Before and especially after Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law a bill removing the permit requirement to carry a firearm, one would have thought the world was coming to an end.

Days later, when Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine inked similar legislation in the Buckeye State, anti-gunners really didnt like it.

Published reports say county sheriffs opposed it in both states. And there were Democratic lawmakers in Alabama who made the absurd argument the bill was about defunding police because law enforcement agencies would lose revenue (an estimated $5 million) from permits.

When was the last time you unloaded the magazine of your everyday carry (EDC) gun and inspected all the rounds you carry? If the last time you saw the final round in the magazine was when you filled your magazine six months ago, consider the following reasons to inspect your ammunition more often.

A Byron Township shooting incident has FOX 17 looking into the topic of self-defense. Many wonder if what that man did is legal and what is allowed to do to keep safe.

Michigan's Self-Defense Act allows individuals to use deadly force if they believe it is necessary to prevent death, great bodily harm or sexual assault.

However, attorneys say you should be confident of what's going on before pulling the trigger.

A deadly shooting at a home in Lackawanna County has been ruled self-defense.

Kevin Bowan shot and killed Harrison Carpenter at a house in Simpson last month.

Lackawanna County D.A. Mark Powell says, "the facts simply don't support a charge of homicide in this case."

Bowan, however, will be charged with illegal possession of firearms as a result of the incident.

Georgians soon could be able to carry guns outside their houses without a license.

The Georgia House voted, 100-67, Wednesday in favor of Senate Bill 319 to eliminate the need for a permit. Currently, Georgians must obtain a firearms license, which costs about $75 but may vary by county.

The constitutional carry measure now returns to the Senate to consider changes the House made to the bill. A similar piece of legislation, House Bill 1358, is pending in the state Senate.

While cities such as Indianapolis and Phoenix have recorded numbers of justifiable homicides by private citizens that are comparable to St. Louis numbers, police in Chicago, Kansas City and Baltimore did not report any in 2021. In Kansas City, which saw its second-highest murder total last year, police said they classify only officer-involved shootings as justifiable.

Thats the whole idea behind uniform crime reporting, its supposed to be the same for everybody, and isnt, especially with regard to this kind of subtle distinction of determining who is at fault in each case, said Gary Kleck, a professor emeritus at Florida State University, who has studied justifiable homicide.

Once again, a passenger on public transportation has been shot in what police have ruled as self-defense.

In Tallahassee, Florida, a 69-year-old City Taxi driver decided to take one more fare before heading home, according to police reports. He picked up an 18-year-old who needed to go to Walmart to cash a check from work, and during the drive, the rider accused the driver of driving slowly to make more money.

The argument came to a head a few feet from the stores entrance when the passenger began punching the driver in the back of the head. The driver pulled out his handgun and shot the young man once while they were both in the car.

What happens when government bans civilian possession of firearms for self-defense for law-abiding citizens? We need to look no further for an answer than south of the Rio Grande. When bad men with evil in their hearts showed up Sunday night at a cockfight in a small town in Michoacan, Mexico, with no good guys with guns to stop them, it became a bloodbath. In the end 20 were killed and more wounded.

Miramar police released surveillance video Thursday from a Valentines Day shooting in which a man claimed self-defense for killing a 16-year-old robber.

The three surveillance videos of the incident are from cameras located near incident site, a gazebo near the Silver Shores community clubhouse on Silver Shores Boulevard.

One video shows the three robbers running away from the gazebo and the robbery victim firing his gun in their direction.

Another video shows three men wearing hoodies and face coverings crouching down and moving in a stealthy fashion. Two men are later seen running away.

As the organization that represents over 1,800 pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists in Georgia, our Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has watched with dismay the advance of several permissive gun bills in this years state legislative session.

This is especially true of our brave pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric surgeon members, who daily must treat the seriously wounded young victims of gunshot wounds, too many of whom do not survive.

Good news for gun-owning singles using dating apps to find their mates. Or a hookup. Dating app OKCupid reports that a survey of their users shows gun ownership isnt the biggest dealbreaker among prospective daters. In fact, guns apparently didnt even come close. Instead, 90% of that companys open-minded (cough) users view those who are skeptical about climate change as those most unsuitable for communication, much less dating.

Diversity and inclusion is our strength. Or so say a lot of bigots so long as the diversity and inclusion dont run afoul of their particular prejudices and predilections.

The Alabama Senate on Thursday passed legislation to prevent state law enforcement from recognizing federally-enacted regulation of firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition.

Sponsored by State Sen. Gerald Allen (R-Tuscaloosa), the Alabama Second Amendment Preservation Act notes that the federal government has no authority to force a state or its officers to participate in implementing or enforcing its acts.

In a statement applauding the bills passage, Allen declared that progressive gun control measures pose a serious threat to the citizenrys Second Amendment rights.

The bill, which takes effect on June 12, significantly changes the states concealed carry law. Until now, anyone who wished to carry a concealed weapon on their person or in their vehicle was required to apply for and obtain a permit, submit to a background check and undergo eight hours of firearm training something that seems reasonable given that guns are lethal weapons. The law also required motorists traveling with a concealed weapon in their vehicle to apprise police of that fact during traffic stops.

The Senate Judiciary Committee heard hours of testimony Thursday on a laundry list of gun-related bills, including one that proposes banning high-capacity magazines.

The bill, sponsored by Committee Chairwoman Cynthia Coyne, would make it a felony for someone to own a semiautomatic firearm magazine thats capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammo.

They enable shooters to unleash bullets and inflict harm in mere seconds, making them a tool of the trade for mass shootings, Coyne said.

For hours, lawmakers heard from Second Amendment supporters who argue that those who use these high-capacity magazines to commit crimes dont abide by the law to begin with.

People wont be able to flaunt their firearms within 100 feet of a polling place under a law signed by Gov. Jared Polis on Wednesday.

House Bill 1086, dubbed the Vote Without Fear Act, makes it a misdemeanor to openly carry firearms near ballot drop boxes, buildings with polling locations or vote counting facilities during elections. The open carry of firearms is otherwise legal in much of Colorado. The law still allows for permitted Coloradans to carry concealed firearms, and exempts on-duty law enforcement officers and people who open carry on property they own thats within the buffer zone.

Thanks to gun industry lobbying and the Supreme Court's unhistorical reinterpretation of the Second Amendment, privately owned firearms are widely distributed. We have paid for the ready availability of military-style rifles with massacres of school children, people in shopping malls, and many other places.

But if we are unable to outlaw ownership of these guns, we might as well employ them for constructive purposes, like allowing a vast reduction in national military expenditures.

The day before the Russian invasion, Ukrainian citizens suffered under some of the most severe gun-ownership restrictions in the world: One had to be 21 to buy a shotgun and 25 to own a rifle. Handgun ownership was banned altogether.

A background check was required, along with a mental exam, the payment of a fee, taking a gun-safety class, and owning a government-certified gun safe for storage.

The process was designed to impede approval, which often took months and usually resulted in permission being denied.

The Maine Senate may hold a floor vote as early as today, on Sunday hunting legislation, LD 2014. As amended, LD 2014 allows Sunday hunting on private property with written landowner permission, statewide. Maine is just one of two states that does not allow any form of hunting on Sundays, due to an antiquated blue law left on the books. Please act now! Contact your State Senator and ask them to SUPPORT LD 2014!

The subject of any of the three-letter agencies as of late has left a bit of a nasty taste in many freedom-loving peoples mouths. Whether there are rumors of not doing proper investigations or evidence of illegal actions, the alphabet soup of executive stormtroopers in the United States have not been making any friends. Yes, there are plenty of great rank and file agents, peace officers, etc. that work for this wonderful country (and the people). However, the leadership, lack of transparency, and overt favoritism to leftist ideals do not paint a pretty picture. What would the big guy have to say about favoritism?

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942.
