A North Carolina deputy was arrested this week after it was revealed he bought drugs and planted them in the car of his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, police say.

Deputy David Scott Burroughs' coworkers became suspicious when he told them about anonymous tips he'd received in May 2018 that the unnamed victim was dealing drugs out of his car."This was a revenge case where he planted drugs in this male's car, Reid continued. This male was dating his ex, and he wanted revenge, and he wanted his ex-girlfriend back."

Burrough was promptly fired when the investigation was completed, and he was arrested last week. He has since been released on bail and will appear in court next Tuesday.

Socialism or Communism: Call It What You Will

For decades, Bernie Sanders has proclaimed that he is a socialist, but is he a communist?

A common definition of communism is a system in which all means of production are owned, and all workers employed, by the state. A familiar definition of socialism is a system in which all means of production are owned or regulated by the state and all workers, therefore, employed or regulated by the state. Except for the qualification of "owned or regulated," there is no difference between socialism and communism. Some might view socialism as "communism lite," but there is nothing "lite" about the government takeover of all major industries that Bernie and other leading Democrats advocate.

There was a time when Natalie Perrin wanted to grow up to be a Monster Truck driver just like her mother.

When I was six years old, I had it all planned out, said Perrin prior to Saturdays Grand Valley State University Invitational at the Grand Rapids Rifle and Pistol Club, 1331 Nagel Ave., SW in Grand Rapids.

I was going to be Lil Miss Dangerous Jr.

Perrins mother, Jocelyn Perrin, was known as Lil' Miss Dangerous when she traveled the country racing her High Maintenance Monster Truck, but she has since hung up her helmet. Perrin has no desire to take over her mom's seat, though.

That was my mom and dads thing, Perrin said. I wanted to do something different. I wanted to branch out and do something on my own.

If crime statistics and the local television affiliates are not trying to pull to the wool over the eye of the public, late night/early morning shifts at convenience stores continuing to trend as unsafe workplaces should come as no shock to the general populace. Within the pre-dawn volatile environment of intoxicated, unbalanced, and sometimes desperate individuals creating their own rules in viewing a solitary 24-hour business as a soft target for an array of misbehavior and even a quick score, safety comes at a premium.

The New York Times has reported on a tactic now being used by a gun control group calling itself Guns Down America that pressures banking institutions into withholding financial support of gun makers, rights group and pro-Second Amendment politicians.

Guns Down America acknowledges on its website that it is moving our country toward a future with fewer guns by running campaigns to weaken the gun industry, the gun lobby, and the lawmakers who support them. The organization, which has a Washington, D.C. telephone number, a website and Facebook page, describes itself as, a bolder, broader movement calling for dramatically fewer guns in America, and for making them dramatically harder to get.

The Betsy Ross Flag: 5 Things You Didn't Know About This American Icon

Second only to Old Glory itself, the Betsy Ross Flag is the American icon. Its clean design is similar to our current flag, with 13 stripes and only 13 stars in a circle (representing the equal status of what were then the 13 united individual sovereign nations). This simplicity is perhaps the reason for its popularity among American Patriots and Constitutionalists, as it hearkens back to an earlier time when America was still a place of freedom and resistance to tyranny.

Gun control advocates long have controlled the narrative about defensive uses of firearms, calling the good guy with a gun scenario a myth meant to scare people into buying guns for self-defense. This is a false narrative that does not reflect reality. Despite a backdrop of rhetoric asserting that the average person has basically no chance in their lifetime ever to use a gun in self-defense, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a 2013 report concluded that studies routinely find that Americans use firearms in defense of themselves or others between 500,000 and 3 million times every year.

Gun owners can prepare on a range to simulate a situation where an emergency draw is necessary, but range preparation can only do so much. U.S. Law Shield of Kentucky chose to change that using the Virtual Tactical Academy, a simulated training program that gives participants the chance make split-second decisions in crisis situations on when to use a firearm or not in self defense.

Colorado will soon join the list of states with a so-called "red flag" gun law. It allows a family member or law enforcement to petition a court to temporarily remove someones guns for up to a year. It has passed the Democratic controlled state legislature and now awaits Gov. Jared Polis signature. Gun control advocates like Rep. Tom Sullivan say HB19-1177 is a much needed win, especially after six years of no action on gun laws in Colorado. A Democrat from Centennial, Sullivan was elected in November and was one of the bills sponsors. He got involved in politics after his son Alex was killed in the Aurora Theater shooting.

Despite the midterm setback last year, the Republican Party still controls the White House, the Senate, and a majority of governorships and state legislatures. Regardless of the mediocre approval rating and continuing woes of President Trump, the power of incumbency and an overcrowded field of Democratic Party opponents mean that he is more likely than not headed for reelection next year. But when I view the Republican Party, I see only missed opportunities to broaden its base and leadership that seems content to appeal only to a narrow portion of the electorate.

The points of view couldn't be more different when it comes to guns in the classroom. House Bill 1380, which is due to be voted on by the Tennessee House Education Committee Wednesday, would allow teachers with valid Tennessee handgun permits to carry guns in their classrooms. "I'm a mother with three kids in public schools. This scares me," Lisa Plawchan, a gun safety advocate with the group Moms Demand Action, said. She says bringing guns into the classroom won't make kids safer, even if there is an active shooter.

Two high-profile gun control measures died in the Maryland General Assembly after getting fervent support from mothers who wanted tighter access to firearms and fierce opposition from critics who flew their message with an airplane around the Maryland State House. One measure would have required background checks anytime someone buys a rifle or shotgun. Supporters said it was needed to close a loophole in Maryland law enabling private sales of long guns without background checks.

Two weeks later, SPLC president Richard Cohen stepped down to assist the group in implementing findings of an internal investigation.
