Opponents of a new concealed weapons law cleared a legal hurdle Monday when the Michigan Court of Appeals declined to block the processing of petitions aimed at forcing a vote on the law. The court said that the issue cannot be considered until the Secretary of State completes a review of the signatures and the Board of State Canvassers acts to approve or reject the referendum. |

"Although the "official" investigation of the incident now places all of the blame for the carnage on the Branch Davidian leader, David Koresh, numerous crimes by government agents were never seriously investigated or prosecuted. If those crimes go unpunished, the Waco incident will leave an odious precedentthat federal agents can use the "color of their office" to commit crimes against citizens."--Cato Policy Analysis No.395 |

"The COPS program was a 3-year commitment made by President Clinton, and the 3-year commitment has been honored. Programs never go away in Washington, and that's one of the reasons the government is so big," said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer. ~~ One baby step to reduce the federal government. ======= KABA Note: The article says that under President Bush's new budget, money for state and local police forces would be eliminated to pay for more Federal: Prisons, Computers, Border patrols, and Prosecutors to go after gun offenders. It sounds like Bush is expanding the federalization of police forces, not reducing it. |

"Timothy Thomas, 19, of Cincinnati, was shot to death Saturday by an officer who had chased him for several blocks. Thomas was unarmed. He had been wanted on 14 warrants for misdemeanors and traffic violations, including driving without a license and failing to wear a seat belt." ~~ Failing to wear a seat belt is obviously dangerous. ====== KABA Note: The article doesn't say what the alleged misdemeanors were, or why the policeman shot him. The "protesters" threw rocks at the policemen and vandalized the police station. |

"A study of an Indianapolis newspaper, for instance, found that if a murder suspect was black, the average article length was longer. The study, ... was carried out by the liberal-oriented Berkeley Media Studies Group and Schiraldi's Justice Policy Institute, which supports alternatives to prison." ~~ Red flag! Berkley critical of the media? The media not leaning far enough left for them? |

As the robber exited the pizza place that he had just robbed, an off-duty jailer pointed his personal handgun at him and told him to get down. The jailer held the robber at gun point until sheriff's deputies arrived.
"If he had run, I would have run after him," Kent (the jailer) said. "But I would not have fired. I guess (pointing the gun) was a big bluff." |
