"In a letter sent to Congress on Monday, the coalition urges politicians to oppose draft legislation prepared by the U.S. Justice Department and called the Domestic Security Enhancement Act (DSEA). The coalition includes groups as varied as the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Conservative Union, the Gun Owners of America, the American Baptist Churches, the U.S. Presbyterian Church and the Mennonite Central Committee. FULL TEXT BELOW:
So The Bee is not getting all the factual information it desires how does it feel? Not to say I don't agree, but it's interesting that the industry that picks and chooses what information to publish, even at times skewing with careful wording, has a problem with government bodies doing the same.
Did you ever consider that possibly the manner you sometimes choose to present the information is the reason they don't want it made public? That they don't fear the information itself being made public but the way it would be portrayed by the press?
I know if I had a concealed carry permit, for example, given your attitude toward guns, you'd be the last people I'd want to have that information on me. There's no telling what you'd do with it.

"Why aren't the Iraqi people rejoicing at their liberation? It's Stockholm Syndrome to the Nth degree. We gave these people cause to hope 12 years ago and some rebelled, only to be left high and dry for reasons that were never made clear, probably having to do with Iran. And many of them paid a heavy price. For years, TV news magazines have told us of the unbelievable nature of mind control in Iraq, the absolute ubiquity of Saddam's image in country. During World War II, the Germans and Japanese believed fervently in their leaders and causes. They had to be defeated, if not crushed, before they came to their senses and rejoined the family of civilized nations." |

"Under cover of darkness in the early morning hours Monday, Chicago's lakefront airport Meigs Field was closed after city construction crews carved a series of large, X-shaped portions of concrete out of the runway. After the airport closed operations at 11 p.m. Sunday, with no notice to the tower and only short notice to the airport-based fire department, a police-escorted caravan of heavy equipment made its way onto 18-36 and carved large X's into the runway. By dawn the trucks and backhoes were gone. 'The nature of the actions taken by the city under the cover of darkness indicates that there was not public support for this action,' EAA President Tom Poberezny said. 'Throughout the years, Meigs Field has proven its value, both from an economic standpoint and as well as from a social standpoint. Thousands of kids have enjoyed EAA Young Eagles flights there. Numerous organizations and hundreds of volunteers have worked diligently on behalf of the airport. We will continue to work with the Friends of Meigs Field and others in trying to save the airport. All options will be quickly investigated.' " |
