While THE TRACE, another Bloomberg creation, is touting a bogus study that attempts to claim guns are used more in suicides than for self defense, facts show otherwise.

According to data from an extensive study by Dr. Gary Kleck, Professor of Criminology at Florida State University, a firearm is used in self-defense approximately 2 million times a year. Don't believe Dr. Kleck? Even the very liberal, anti-gun CDC apparently admits to over 1 million self-defense uses of a firearm a year.

The notion that people are ultimately the ones who are responsible for their safety is starting to take hold once again in this country. Americans are fortunate to have some of the best-trained law enforcement officers in the world protecting them. The problem is, none of us have one of those officers assigned to us 24 hours a day. Because of this reality, the concealed carry of a handgun is becoming more prevalent. More states are enacting laws to support it, somewith whats called Constitutional Carryeven allow it without a permit.

Its been overwhelming, said Crosshairs Texas co-owner Troy Michalik. I cannot tell you a number of absolute first-time gun buyers that have been in the store, looking for some sort of self-protection.

Just background checks alone, matched with what the ATF and FBI were saying about their crisis, is trying to keep up, added Devon Michalik, Crosshairs Texas co-owner.

The couple quickly learned they needed to improvise how they do business.

The process of becoming a concealed carrier is far more complex than merely obtaining a concealed-carry license (where required). Once that is accomplished, one must then decide what handgun typerevolver or semi-automaticwill be carried. Then the caliber has to be chosen, and then what ammunition to use.

HR 6318, The Urban Progress Act, introduced by Representative Robin Kelly (D-IL), is one of those omnibus bills. The good news is, its been recently introduced, and with the text online, we can locate the problematic aspects of this bill, and expose them to the disinfectant of sunlight.

One thing to note: This bill has been referred to nine committees. In addition to the House Judiciary Committee, eight others will get a bite at this bill. Thats a lot of chefs in the kitchen. But one portion should be of particular note: Title III, titled Common Sense Gun Violence Prevention.

The state has been sued over all three during its shutdown as government officials pick winners and losers in deciding which businesses and activities can operate and which can't.
