A Colorado corrections officer who killed a man during a shootout between two biker clubs at a Denver motorcycle show won't face criminal charges because his self-defense claim makes it unlikely a jury would convict him, prosecutors said Tuesday. The decision not to prosecute Derrick Duran, a member of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club made up mostly of police and military, added to the frustration of other biker groups that complain the club's members pick fights, then use their law enforcement connections to avoid punishment. |

The first of two stand your ground measures has been heard in a House committee. Rep. Rick Brattin, R-Harrisonville, presented HB 1744 to the Emerging Issues Committee Monday evening in order, he said, to ensure that people have the right to protect yourself against an imminent threat to your life or others. This isnt about making it to where its the Wild Wild West here in Missouri, he said. We dont have a perfect justice system, no doubt, but I believe in the ability to protect yourselfThe police cant be everywhere all the time. |

Senator Sen. Rand Paul has introduced legislation to stop President Barack Obama from imposing a stealthy gun ban on an estimated 75,000 Social Security beneficiaries. Breitbart News previously reported last July that Obamas gun ban would hit Social Security beneficiaries who are labeled as having mental health issues. That category is so broad that it includes people who need help to handle personal finances. |

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance is knocking first-term Rep. Paul Romrell, R-St. Anthony, for his stance on banning certain guns and magazines. ISAA is a leading proponent of gun rights in Idaho and at the State Capitol. The Alliance said one of Romrells answers to a recent survey, sent to legislative candidates, is disturbing. The ISAA survey asked Romrell and his District 35 Republican primary challenger Karey Hanks, along with all other candidates in contested Statehouse races, to declare if they would support a ban on semi-automatic assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines. |

For the last few months I have reading about the University of Alaska, Senator Pete Kelly ( R- Fairbanks), and a certain bill called SB 174. This has left me scratching my head in wonder. Since when does a legislative body set weapons policies for a university or any other body of education? And in this case, by force of law? From everything I have read or listened to in the media, many students, staff and board members at the UA are far from thrilled by this highhandedness. |

The Wichita Police Department is now training officers to use new, less lethal weapons. A small bean bag now being used in the officers' training may not look like much, but it can fit inside a shotgun shell and deliver powerful impact. Wichita police say the new bean bag guns will help reduce the chance of death, while providing a new level of protection for officers. |

A professor writing under a pseudonym expressed her hesitancy April 18 to write a letter of recommendation for a female student who is pro-gun. The studentSarahis seeking entry into a teacher-credential program, and although her academic abilities are not strong, the professor recognizes her as a class leader with great energy. But the professor does not want to write a recommendation because of Sarahs desire for a concealed carry permit and also because of comments Sarah made about shooting a rifle at a gun range. |

We were at trap practice last night and one of the kids, a freshman, asked if he could shoot a couple of my guns. Sure, I said, thats why I bring them to practice. He put down his Benelli Nova and picked up my BT99. Wow. Wood guns feel really weird, he said. The kid had never shot a gun with a wooden stock. I had never thought about it before, but I was taken aback to realize that its entirely possible to grow up in the 21st century shooting nothing but plastic stocked rifles, shotguns, and handguns. The new generation of shooters thinks plastic is a normal stock material and that wood is weird, outdated and obsolete. It doesnt make me feel old, just sad. |

There is growing concern by gun owners in California about new legislation now moving through the state Capitol. The package of 10 gun control bills, which opponents are calling "Gun-Megeddon," has firearms owners fearful of losing their Second Amendment right to bear arms. "Gun-Megeddon is definitely coming to pass," said Craig DeLuz of the Firearms Policy Coalition. |

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton wants to give big-city politicians and the gun-ban lobby everything they need to sue Americas firearms industry out of business. Clintons campaign website proudly proclaims, Hillary will lead the charge to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Acta law passed by Congress to stop the tidal wave of politically motivated lawsuits that threatened to drive American gunmakers, wholesalers and retailers to bankruptcy, even if they didnt lose a single case in court. |

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says Arkansas had more lost or stolen firearms last year than any state in the country. While thats certainly not good news, its unclear exactly what the numbers mean. The ATF says federally licensed gun dealers in Arkansas reported 197 stolen firearms in 2015, which is comparable to similarly-sized states like Mississippi and Nevada. |

Earlier this month, I wrote about John Hornick and his passion about the potential of 3D printing technology. As a huge proponent of the technology, Hornick is fond of articulating the benefits of its disruptive nature. Yet hes equally quick to point out that inherent in this disruption are difficult issues that need to be resolved in order for 3D printing to become mainstream. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? [...] The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!" Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago (Chapter 1 "Arrest") |
