"The flap over Jim Zumbo's comments about so-called assault weapons brought the rift among gun owners into the public spotlight. ... his comments show that some gun owners, and advocacy groups, are content to fight their own battle against gun confiscation unaware of the danger that poses for the movement as a whole."
"Instead of only being concerned with protecting shotguns, pistols or target rifles from future legislative bans all gun owners should work for everyones individual right to bear arms. While specific advocacy groups have their place under the pro-gun umbrella each should fight, at all costs, legislation that bans any gun regardless of is use. Despite claims to the contrary... anti-gunners want to confiscate all guns ..." ... |

"Restrictions on the private ownership, conveyance or use of firearms by any government federal, state or local is an Unconstitutional violation of the 2nd amendment which establishes an absolute barrier to efforts to legislate away the 'right of the people to keep and bear arms'."
"This extremist view of the Second Amendment is central to the philosophy of the National Rifle Association. The NRA, funded in large part by the manufacturers of firearms and ammunition, lobbies fiercely against any legislation regulating firearms as violative of their interpretation of this Constitutional principle." ... |

I am incredulous after reading the comment in the national media by Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, that she is scared of her neighbor across the street from her new $4.3 million home because he is a Republican, has put up a Rudy Giuliani yard sign and, even worse, owns a gun.
That pesky Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution has been getting in the way of liberals for a number of years.
With any luck, if her husband is elected, she can persuade him to do away with personal liberties once and for all so that these onerous pestilent violations of the liberal creed can never harm Americans again.

"Despite being denied a permit by police to buy a handgun last month, Anthony LaCalamita III had no trouble buying a shotgun a few weeks later."
"Police say the accountant bought the 12-gauge shotgun Friday -- the day after he was fired -- and used it Monday to shoot three people at his former office in a Detroit suburb, killing a secretary and wounding two executives."
"LaCalamita, 38, was able to buy the shotgun because Michigan, like all but four states, doesn't require a permit to buy a shotgun or rifle. The state is one of only 12 states that require background checks for handgun buyers, but those buying shotguns or rifles need only pass an FBI criminal background check."
"The discrepency is a legal loophole that needs to be closed, say gun control advocates like Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence." ... -------
KABA Note: The UK's incredibly strict checks did not keep Thomas Hamilton from murdering 16 children at Dunblane, nor can any checks predict the actions of deranged individuals. But perhaps by "loophole" Mr. Helmke means "the ability to purchase a firearm". |

A man was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after he was shot by a 19-year-old, officials said Thursday.
The victim, 27-year-old Larryjoe Dillavou, was taken to Halifax Medical Center Wednesday night in serious condition after he was shot in the upper thigh, said Edgewater police spokeswoman Lisa Saunders.
Officers arrived at 19-year-old Henry Pressman's house on Travelers Palm Drive around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Saunders said.
No charges have been filed so far, Saunders said, as investigators think Pressman possibly shot Dillavou in self-defense.
The shooting remains under investigation. |
