You can wave Old Glory down at the courthouse in Texas, but you surely can't post a sign on the door banning guns from the building. Courthouses, city halls and government buildings throughout the state routinely forbid Texans from freely carrying weapons, activists say, despite a law passed last year that imposes stiff penalties on officials who post such signs.

The Bushmaster AR-15 semiautomatic rifle used to kill 20 Connecticut schoolchildren and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 fired 154 rounds in about the time it takes to read this editorial. The weapon is a lethal beast, designed to inflict maximum casualties in combat � yet it is marketed to civilians who are more than likely not trained to handle it.

A man who shot and killed a Prince George's County firefighter Friday evening was released from police custody Saturday evening and police say "no charges have been placed at this time." The man claims he felt he was the victim of a home invasion and thought he was firing in self-defense, according to sources.

Detroit police are investigating a shootout at a gas station on Detroit's west side that killed one man and injured another. Sources said a woman was planning to meet a 22-year-old man at the Fuel Zone gas station on the corner of Fenkell Avenue and Evergreen Road at 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

KCSO officials have arrested 3 armed suspects in connection to the standoff at the Second Amendment Sports on Mohawk St. and Rosedale Highway on Sunday. According to KCSO, they responded to a burglary alarm at Second Amendment at around 3:30 this morning. The first suspect, 18-year-old Felipe Rodriguez, was detained by a K-9 unit after attempting to flee.

Texas A&M University and the affiliated universities in its system have embraced campus carry and will allow guns on campus with �few major restrictions.� The policy now formulated and �approved Chancellor John Sharp and A&M System legal staff� allows concealed carry permit holders to carry in classrooms and dorms. Exceptions will be dorms at Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M International University and A&M-Corpus Christi, each of which �have dorms that are leased by third-party companies.�

Hundreds of people attended the 18th Annual Kearney Gun and Coin Show at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds this weekend, which organizers said is a great way for guns to gain a positive message. With about 400 tables set up, organizers said approximately 200 vendors set up shop in the Expo Center at the fairgrounds. The two-day show gave several hundred visitors the ability to purchase guns from dealers all across the state.

Police sources have confirmed to the Fox 8 I-Team that four juveniles were arrested at Steelyard Commons Sunday night. The teens were taken into custody after someone called police and said they were walking around and pointed a gun at someone in the parking. Four teens were arrested and 3 airsoft guns were found.

Within one 24-hour period last month, two gun accidents involving Californians echoed briefly through the news. On March 6, Lana Meisner, wife of former Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, unintentionally shot and killed herself when she jostled a rifle stored in a closet in her Studio City residence. The following morning, the sound of a gunshot in a Sacramento home led a mother to discover her 2-year-old daughter bleeding on the floor.

A bill aimed at legalizing concealed carry on University of Alaska (UA) campuses has taken up a lot of oxygen in the halls of the State Capitol building this session, despite lawmakers� repeated refrain that all eyes should be focused on the budget. Even still, Senate Bill 174, sponsored by Sen. Pete Kelly (R-Fairbanks) has pushed its way through the Senate and has been moved from all but one committee of referral in the House.

The NYPD says Saturday's 'Cash for Guns' buyback in Queens was a success. The 105th Precinct tweeted a photo of the dozens of working guns taken off the street. There were 89 in total, including two assault weapons and 46 revolvers.

Two suspects are in custody after a police officer was shot while stopping a car theft in West Philadelphia. During a press conference Sunday night, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross identified the officer as James McCullough, who is assigned to the 18th District.
