"The sweep of gun rights reform in this country is nearly complete as Nebraska prepares to join the 47 other states who have some provision for citizens to carry firearms for their personal protection."

"The Nebraska legislature passed a concealed carry bill Wednesday, which Republican Governor Dave Heineman has said he will sign into law."

"New York City's mayor is blasting a congressional proposal ... Michael Bloomberg claimed the legislation 'would explicitly impinge on our ability to fight illegal gun trafficking, and it would result in the shooting deaths of innocent people.' But an attorney who specializes in federal firearms laws calls Bloomberg's claims 'patently false.'" ...

"But attorney and firearms law expert Richard Gardiner challenged that description."

"'That assumes that trace data is meaningful in indicating that [firearms] dealers are involved in selling guns that are used in crimes,' Gardiner told Cybercast News Service. 'And the problem with that is that ... not all trace guns are 'crime guns' and not all 'crime guns' are traced.'" ...

"... The idea of a republican government, in that paper, is something superior to the poor people. The governing persons are the servants of the people. There, the servants are greater than their masters; because it includes infinitude, and infinitude excludes every idea of subordination. In this the creature has destroyed and soared above the creator. For if its powers be infinite, what rights have the people remaining? ... The junction of these, without limitation, in the same hands, is, by logical and mathematical conclusions, the description of despotism." ...

"The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has issued its 2005 state-by-state report card on the success of its gun-grabbing agenda."

"Alaska received an F+, dropping from a D-. Across the nation, 32 states received D's or F's on the report card. Thirty-two."

"Why did Alaska fare so 'poorly,' according to the anti-gunners? Thankfully, there were many reasons. Among them: Law-abiding folks can carry concealed weapons here; the state allows private sales without government interference; Alaska does not limit handgun sales to one a month; and, we do not allow police to arbitrarily limit concealed carry. And on and on and on." ...

Submitter's Note: Just as a recap, Alaska with a 2003 'gun death' rate of 18.50 got an F+, Washington DC, with a rate of 29.29 got a B.

"Don't let the name of this legislation fool you, the Firearms Corrections and Improvement Act only serves to improve the chances of somebody getting away with a gun crime."

"This bill proposes changes that will undermine federal law and endanger public safety. These are not mere technical corrections, but a blatant attempt to restrict use of the ATF's National Trace Centers database."

"This bill cuts local law enforcement out of the loop. Without this tracing data, local law enforcement officials wont be able to pursue civil action on suppliers that have been implicated in crimes without the ATF's involvement. Amazingly, HR 2005 makes sharing this information with another police department a crime." ...

Although Wolfgram does not extensively address the matter of withholding taxes to secure just Redress, he does go to some length to remind the court that while Magna Carta explicitly provided for lawful, violent rebellion to secure effective Justice, the purpose of such declaratory language was not to 'legalize' rebellion per se, but to insure that the King understood it was through the threat and demonstration of pending violence that substantive Justice could peacefully be secured. Hence, by analogy, the real purpose of our Second Amendment in relation to the Petition clause is revealed." ...

"The concealed gun law passed by the Texas Legislature in 1995 couldn't be clearer. The right is restored if the person is acquitted or the charges dismissed."

"In the intervening 11 years, the statute has been enforced without controversy. Who would want an accused robber or murderer packing heat while awaiting trial? That is the question facing Illinois lawmakers as once again they consider a statewide ban on semiautomatic assault-type weapons. One prison system's list of contraband items includes drugs, weapons and now peanut butter.

The Tennessee state prison system has decided to ban jars of peanut butter. Officials say inmates were using them to conceal drugs and guns, and they found a 32-caliber pistol and ammunition during a search.

Inmates had been allowed to buy 18-ounce jars from prison commissaries. Now they'll have the option of one-ounce packets.

Department investigators found that George Hyatte, an inmate accused in the shooting death of a guard during a bold courthouse escape last year, used a peanut butter jar to hide a cell phone that he used to coordinate his escape.

However, the organization is greatly alarmed that the officer has been sentenced to death."

"Although the conviction is a positive step in the fight for justice in cases of police killings in Trinidad and Tobago, the organization strongly condemns the passing of a sentence of death.
