"If you are a uniformed Police Officer of any rank and do not fully, and honorably support the pre-existing God given rights enumerated in the 2nd Amendment, you are a disgrace to your Badge and your oath of office to protect and serve. The citizens of the United States of America deserve better than you. You should not be allowed the honor of public service as a sworn peace officer of the law. Taking a contrary, selective position to the Constitution means you are not following the supreme law of the land and are, in fact, endangering the safety of yourself, your fellow officers, and the public you are sworn to protect. This dishonor is increased if you support any (so- called) 'Police Fraternal Organization' that aligns itself with groups seeking to infringe, limit, or destroy the 2nd Amendment (Such as 'Handgun Control Incorporated,' etc). This dishonor is increased if you support any State or Federal Attorney General, Legislator (Politician); or local Government body that have de facto reneged on their sworn oath to 'Protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic.' For these individuals (by endorsing 'gun control") have become the 'domestic enemies' embodied in that oath." |

In late January, Gov. George Pataki promised no new taxes in his proposed 2004-2005 budget. What the governor forgot to mention was a slew of increased fees. Over the past two weeks, my district office has received more than 500 phone calls and letters in opposition to the proposed fee increase on pistol permits in New York State.
I strongly oppose the governor's proposal to have a five-year, renewable pistol license with a charge of $100, plus $25 for each endorsement. This proposal punishes legitimate gun owners and places an extensive burden on the Erie County clerk, who maintains about 70,000 pistol licenses.
As pistol permit holders, we must voice our opposition to this proposal and protect our Second Amendment rights.

Because too many accidents happen with gun owners, Indiana conservation officers held a firearm safety class Saturday. The idea is to make sure everyone who owns a gun, or has access to a gun, knows how to properly handle it. The free course covered how to properly store the firearm, where to store it, and how to make sure the gun is always unloaded. Many people who attended the two hour class are new gun owners. "During his 1-year stint after he was appointed to the Illinois House of Representatives, Jonathan Wright discovered 'that oftentimes the campaign promises and pledges aren't backed up by real commitment.' "
"He said that will not be the case if he gets elected to the U.S. Senate." ...
"On guns, Wright described himself as 'strongly pro-Second Amendment,' which refers to the right to bear arms. He also believes law-abiding citizens should be permitted to carry concealed guns. He opposes extending the federal ban on ownership of assault weapons, which is due to expire this year, because he said it deals more with semiautomatic weapons than with assault weapons." "When we've tinkered with the Constitution, it has almost always been to expand political rights and to protect our freedom from excessive governmental control. Prohibition was the big exception to that rule, but it was overturned by a later amendment." ...
"...There's the Second Amendment, which either protects the right of individuals to carry weapons (don't try it on an airplane) or guarantees the right of individuals who are members of 'a well-regulated militia' to do so. Depends on who's interpreting." ...

"But the hard part is still to come, according to legal experts, who say that while winning an indictment against a police officer in a shooting case is rare, getting a conviction is even more difficult." ...
"Local prosecutors have had mixed results when their case involves a law-enforcement official."
"Last year, for example, they did win convictions in a case that amounted to one of the largest police-corruption cases in Jefferson County history." |
