"A bill that would strip Washington citizens of a unique self-defense protection is being fast-tracked by its sponsor, anti-gun State Rep. Ross Hunter (D-48th District), who unveiled the measure on Saturday and has it scheduled for a hearing before the House Ways & Means Committee which he chairs on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Olympia."

Submitter's comment: Sad to say, this weasel is my own state rep. Rest assured I've given them an earful. Won't you do the same? Mark, co-editor, KABA.com

"It seems that this year more than ever, increasing numbers of state legislatures are considering expanding concealed carry rights. As firearms are a hot-button issue, the print medium in particular has noticeably increased its coverage. One tactic the media love to employ is to interview and quote individuals on both sides of the issue, and when it comes to firearms, more opponents tend to be interviewed. But this is really a blessing in disguise as it offers proponents like ourselves a glimpse into the mind of the other side." ...

The Truth About Arming Teachers

... "Thus in the mind of a bureacrat, teachers-with-guns is inherently bad. And statistically, a bad gamble. The number of schools versus the number of school shootings (no matter how sensational in the media) present very long odds that your school will be next. The chance of an accidental shooting is much, much higher."

"So denying guns to teachers has no real downside, unless youre real unlucky. Then what? Almost every investigation I've led has had management ask the following two questions: Did we have a plan? Did you follow the plan? It's the way of the bureacrat. Nothing warms the cockles of a bureaucrat's heart like 'we had a plan, we followed the plan!'" ...

... "After Goddard became outspoken about gun control, he was enlisted as the subject of a 40-minute documentary called "Living for 32," about the 32 victims of Cho's rampage. But at the time of the Virginia Tech shootings in 2007, accomplished documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple already was focusing on the issue of guns in America. Goddard is now at the center of that 90-minute film, 'Gun Fight,' which premieres Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. on HBO, three days before the fourth anniversary of the Tech shootings."

"It's a remarkable movie because it gives extensive, almost equal, time to gun rights advocates. ..." ...

"When [the Tucson shooter] opened fire at a Tucson shopping center in January, killing six people and seriously wounding U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, he might or might not have been directly influenced by Sarah Palins map that marked Giffords district in crosshairs. And we might never know."

"Nevertheless, the map clearly represented a culture of violent talk that has become all too pervasive in tea party circles and the right-wing media that influence them. Each and every act of violent symbolism encourages a violent mindset that can all too easily incite the mentally unstable to violent action." ...

... "But events have rushed along since Virginia Tech, and Ms. Kopple has had to account for, among other developments, the Supreme Court decision last year in McDonald v. Chicago (a victory for gun-rights advocates) and the assassination attempt against Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona in January. This leaves 'Gun Fight,' which makes its debut Wednesday night on HBO, with a contingent, slightly queasy work-in-progress quality. The real question isnt whos right or wrong, but whats next." ...

"A week after she and her husband found a live bomb from the Korean War era in a bathroom wall of their home, St. Francis resident Sally Ann Wittman says the discovery now seems almost unreal."

"Wittman's 70-year-old husband, William, was doing some remodeling on a portion of the bathroom wall on April 5. Wittman was pulling out old insulation when he felt something in the wall, his wife said."
-------

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: The reporter refers to it as a "bomb" and a "missile." When I read the description, I thought it might be a mortar round. And a commenter suggested a bazooka round. Also, it was probably deactivated but nobody checked. Doesn't anybody know anything anymore?

"This week, the picture is finally complete. First, the Obama White House decided to leap headfirst into the gun control debate. Then came the response from Congress, which is far more interested in investigating the "Fast and Furious" scandal, in which federal agents allowed thousands of guns to be 'walked' into Mexico and furnished to drug cartels. And now the final piece: President Barack Obama has filed his papers to run for re-election."
