"The Huffingtonpost.com has reported that the man who threatened House Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) had a concealed carry permit. Josh Shugarmann, the author of the piece (and executive director of the [VPC] in Washington, DC), interviewed the brother of the live-in partner of Norman Leboon who says Norman is 'a giant loon'. According to Sugarmann, Norman's brother searched his house several times trying to find and confiscate his brother's gun."
"OK. There are people with CCW permits who make threats. There are people who have committed actual gun crimes while they had a valid concealed carry permit. Point made and accepted. ... We must not lose the concept of the forest because we have become fixated on one blighted tree." ... |

... "We fought a bloody revolution against the British that America might become a nation of laws. The Founders ... carefully constructed a Constitution that would ensure there would never again be need for armed revolution in America. That is, so long as the Constitution is never violated; to guard against usurpation of that sacred document, the Second Amendment guarantees the rights enshrined therein."

... "The Second Amendment ... in order to ensure 'the security of a free State,' guarantees citizens the right 'to keep and bear Arms.' This seminal document from 1791 does not go on to define 'Arms,' but most Americans are pretty sure the founding Fathers didn't mean automatic weapons or Glocks with their incredible stopping power. And these weren't little .22 caliber pistols sported by the out-of-uniform Montecito Starbucks warriors, but much larger and more menacing handguns in the Glock or Sig Sauer range they appeared huge and menacing on the hip. The founding Fathers were basically thinking of long weapons rifles and shotguns, with which a citizen militia could prevent overthrow of the Constitution." ... |

In February he was sitting at a table at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference ... handing out fliers and selling T shirts for his organization, the Oath Keepers. I was surprised by your statement, "One of the fruitcake arguments spouted by rabid advocates of the Second Amendment is their need to possess weapons to protect themselves from the government" (Cheers & Jeers, April 2).
That is precisely the reason the Bill of Rights is included in the Constitution: to protect us from the government. Who else could restrict our right to speech, assembly, press and about 15 other rights? The Founding Fathers knew despots invariably restricted these rights and called in the weapons once a country was conquered. Those "fruitcake arguments" made sure a despotic administration could not do the same to us.
Thank heavens for the "rabid advocates" who wrote our Constitution. |

"Even among gun advocates, opinions are mixed over the bill that would allow Arizonans to carry concealed weapons without a permit or hands-on training."
"At Shooter's World in Phoenix, some, like Susette Tenney, voiced support for the bill that Brewer is expected to sign into law next week. She said gun owners should not have to buy a permit from the government to carry concealed weapons."
"'I'm carrying a gun and it's going in my purse and I want the right to do that,' she said."
