that haven't passed at least one committee by last week are done for the session. Others have survived the deadline and could still be approved by lawmakers.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894).
