It does not include simply posting comments, but rather, should be something selected by the editors for standalone attributed publication. The letter can be a response to something previously published or it can introduce the readership to something new." ... |

"I spent my Easter at a shooting range about an hour west of my home. My wife had to work and I did not have plans to see family, so had some extra time ..."
"While on my way to and from the range is a drive down a Mississippi country highway that takes me through mostly timberland and cattle country. While on that drive I got to thinking why I love guns so much. Was it because I liked the sensation and the sounds and smells of an explosion? If it was, I can get that thrill by using fireworks and I dont buy fireworks. While I do enjoy shooting, the enjoyment alone obviously cant be the reason why. Im also not a hunter, so obviously thats not why I own guns. The reason why I own firearms is simply because I can." ... |

"Weve all heard that amusingly hypocritical line, 'Lay in a big supply before the hoarders get it all!' Indeed, we shooters all lived through that in 2008 and for a good time after. People who feared the Obama administration would make good on the new Presidents previously declared wishes to ban assault rifles bought up every AR15 and AK47 clone in sight, and ammo was so scarce people were waiting in line to buy the six measly boxes that WalMart allowed per customer. Some of those folks in line were gun dealers, who took the six boxes back to their own shops to sell for inflated prices." ... |

"The Zastava M88 is an interesting little pistol, with a short-lived history as a military sidearm. It's a derivative of the Russian Tokarev pistol design, which itself drew a great deal from Colt and Browning designs of its day. But it's a modern handgun designed in 1987 and chambered in 9mm. As in, Parabellum, not Makarov."
"The M88 was intended to replace the aging Tokarevs issued to the Yugoslavian police but was quickly replaced by the Zastava CZ 99, which gets a story of its own another day. "Twenty-one feet is the anecdotal distance that separates self-defense from murder. Its based on work done by Sergeant Dennis Tueller. Tueller timed volunteers to see how quickly a determined attacker could cover 21 feet (about 1.5 seconds). In doing so, he identified a dilemma for anyone involved in a potential DGU. If you use a firearm to defend yourself at too great a range, you are at risk for being charged with murder. However, as Tueller demonstrated, 21 feet of separation can disappear in a flash . . ." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53 |
