A few weeks back I reviewed my go-to gun � a Sig Sauer P226 TACOPS � and asked our audience to share their go-to gun. We got a lot of responses but one that rose above the rest was the Sig P229. This gun from Sig has many variations but today we�re taking a look at the Enhanced Elite model from the Guns.com Vault. I�m a fan of all-metal guns and, for this reason, I really enjoyed the Enhanced Elite Sig P226 TACOPS with its anodized aluminum frame and stainless-steel slide with Sig Nitride coating. The gun has a better grip and feels more substantial in the hand. The one-piece E2 grip from Sig is really great. It�s like sandpaper and it sticks to my hand, ensuring a firm purchase on the gun. |

Reversing course, Crow Wing County Board Chairman Paul Koering pulled a Second Amendment-related resolution from the agenda at the board�s Tuesday, April 14, meeting. Koering said last week he intended to make a motion to approve the resolution, which if passed would designate the county as �Second Amendment dedicated.� Three other commissioners � Steve Barrows, Bill Brekken and Doug Houge � told the Dispatch Friday they would prefer an official public comment period before consideration.

Recent closing of the Buffalo National River closes all use of the Buffalo National River Wildlife Management Area until further notice, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. This includes no angling in this section of the Buffalo, as well as turkey hunting within this wildlife management area during the upcoming season. |

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced Tuesday that hunters can now check the results of the 2020 nonresident combination and elk and deer permit drawing to see if they were successful. To view drawing results online go to MyFWP and click on "Lookup Draw Results, Register for Lists� tab, or login to your MyFWP account. To sign up for an account go to fwp.mt.gov/myfwp. Expanding Sunday hunting on three days: Nov. 15 for archery deer hunting; Nov. 22 for bear hunting during the bear firearms season; and Nov. 29 for deer hunting during the firearms deer season. |

It seemed Tennessee would be the first state to join the Constitutional Carry club in 2020. From an earlier article on Ammoland:
On 27 February, 2020, at 1 p.m., Governor Bill Lee announced he is proposing Constitutional Carry for Tennessee in 2020.
Both Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson and House Majority Leader William Lampeth endorsed the idea of Constitutional Carry. A specific statute was not in place when the announcement was made. With all three leaders endorsing the popular idea of Constitutional Carry, a bill seemed almost certain of passage.

To be clear, the Wuhan Coronavirus remains a public health threat in America. Americans should continue to follow the CDC guidelines, such as frequent hand washing, social distancing, proper respiratory hygiene and avoiding touching your face. Eventually, we�ll defeat this disease. Once we do, we need to review, what, if any of our civil liberties were stolen under the guise of a �national health emergency� and fight like hell to get them back.

I'm not writing this column by choice. I hate that I'm writing this column at all. The fact of the matter is that I feel forced to write this column because of the actions of power-mad, wannabe tyrants across the nation from governors down to local homeowners associations, yes homeowners associations.
For some reason, mine decided to send a letter letting the homeowners know they were �monitoring� the recent COVID19 outbreak and would �keep us informed of further decisions,� before �taking action� and �closing the tennis courts� until �further notice.� (They did mention that while they can't legally stop us from using the playground and tennis courts, if we violated their �order,� we were �on our own�)

With closures of so-called �non-essential� businesses to include gun stores in several jurisdictions, combined with shutdowns of public parks, national park facilities and even fishing and spring turkey and bear hunting in Washington State, the announcement by a police department in Connecticut that it will monitor �social distancing� with drones raises the question: Was liberty the real first casualty of the coronavirus?

California Assemblyman Miguel Santiago (D) is asking Governor Gavin Newsom (D) to suspend all ammunition sales in the state during the coronavirus shutdown. Moreover, he is asking that all firearm sales be suspended as well.
Santiago sent a letter to Newsom on April 13, 2020. The letter begins: �Thank you for the work that you and your administration have been doing to face down the COVID-19 pandemic. I am writing today to urge you to enact a statewide suspension of firearm and ammunition sales, with an exception for law enforcement and authorized peace officers.�

Whether it's wanting better accuracy or more power, inspiration for a new design in ammunition can come from many different sources and the result can be a significant advancement in cartridge design. For the .458 Lott, the inspiration was a near death encounter in Africa. Gun writer Jacques "Jack" Lott was hunting Cape buffalo with a .458 Winchester Magnum. He shot the buffalo, but could not stop it before it injured him. He returned from Africa on a quest to find or develop a cartridge more suitable for taking dangerous game.

In the U.S., common reasons for firearms possession are hunting, sport, and collection, but self-defense truly remains the main motive underlying gun possession. So it should not be surprising in this first season of the COVID-19 virus (a.k.a. Coronavirus, Wuhan Flu) that empty shelves in the markets appear at the same time as empty shelves in the gun shops. It's not that we expect to protect newly purchased rolls of toilet paper with these guns. |

America's leading gun-rights groups filed a pair of lawsuits challenging shutdown orders issued by the Democratic governors of New Mexico and Virginia. The National Rifle Association, Second Amendment Foundation, and Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) filed a federal suit against New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D.) on Friday over her emergency shutdown of gun stores.

A gun shop in Albuquerque plans to reopen despite a Public Health Order from the governor that says non-essential businesses must close through April 30. Louie Sanchez, owner of Calibers, said the order is an over-reach by the governor. "So, we at Calibers have decided that we are going to open up with social distancing on our range," Sanchez said. "And you know what, we're going to take this fight back to her. We feel that unless, somehow, she got a magical power to take the Second Amendment out of our constitution, that we have the right to open up. |

If we look back at the event delivering us into the age of sophisticated, defensive-handgun ammunition, we�ll find the primary failure that�s driven defensive-handgun-bullet development ever since was insufficient penetration. During the infamous FBI shootout in Miami in 1986, a 115-grain Winchester Silvertip bullet from a 9 mm hit the bad guy in the arm, continued into the chest seriously damaging the lung and then stopped an inch shy of the heart. In the aftermath of this incident, the FBI began its search for a better cartridge and bullet.
