KS: Text of Sebelius veto message on concealed carry bill

The text of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' message to legislators upon vetoing a bill allowing Kansans to carry concealed handguns:

"I support Kansans' Second Amendment rights. [Liar!] I support the Kansas Constitution, which also protects the people's right to bear arms. [LIAR!] I believe in every American's right to own and keep firearms. As a woman who has lived and raised children in an urban area, I understand the need for personal safety and self-defense.

"But as governor, I must consider what will make Kansans safer overall. I do not believe the widespread legalization of concealed firearms that House Bill 2798 would allow would make Kansans safer." ...

It is not about "safety" it is about freedom! It's time to demand that this lying dame go unarmed and that her guards go unarmed.

Try finding any actual gun safety training like this being offered by so-called gun safety advocates like the MMM, or Americans For Gun Safety. You won't find it, because they don't offer it.

"Keep your eye on the target, don't take your eye off him," instructor Dennis Lengle warns from behind.

Guns are serious, Lengle said. That's the tone at the concealed-carry course. The levity in the room the previous two nights of classroom instruction was left at the door.

"Gun handling versus marksmanship, what's more important? Gun handling," Lengle said. "You must demonstrate the proper knowledge, skills and attitude that's safety and how you act. Going out to the range once a year isn't going to cut it."

FONTANA -- "The alleged gunman in a drive-by shooting was booked on suspicion of killing the driver of the car during the attack, police said Tuesday."

"Passenger Richard Allen Eppard, 20, was firing a semiautomatic gun out the driver's side window Thursday when he shot Christopher Bonadiman, 20, of Fontana in the head, police said."

" 'I would say that this is probably one of the stupidest people we've come across in a very long time,' police Sgt. Mark Weissmann said."

Eppard, a Bloomington resident, had no criminal record before the shooting. He apparently missed whoever he was targeting during the attack, police said.

"Eddie Eagle was in several Pittsburgh-area schools this week to teach children about gun safety."

"If they're anywhere near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center Downtown this weekend, they'll have plenty of opportunities to try out their new lesson as the National Rifle Association's annual convention opens today -- promising 'four acres of guns and gear.' "

"Eddie Eagle's arrival just in time for the convention is no coincidence. The NRA created the Eddie Eagle program 15 years ago to teach children to tell adults if they see a gun." ...

The gun banners mislabel themselves as "gun safety advocates" yet they always oppose gun safety training that actually involves being trained in safe gun handling. We'll believe Sarah Brady supports gun safety when she supports the Eddie Eagle program or another one like it.

"Guns are everywhere in Detroit."

"Of the 114 homicides that have taken place in Detroit this year, almost 90 percent involved a gun."

"Despite recent citywide prayer vigils, public appeals by police and politicians to end gun violence, and Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's multi-agency task force charged with getting wanted felons off the streets, guns continue to kill and injure Detroiters at an alarming rate."

"During a four-hour span Tuesday night, Detroit police said nine people were shot. At least four of the victims were killed in the incidents, which included a carjacking and a shooting police said was drug-related." ...

A firearms instructor at an Orange County Sheriff's Department firing range accidentally shot a colleague in the leg, officials said.

The accident occurred at the Katella Training Facility Thursday, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

The 41-year-old civilian instructor was conducting an annual safety inspection on a deputy's pistol when it accidentally discharged. The bullet hit a 57-year-old nearby instructor, Amormino said.

The bullet went through his leg near his knee. He was taken to UCI Medical Center but was not believed to be seriously injured.

The shooting was being investigated to determine if safety rules or regulations were violated, Amormino said.

Calling for "severe consequences" against law enforcement officers crosses the line? What about calling for the public execution of Lon Horiuchi -- the murderer who shot unarmed Vicki Weaver in the head while she held her baby? Does that cross the line, too? If so, consider it crossed. Send in the Waco Killers. String Lon Horiuchi up from a tree.
