"As the [NRA] convention wraps up with today's meeting of the Board of Directors here, CNN and other networks are recalling the last time Monday was on April 16 coincidentally the last time NRA met in this city and asking what the nation has learned in the five years since the Virginia Tech massacre."

"This column is en route today back to the Pacific Northwest, reflecting on the past weekends events, and what lies ahead for firearm civil rights. If one were to ask Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation ... the horizon is loaded with litigation."

"If one were to ask NRA officials, the days ahead could be perilous, indeed, if gun owners do not get out the vote." ...

"At the United Nations, the governments (and the dictatorships) of the world are conspiring to deny their people a means to defend their families and their liberty."

"The Small Arms Treaty and the U.N.'s project on International Small Arms Control Standards seek to impose global restrictions on gun ownership that would apply to Americans and the citizens of every country that ratified the agreements. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pledged to support the treaty, an excuse for governments everywhere to empower themselves and limit their citizens instead of the other way around."

"To be fair, Glenn Beck had never heard of Constitutional Carry. And the celebrity hadnt invited TTAG to his green room to discuss gun rights (even though we were at the NRAs annual meeting). We sold our chinwag as a chance to get to know Beck the gun guy: shooter, concealed carry permit holder and collector. Which we did. Heres the whole thing:" ...

"Despite anti-gun zealots exploitation of Trayvon Martins now-infamous killing in late February, a new survey revealed that the vast majority of Americans continue to support the use of deadly force if needed in self-defense even outside of the home. Laws permitting the carrying of concealed weapons have overwhelming public support as well, according to the Ipsos/Reuters poll released last week."

"A whopping 87 percent of respondents ... said they support laws allowing citizens to use deadly force to protect themselves from danger in their own homes. Less than 10 percent opposed such laws. "I am on record as hating small pistols. Except that I dont. I just havent found one that works with the kind of reliability I think a self defense weapon requires. My experience with my Kel Tec P3AT was dismal. The Rohrbaugh R9 I had generally functioned well, but was finicky about ammo, required recoil spring changes and cleaning frequently, had a funky tail hook mag release and its slippery as a bar of soap finish made it a difficult gun to enjoy shooting. The R9 is great for its occasional use design goal, but if I own a gun, I want to shoot it. Hopefully frequently . . ." ...

Once I settled on starting my CHL life with the M&P 45C that Smith & Wesson loaned me, I called up Comp-Tac to get some holsters to review. "It has been said that you can tell what a man truly worships by what really makes him angry. Evidently in my recent Column concerning the Trayvon Martin murder I tweaked some deeply devoted followers of the real 'American Idol': the Second Amendment to the Constitution. I was soundly hammered over my grief for Trayvon and his family, for the then injustice of his killer still walking free, and for the tragic and deadly proliferation of hand guns in America. Evidently the 'pistol packing papa's[sic]' don't like their 'concealed weapons of mass destruction' called into question. "The days of the lawless Wild West should be behind us. But as weve seen, there is plenty of shoot-em up violence across the country. Some is caused by crushing poverty and a culture of prejudice that infects all corners of our society. "After reading 'Romney; Obama will erode gun owners rights': It's so right. As you can see, for nearly three years now, the Obama administration since its first days in office has made a concerted effort to attack the rights of American gun owners. That it has chosen an operation of such magnitude, and the resulting cover-up equal in scope, to wage war against the Second Amendment speaks of the loathing this administration harbors for our freedom." ...

"Normally, I find myself agreeing with Don Clement and I often look forward to his letters to the editor. However, on the Second Amendment (Public Forum, April 13), I find myself completely disagreeing with him. He implies that the NRA isnt leading the charge for responsible gun use. In fact, they do encourage responsible gun use via their Eddie Eagle program. This is aimed directly at children. Eddie Eagles message? If the child finds a gun, they should, 'Stop. Dont touch. Leave the area. Tell an adult.'"

"Regarding overall firearms training nationwide, I agree with Clement that this could definitely be improved. However, North Carolinas concealed carry (CCW) program is highly regulated, and the training is rigorous." ...
