"Law-abiding citizens of New Orleans who were forced to relinquish their legally owned firearms to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) will have to wait, indefinitely, to regain their property. The City of New Orleans revealed they have not returned any firearms, as Mayor Ray Nagin and the city have yet to set up a return process."

"'Mayor Ray Nagin continues to deny freedom by denying lawful citizens their Second Amendment rights,' stated National Rifle Association (NRA) Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. 'First, he confiscates law-abiding citizens' firearms and lies about it. Then, he fails to comply with court orders. Now he refuses to return the legally owned firearms to their rightful owners by dragging his feet. Its a disgrace.'" ...

... "ATF has long held that by installing a vertical fore grip on a handgun, the handgun is no longer designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand. Therefore, if individuals install a vertical fore grip on a handgun, they are 'making' a firearm requiring registration with ATF's NFA Branch. Making an unregistered 'AOW' is punishable by a fine and 10 years imprisonment. Additionally, possession of an unregistered 'AOW' is also punishable by fine and 10 years imprisonment." ...

"Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently delivered these remarks at the American Enterprise Institute:"

"I'm talking today about the use of foreign law in American judicial opinions, and most of what I have to say is unfavorable, so I feel I should begin by pointing out that I am not a xenophobe. ..." ...

"If there was any thought absolutely foreign to the founders of our country, it was the notion that we Americans should be governed the way Europeans are. In Number 46 of the Federalist, to take just one example, James Madison speaks contemptuously of the governments of Europe which are 'afraid to trust the people with arms.' Are we now to revise the Second Amendment because of what these other countries think?" ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A new bill would let the city fine dealers and makers who sell illegal guns $100,000 for each violation of a "code of conduct."

Brooklyn Councilman David Yassky said yesterday he would introduce the bill this week.

While Mayor Bloomberg didn't immediately comment on the proposed legislation, Yassky said he's confident that the mayor will support the bill because it's similar to one he signed that would allow New Yorkers to sue illegal gun dealers and manufacturers.

That bill was recently overridden by Congress, however.

So this time Yassky hopes that if you can't sue them - then fine them.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

OK, let's see if we have this straight. The National Rifle Association is arguing that carrying a gun makes you less safe when the public can see the record on your concealed-weapons permit.

Who other than Florida lawmakers would be suckers enough to buy that argument?

A bill by state Rep. Sandy Adams would deny all access to these records. This means the public would be prevented even from checking to see if their local government is following the law when it grants these permits. In doing so, it would treat gun owners differently than anyone else seeking licenses to drive a car.

If there is a burning need to protect gun owners' privacy, then lawmakers could exempt parts of the records, like addresses. But leave the names public.

"Lawmakers on the Joint Committee on Legislative Facilities recently passed a rule repealing the provision that only law-enforcement officers can carry weapons, concealed or otherwise, at the State House. The late-March change passed with little notice and no media attention at the time. As of Friday, the public-conduct rules posted at the State House had still not been updated, and the meeting minutes have not yet been released."
