Its just a fact of life that handguns are now permanent legal fixtures in the American landscape. We have to live with that. But the freedom to own a firearm doesnt mean it has to be free of charge. It doesnt mean that owners cant be a tiny bit inconvenienced. And someones right to own a gun certainly does not trump the safety rights of the rest of us.

Its not about the guns its really about mental health. Thats what the NRA and gun-rights advocates trumpet every time theres another mass shooting in the United States or when confronted with the grim statistics of gun violence in this country. So, youd think, given that rhetoric, that gun-rights advocates would be in favor of Colorados new red-flag gun law, which seeks to temporarily not permanently remove guns from mentally disturbed individuals deemed a danger to themselves and others.

Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. The Boris the Blade quote from the movie "Snatch" came to mind as I hefted the used 3rd Gen Smith & Wesson Model 5906 in the used showcase at Indy Arms Company. The pistol showed all the hallmarks of being a former police-issue sidearm: scuffs and wear marks, a small divot chipped out of the MIM hammer spur where the gun had been dropped or smacked into a cruiser door, and a crosshatched network of scuffs on the lower right portion of the wrap-around Xenoy plastic grips, right where theyd been worn smooth by hundreds of hours of being rubbed up against squad car upholstery.

It's a pivotal time for the sport of hunting, especially among America's youth. Due to urbanization, endless activities for children, and the constant humming draw of electronics, kids are getting less exposure to the outdoors and showing even less interest in hunting.

Sadly, hunting has become a dying sport and yet you can do something about it.

By taking a child hunting, you keep the sport alive and help them become a hunter you can be proud of someone who is as writer Tim Ferris describes: "responsible, piercingly intelligent, ethical hunters who eat what they kill and who understand the subtleties of nature, including preserving the ecosystems around us."

Feinstein mentioned that the attack was handgun-based, then called for more gun control without mentioning what type of gun control she wants. Her go-to gun control for decades has been an assault weapons ban, and lately she is pushing for a ban similar to that in Australia and New Zealand. But such a ban would not have prevented the Virginia Tech attack, as the attacker used handguns.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771
