Like his own car he set on fire, the whereabouts of Joseph Jakubowski are up in smoke as the massive manhunt intensifies. More than 150 law enforcement officers, both local and federal, are searching for the Janesville, Wisconsin man whose anger with the government and police is highlighted by a 161-page manifesto mailed to President Donald Trump. As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, approximately 650 tips have been received on the tip lines and investigators are actively pursuing more than 125 tips.

A man charged in a shooting at Rodeway Inn on Friday is facing new charges after police said he gave them a fake name when he was arrested. Marin Ramirez Rosales gave police the name Ruben Gonzalez when he was arrested. Court documents say police learned his name was Rosales on Tuesday after running his fingerprints through an automated fingerprint identification system.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) reported that 73,880 permits to carry a handgun were issued by county sheriffs in 2016 � the highest number of permits in a single year since the Minnesota Legislature implemented firearm permit laws in 2003. In comparison, 44,696 permits were issued in 2015.

The government watchdog group, Judicial Watch, is suing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to release all communication records about a proposal to reclassify certain ammunition for the AR-15 rifle as "armor piercing." The Obama administration, through the Department of Justice, had sought the reclassification in early 2015, a plan that more than 200 members of Congress opposed.

For the second time in the past year, a gun manufacturer has announced plans to begin making firearms in Tennessee. SSCY Industries LLC, which specializes in making pistols and sidearms in Daytona Beach, Fla, said today it plans to construct a 150,00-square-foot facility in Maryville that will create more than 350 jobs when it is in full operation next year. The $22.5 million plant will become the primary manufacturing facility for SCCY.

With one stroke of a pen, Gov. Terry Branstad is poised to make Iowa one of the friendliest states for gun owners. Lawmakers have passed a bill that many say is the most comprehensive and broadest piece of legislation on gun rights the state has seen. The legislation would, among other things, allow citizens to use deadly force if they believe their lives are threatened and to sue local government officials if they think gun-free zones have violated their Second Amendment rights.

The United States Concealed Carry Association was proud to honor the best in the industry during the USCCA Members' Choice Awards at the 3rd Annual USCCA Concealed Carry Expo in Fort Worth, TX on Saturday evening. During the celebration featuring nationally known comedian and 2nd Amendment supporter Steven Crowder, all honorees were announced and the top three finalists in each category were named. Iowa is set to become the latest state to allow gun owners to keep firearms at their side while visiting the state Capitol, a move that has raised questions about how security workers would deal with armed visitors. A teddy bear on display Wednesday in Chicago is not soft or furry, cute or cuddly. It is metallic gray and has a gun barrel with a capacity for six bullets as its muzzle. The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence launched the new public awareness campaign � titled "Teddy Gun" and produced by local ad agency FCB Chicago � to raise awareness of gun violence. It aims to highlight the lack of government oversight in gun manufacturing by pointing out that plush toys are subject to more federal safety standards and regulations than guns.

A Delaware County woman is accused of illegally selling nearly a dozen guns. According to police, she lied about where the guns came from, then sold them to known criminals. "In February 2012, she purchased her first Ruger firearm," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said Wednesday.

The parents of five African American boys are demanding an apology from the Grand Rapids Police Department after officers drew guns on them last month. The boys, ages 12 to 14, were confronted, ordered to the ground and handcuffed by police with guns drawn.

Chicago police arrested 57 people and seized eight guns Tuesday night, in a series of raids targeting drug dealers and gang members. Organized Crime Bureau Chief Anthony Riccio said the department targeted more than 100 people with a history of gang ties, firearm arrests, and drug convictions. �The individuals targeted are gang members who deal drugs and carry guns,� he said. �Violence is the common denominator that puts these individuals and their dope business on our radar.�

It's a startling statistic: criminals are getting their hands on an increasing number of stolen guns. In 2016, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives saw a 51 percent jump in gun thefts compared to 2015. Cherokee Firearms is a gun shop in Springfield that tries to guard against the troubling trend. Owner Debbie Newman says accessories to keep firearms secure are a necessity both in homes and in stores.

After hearing testimony that a Findlay man broke into a home armed with a rifle before he was shot and killed, a Hancock County grand jury determined charges shouldn�t be filed against the shooter. Trey D. James, 24, was shot multiple times Dec. 9 inside a home in the 200 block of George Street, near the University of Findlay after indicating to several men inside that he had a weapon � a stolen AR-15-style rifle. In response, one man � Travis Baldridge, 22, of Findlay � shot him at least five times, police said.

A North Miami police officer will face criminal charges for shooting the unarmed caretaker of an autistic man last summer � one of a string of questionable police shootings of black men nationwide that sparked protests. Officer Jonathan Aledda was arrested and charged Wednesday with a felony count of attempted manslaughter, and a misdemeanor charge of culpable negligence.

Contrary to what the National Rifle Association and other such organizations would have us believe, we can regulate the ownership and use of firearms without offending the Second Amendment. In the U.S. Supreme Court's Heller decision, Justice Antonin Scalia found an individual right to a firearm, but qualified it: �[T]he right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited. [It is] not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose. [P]rohibitions on carrying concealed weapons [are] lawful under the Second Amendment or state analogues.

The Senate on Wednesday endorsed a Kalispell legislator�s proposal to allow lawmakers to carry concealed handguns in the Capitol. If it passes on a final vote Thursday, it then heads to the governor�s desk. Rep. Randy Brodehl�s House Bill 280 would allow concealed carry for state representatives on all state property, with the exception of state prisons.

Nebraska lawmakers signaled Wednesday they intend to pull rank on local elected officials when it comes to regulating guns. The Legislature voted 32-12 to advance a bill that would require state law to override municipal gun regulations in Nebraska. Supporters of the measure narrowly defeated a filibuster by senators who argued that cities and villages ought to control firearm possession and require handgun registration in their communities.
