The reciprocal concealed carry amendment would allow anyone with a permit to carry a concealed weapon in any state to use carry the gun legally any other state.

Asa Hutchinson currently runs the NRAs National School Shield program. Prior to that, he was named Administrator of the DEA in 2001, then Under Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security in 2003. In 1982, President Reagan appointed him as the youngest United States Attorney in the nation. Later in Arkansas, he was elected to three terms in Congress. Gun control is certainly no laughing matter unless, of course, its talked about on Saturday Night Live.
The popular sketch show opened this week with a parody featuring actors portraying President Obama and the two senators who reached a compromise on background checks last week.
In the sketch, Obama, played by Jay Pharoah, jokingly explains that all of his work in trying to enact gun reform has resulted, so far, only in the prospect of a debate of the issue.
As you know, over the past few months, I have made gun control legislation a top priority for my administration, Pharoah says. Which is why I am so excited to announce that this week the Senate voted 68 to 31 to begin debating the idea of discussing gun control.

Here is the fundamental issue in this gun control debate fairness in sentencing when one is faced with a gun-law violation.
Common sense has fallen by the wayside. Having represented many individuals wrongfully accused of gun charges, each case must be assessed on a case-by-case basis with particular attention to the facts, circumstances and the offense as well as the individual charged.
Are you a criminal if you lawfully possess a weapon and have a carry permit to bring that gun to New Jersey? State law says yes. In fact, you face mandatory sentencing under the Graves Act. New Jersey law posseses the harshest and most draconian laws as it pertains to gun-law violations.

Langtry Cafe in Brownsdale always had a bit of a Western theme, but now thats accentuated on Thursdays.
Owner Steve Nagel has hosted two permit to carry courses at his restaurant with instructor Gregory Reis, and now hes passing the savings onto those who proudly support the Second Amendment. Every Thursday, those who conceal carry get 15 percent off, and those who open carry get 25 percent off.
It was kind of a tongue-in-cheek situation that really took off, Nagel said. ...
Cheryl [Steves wife] and I are strong supporters of the Second Amendment, and so are most of my customers, Nagel said.

"Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse in which false information is presented with the intent of making a victim doubt his or her own memory, perception, and sanity." Over and over the same old reassurances are trotted out -- "We support the Second Amendment. Your guns are safe". Yeah right!

Maybe the hope and intention is that by spouting 'the right thing' often enough, perhaps folks will come to eventually believe it. We are however familiar with smoke and mirrors, all mixed in with a full dose of tired old rhetoric - better known as the infamous 'broken record' or plain old propaganda, aimed at the gullible."

Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday said a gun manufacturer that has decided to leave Connecticut should "come on down" to the Lone Star State.
PTR Industries, a maker of military-style rifles, threatened to leave Connecticut after the passage of one of the toughest gun-control laws in the United States. Connecticut enacted the measure in the wake of the Newtown school shooting that killed 20 first-graders and six adults.
"Hey, PTR," Perry posted on Twitter on Friday. "Texas is still wide open for business!! Come on down!"
The Connecticut law bans high-capacity ammunition clips of the kind used in the December school shooting and adds to the firearms covered by the state's assault-weapons ban.

While gun-control legislation is a politically risky vote for red-state Democrats, its also an issue that could hurt the GOPs efforts to attract female voters.
A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows that 65 percent of women favor stronger gun laws, compared to 44 percent of men. Thats consistent with previous polling; a recent Quinnipiac University poll showed 61 percent of women and 45 percent of men in favor stricter gun laws.
Richard Feldman, the Independent Firearms Association president and a former NRA lobbyist, said that the gender gap on gun laws is a long-standing one, and that much of it has to do with who owns guns.

Speaking exclusively to NBC News, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is the first GOP senator to say publicly she will vote for the bipartisan compromise on expanded background checks for the sale of guns online and at gun shows.

Collins said "I do intend to support it" now that she has reviewed the actual text of the Manchin-Toomey bill and calls it a "reasonable" approach. Collins described the Manchin-Toomey effort as "a responsible break through from two people who have far better NRA rankings than I have...

Collins is a critical "yes" vote for the families and Democrats who need Republican support to pass expanded background checks.

While I have come to expect the type of propaganda in Leah Gunn Barrett's letter "Gun laws should put safety before profits," April 7, from her New Yorkers Against Gun Violence organization, her letter's implication that New Yorkers are stupid is more prevalent than usual. Ms. Barrett contends the "(NY SAFE Act) is consistent with the Second Amendment and has the support of the majority, including gun owners." While the former assertion will no doubt be decided by the courts, I have yet to meet a gun owner or police officer who supports the legislation.

The bipartisan deal on expanded background checks for gun buyers appeared Sunday to garner more Republican support, but Capitol Hill leaders could not say whether the overall gun-control bill will have enough votes as the full debate begins this week.
The legislation will need 60 votes to pass in the chamber, which means it will need Republican support for Senate Democrats facing re-election in gun-friendly districts.
"It's an open question as to whether or not we have the votes, Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey told CNNs State of the Union. I think it's going to be close."

Guns are on the docket in Congress and dozens of state legislatures. Can the Supreme Court be far behind?

The court may decide as early as Monday to consider whether the Second Amendment's right to keep a gun for self-defense extends outside the home.

The case under consideration is a challenge to New York's law that requires "proper cause" to carry a weapon in public. Ten states, including California, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maryland, have similar restrictions. Most have been challenged in court.

The first substantive vote in the gun rights debate this week. It is on the Toomey-Manchin amendment to expand background checks.

I will vote no. This amendment would impose a background check system that is overly broad, vague, and ultimately ineffective. And despite the assurances of its supporters, it could easily evolve into a national gun registry that would be an intrusion into the privacy and lives of the American people.

On Thursday, I voted yes to start the debate because this is a debate Republicans should want. This is a debate we can win.

Gottlieb issued the following statement: "If you read the Manchin-Toomey substitute amendment, you can see all the advances for our cause that it contains like interstate sales of handguns, veteran gun rights restoration, travel with firearms protection, civil and criminal immunity lawsuit protection, and most important of all, the guarantee that people, including federal officers, will go to federal prison for up to 15 years if they attempt to use any gun sales records to set up a gun registry. These advances for gun rights can not be made unless we win the Senate vote on Tuesday to substitute Senators Manchin and Toomey's balanced approach for the current draconian background check bill that is pending before the Senate at this time."

Indeed, self-defense is now the top reason gun owners cite for having a firearm, a new survey shows, a figure that has nearly doubled since 1999.

But even after years of study, there is little clarity on how, exactly, Americans use guns to protect themselves in moments of jeopardy - or how often. Researchers known for sharp disagreement on the self-defense riddle say the answers may be shifting dramatically because of a steep drop in crime, an increase in guns and state laws giving owners more leeway to wield them.

Sixty-eight senators, pressured by the families of those killed in gun violence, came together last week to overcome a filibuster threat that would have quashed the debate on a broader gun bill. But many of those votes are clearly not translating into yes votes for the only background check measure that has attracted bipartisan support.

This bipartisan bill, the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act does NOT take guns away from Veterans.

Expands gun ownership rights for active duty service members; and helps reduce the stigma of seeking help for PTSD, and impact on 2nd Amendment rights, by fixing an unfair VA system.

FACT This amendment fixes an outdated law and allows active duty service members and their spouses to purchase guns in their home state, as well as their duty station. Current law unfairly restricts them to only buying guns in the state where they are stationed.

Scott D. Camassar, the attorney representing DAFR, said the laws do not place enough emphasis on school safety or mental health issues and constrain law-abiding gun owners.

"Disabled individuals have unique needs when it comes to lawful use of firearms, whether it be recreational or competitive shooting, hunting, home defense, or personal self-defense, and they rely on safe, customizable firearms like the AR-15 in order to effectively participate in these lawful activities," Camassar said. "Cosmetic features like forward grips and adjustable stocks do not make a rifle more lethal, nor do factory-standard magazines that hold more than 10 bullets."

Despite the gender gap over gun laws, vocal female 2nd Amendment supporters are increasingly making efforts to educate American women about the benefits of gun ownership, particularly for the purpose of self-defense.

A recent article in Women & Guns urges women to:

Go public. Let your friends and coworkers know you are a gunowner. There is nothing belligerent about owning firearms. Rather, for years I have been advocating that women show that they own and use guns, because women are not threatening. It softens the face of the gunowner to the general public when they learn that the sweet little old ladies and the charming young women are part of that group that the media tries so hard to demonize.
