"Today, in a 58-page decision, Los Angeles-based federal district court Judge Audrey B. Collins became the first judge in the nation to dismiss a junk lawsuit based on the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, signed into law by President Bush in October. The judge dismissed a public-nuisance lawsuit filed against Glock and the distributor RSR brought by victims and family members of the now infamous 'Jewish Daycare Center' shooting in Los Angeles in 1999 by Buford Furrow, a crazed homicidal maniac. Furrow illegally obtained and criminally misused a Glock pistol originally sold by Glock to a Washington state police department. RSR never owned, sold or possessed the firearm. ..." |

"Guns are tools. Like any other tools, they can be either good or poor at achieving their purpose. In an article published in the Winter 2005 issue of Ergonomics in Design entitled 'Human Factors Issues in Firearms Design and Training,' the authors look at the design and operation of firearms from a human factors perspective. Observations on standardization and the prevention of inadvertent use highlight some important ways in which the human factors/ergonomics (HF/E) community can contribute to the production of safe and effective future firearms." ... |

The Indiana House gave more power to Hoosiers to protect themselves with deadly force by approving House Enrolled Act 1028 by an 81-10 vote. The bill would no longer require people who claim self defense to retreat or run away first before they use deadly force. The bill gives immunity to a person if he thinks he needs to use force to protect himself or another from serious bodily injury. The bill now advances to Gov. Mitch Daniels for action. He can either sign it, veto it or let it become law without his signature. |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
Oklahoma judges could carry guns in courthouses under legislation approved today by the Oklahoma House.
Tulsa state Representative Daniel Sullivan allows district judges and associate district judges to have firearms in a courthouse. It was approved 94-to-4 and sent to the Senate for a vote.
The measure arose from an incident in Tulsa in which a judge became concerned that a defendant had overpowered a deputy sheriff, prompting the judge to arm himself in self-defense.
Current state law doesn't technically allow judges to carry weapons in the courthouse.
In March 2005, three people were killed, including a judge, after a defendant overpowered a deputy in a Georgia courtroom. |
