A man who allegedly held a teen runaway captive inside the car they were living in for two weeks was arrested Monday after the 16-year-old girl broke free and sought help from a Kingsley homeowner, police say.
She ran to a nearby house and was calling for help when the man allegedly forced his way into the residence and refused the homeowner's order to leave. The resident grabbed a decorative, inoperable firearm from the wall and pushed the man out with the help of friends, deputies reported.
As that happened, authorities arrived at the scene and arrested the Buckley man for home invasion and domestic assault.
Submitter's note: They don't even have to be real guns to save lives. |

In a victory for the University of Florida, the state Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to take up a dispute about whether guns should be allowed in university housing. The Supreme Court issued a brief order saying it would not hear an appeal by the gun-rights group Florida Carry, Inc. The decision let stand a 1st District Court of Appeal ruling in October that upheld a ban on firearms in residence halls and other school housing. |

Recently Michael Cargill with Central Texas Gunworks tried to go through Austin City Hall security with his gun. Security told him he couldn't have the gun inside and soon pointed him to the city's law department. Cargill says Senate Bill 273, which went into effect on September 1st, gives Second Amendment advocates some options when governmental entities put up signs banning citizens from carrying where it's legal. |

As the April 19 New York presidential primary approached, Hillary Clinton sought to draw a contrast with rival Bernie Sanders on gun policy. During an April 11 appearance in Port Washington, N.Y., for what was billed as a "conversation on gun violence," Clinton took issue with Sanders characterization of his home state, Vermont, in the gun policy debate. Sanders has said that Vermonters have a more tolerant attitude toward guns than more urbanized states like New York, because of their states small, rural nature.

In the 2012 movie Skyfall, James Bond brandishes his trusty sidearm, but with a high-tech twist: Theres a sensor in the grip that reads palm prints so only he can fire it. The souped-up firearm saves the secret agents life, and in the real world, similar technology could do the same for thousands. Or so says Ron Conway, an avuncular Silicon Valley billionaire trying to disrupt the gun industry. |

The White House reacted Tuesday to New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton's comments on gun control in the wake of the shooting death of former Saints player Will Smith. "It sounds like he's somebody who's speaking from a position of great tragedy," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said, via USA Today. "He clearly has lost a former player and someone who he's said publicly has meant a lot to him. There's a lot of pain and emotion in that quote, that expression." |

The parents of a man charged in the fatal shooting of a Northern Arizona University student last fall say they will remove all guns from their home and relocate to Coconino County, if necessary, should a judge agree to release their son. Superior Court Judge Dan Slayton rejected a request in February to allow Steven Jones to live with his parents in Maricopa County pending trial. But the judge left open the possibility of home confinement once he had more information on monitoring, access to weapons, potential searches of Jones' parents' home and counseling. |

Gun maker Beretta USA is opening a new factory on Friday, the culmination of generous land and tax offers in Tennessee and restrictive gun laws at its old Maryland location. Beretta USA is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at the recently built facility in Gallatin, Tennessee, on April 15, having moved all manufacturing from Maryland. The new factory is 160,000 square feet, compared to 115,000 square feet if left behind, said Gabriele de Plano, vice president of defense marketing and operations for Beretta USA. |

Saying theyre exempt, state representatives voted Tuesday to allow themselves to carry their guns onto the House floor. On a party-line vote, the Republican majority beat back a proposal by Democrats to enact a new rule to forbid any person from entering the House building while armed. The only exception would be for peace officers acting in their official capacities. |

Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton has been caught in a cleverly crafted fib about Vermont being a major source of illegal guns in New York, which should give voters in both states pause, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today. "Today's Washington Post Fact Checker just handed Hillary a brutal 'Three Pinocchios' for what it says is 'a significantly misleading impression' Clinton created about Vermont being a major source of crime guns in the Empire State," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. |

Ready, aim, learn how to fire. That's what dozens of women in Naples are doing right now. Properly educating themselves for if or when they decide to buy a gun. Their instructor? A woman who knows a thing or two about pulling the trigger. Class was in session in Naples, and this isn't the first one of the day. So many women signed up, they added a second one, and there still weren't enough spots. |

President Obama wants us to politicize gun deaths in America. I decided to take him up on his invitation. I hope that no one is surprised that Obama took this opportunity again to attack guns, the gun industry, and those of us who are fans of the Second Amendment. This is what a community organizing career politician does. For liberals like Obama, virtually everything is, or must be made, political. Because political problems require political solutions, and thus, when something is politicized, those in favor of empowering and growing government get to do what they do best: give speeches, call for legislation, and attempt to stir up the electorate in their favor. |

Gov. Paul LePage has a signed into law a bill prohibiting most private landlords who accept public housing vouchers from barring guns in their apartments. The proposal is backed by the National Rifle Association, which has long fought to strike down gun bans in public housing. The new law, inspired by a shooting last year by a Rockland man who confronted an intruder in his apartment, goes even further. It will determine whether private property owners who receive public subsidies, such as federal Section 8 housing vouchers, can prevent their tenants from possessing guns on the property.

It may not be anywhere close to Christmas yet, but you already have a list and youre checking it twice. Whether youre thinking of getting that hunter in your life a new shotgun, or a carry gun for someone who just got a Right-to-Carry permit, firearms are still a very popular gift item. For those who have never gifted a gun before, it may seem as simple as going to a store and picking one up. |

Want to know what is on the minds of the American shooting public? Try answering the mail addressed to American Rifleman for a while. And this month, anyway, it seems to be the M1 carbine. Between When the Deer Come Running about its use in combat in Korea, and Kelly Youngs story Inlands Return: (Re)producing Quality, it seems we have caused a retro, walnut-stocked tsunami of interest in the M1 Carbine. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S. Brown, Prohibition Fever, NationalReview.com |
